To think DD shouldn't have been refused entry at the zoo???

DD went to the zoo today (project for her degree) and was asked for ID! They said anyone under 16 needs an adult with them Confused she's 19 in November. She doesn't drive (hence doesn't just carry ID around) and got the coach there and couldn't even get in. Ridiculous.

AIBU?

Have you not read Albert and the lion!

Seriously, could she not have shown her uni stuff?

TowerRavenSeven · 21/09/2017 19:47

She should really carry I'd with her so I'd say you are being a bit U.

TowerRavenSeven · 21/09/2017 19:48

*i.d.

dementedpixie · 21/09/2017 19:48

Student card?

Spooksatthezoo · 21/09/2017 19:48

She only had a folder with her from uni... She doesn't look 15. It's just ridiculous, it really is.

Why should she carry proper ID? I'm assuming this is in the UK.

That said, did she have nothing on her relating to the university eg student union card or library card? Phone with university emails on it?

MiniCooperLover · 21/09/2017 19:50

No, what's ridiculous is a 19 year old student not carrying ID.

Liadain · 21/09/2017 19:52

Clearly she does look young if they refused her. Unless they're turning away customers just for the fun.

Yabu. She should have had ID, and didn't have it. Not the fault of staff just for enforcing a policy.

Spooksatthezoo · 21/09/2017 19:53

It doesn't say to bring ID

EduCated · 21/09/2017 19:53

To be fair, it would never occur to me to have taken ID to the zoo! Clubbing, yes, but the zoo?!

VivienneWestwoodsKnickers · 21/09/2017 19:54

Does she not have a NUS card?

Pastacube · 21/09/2017 19:55

That's bonkers

Aquamarine1029 · 21/09/2017 19:56

Shouldn't a 19 year old young woman always carry some form of ID around with her? I would think so.

ShutUpBaz · 21/09/2017 19:56

She should carry ID at all times especially if she is a young looking 19 year old. Surely a student card is wallet/purse sized so easy to carry around?

Liadain · 21/09/2017 19:56

I had my ID with me everywhere at that age. But it was a Garda age card so that's not a serious problem if you lose it. It just lived in my purse, wasn't a problem.

Then I got older and stopped being carded...I was a bit sad when that happened tbh!

Spooksatthezoo · 21/09/2017 19:57

She doesn't have a regular purse though. Just takes stuff in a bag when needed.

So the zoo didn't have student discount? Why didn't she have her ID with her?

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 21/09/2017 19:58

I'd have ID to buy booze but not to go to the zoo. I'm surprised she needed it.

SouthernComforts · 21/09/2017 19:59

Did she buy a student ticket and arrive without student ID?

scrabbler3 · 21/09/2017 19:59

I can see why children shouldn't be in a zoo unaccompanied but I'm assuming the rule is to stop groups of daft 12 year olds turning up together and messing around. A young woman travelling alone with a folder is hardly going to torment the kangaroos or try to get into the monkey enclosure even if she were 15. I think that some common sense should have been applied here.

SouthernComforts · 21/09/2017 20:00

^^ I've done it myself and kicked myself.

Spooksatthezoo · 21/09/2017 20:00

No, our zoo doesn't offer a student discount.

gamerwidow · 21/09/2017 20:00

Why should she have to carry ID with her. No one has to carry ID in the UK I never have unless at work when I've got my work pass.

ShutUpBaz · 21/09/2017 20:00

Everyone I knew/know of that age carries ID in one form or another. Maybe she should start carrying it as a regular thing?

IncyWincyGrownUp · 21/09/2017 20:00

I'm 37 and have never carried ID, which is lucky as I don't have any.

It's not that odd to those of us who can't drive and don't holiday abroad.
