To think DD shouldn't have been refused entry at the zoo???

DD went to the zoo today (project for her degree) and was asked for ID! They said anyone under 16 needs an adult with them Confused she's 19 in November. She doesn't drive (hence doesn't just carry ID around) and got the coach there and couldn't even get in. Ridiculous.

I'm 22 - apparently look 16-18 dependant on the person assessing me. For this reason I take my ID everywhere because sometimes places make up random rules:
E.g. I have been IDd for :
Red bull
Nail glue
Scissors
Hair dye
And I have been IDd to even just sit in certain pubs, to enter sections of shops.
On the plus side I still get an U19 bus ticket Grin

The fact so many people in their late 30s/early 40s seem to be getting ID'ed is crazy.... The "look 25" seems to be being interpreted as "is there any remote possibility that this person might just be under 25".... This is ridiculous as the whole point of "look 25" is to provide a buffer preventing people who look 18 (the legal age) but who are actually under 18 from being served alcohol etc.

@AlexanderHamilton I've never seen anyone with a lanyard rather than a card for Uni ID ... should we all have to wear our ID everyday? Just chuck it in your bag

YABU. The zoo's responsibility to ensure unsupervised children don't frighten / alarm / kill the animals outweighs a 16-y-o's right of entry without supervision or ID.

GeorgeTheHamster · 22/09/2017 14:56

Most kids take a photo of their ID and keep it on their phone. Obviously they would rather chew off their own arm than go out without their phone. I expect the zoo would have accepted a photo of her passport or student card.

EduCated · 22/09/2017 18:35

If the zoo was conscientious enough to ask for ID, I doubt they'd have accepted a photo of it on a phone.

I've always carried ID. Yes even when I didn't drive.

Why wouldn't you ? It makes life so much easier.
