House smells of Rug Doctor wee! Help!!

There was a funny smell in dds room. Couldn't locate smell so I gutted the room and cleaned it from top to bottom. I bought some Rug Doctor odour eliminator spray which apparently has a "fresh flowery scent" I sprayed it all over dds carpet and ever since her room smells of wee. Really strong old lady wee! (Dd's words) it's been 3 days now and it doesn't seem to be getting any better. Has anyone else used this product and had this happen? How long till this horrific smell goes away?

Never used it but maybe sprinkle bi carb on the floor to get rid of it cheap and effective 😀

thesqueezedlemon · 20/09/2017 20:03

Oh that's a great idea. How long should I leave the bicarb down for?

I'd leave it on as long as you can maybe sprinkle in the morning when dd gets up and hoover before bed Smile

Rug Dr carpet cleaning machine also leaves a wee smell after a couple of days of cleaning the carpet. We did the whole bi carb and vac it up. Took about 5 days for the smell to go once carpet had properly dried out.

Air the room well too

AllToadsLeadToHome · 20/09/2017 22:38

White vinegar in a spray bottle might do it too (with a drop of water added). The smell goes off fairly quickly.

thesqueezedlemon · 21/09/2017 12:18

I'll try bicarb tomorrow as were all out all day. I'll get some white vinegar too just incase.
Where can I buy a large amount of bicarb cheaply as it's quite a big room?

Weird. We have this with one particular brand of loo cleaner too - it's actually a good cleaner but I never use it before people come round!

Bicarb's a good idea but also you need to get air flowing through the room. Windows and door open as much as you can. Could she sleep elsewhere while you leave the windows open all night?

thesqueezedlemon · 21/09/2017 12:34

The window has been open for the last 4 days to no avail. Luckily she's always liked the window being open. I dread to think what the smell would be like had the window been closed all this time.
It's a little cooler today so may put her in with dd2 tonight and get the bicarb down as early as possible. Just had a look and asda/Sainsbury's do a small pot for 90p so I may have to buy about 4 of them. Ugh I really wish I hadn't bothered. The smell before was no where near as bad as this!

Try a hardware store for large quantities of bicarb.

Imnotaslimjim · 21/09/2017 13:08

Wilkos do a 500g box for £1.50, that should be plenty.

thesqueezedlemon · 21/09/2017 16:36

Thanks for the advice ladies. These were right next to eachother on the shelf so I got both. It didn't quite do the whole room, but almost. So I used the vinegar in the places that were missed.
I used a sweeping brush to lightly brush the soda into the carpet. Hope that was the right thing to do. It seemed it to me. Anyway fingers crossed it works!!

I can still smell the chemical wee! But now I can also smell vinegar. I feel like I'm making the problem worse 😔

The bi carb should work. I used it to get rid of a wee smell.

Craftylittlething · 21/09/2017 18:42

I had my carpet professionally cleaned a few weeks back and it smelled of cat pee, we don't have a cat! It was awful but only lasted around five or six days. Windows open, lots of vaccuming and lots of incense in my house though it may not work in your dds room.

piknmixer · 21/09/2017 19:10

That Rug Doctor Odour Eliminator is awful - it stinks.

I bought some to freshen up the curtains and before using it I sprayed a coat as it was a bit musty. After about an hour of wearing it, it developed the most awful smell, like dog wee.

I was gagging, it was so bad. Hung the coat out overnight and it still stank.

Luckily I hadn't used it on the sofas or curtains. I had to wash the coat.

If you read reviews of it people have had to throw out carpets and rugs as they couldn't get the smell out Sad

thesqueezedlemon · 21/09/2017 19:38

The carpets only a year old. If it's ruined they can bloody well pay for a new one! Already wasted £4 on a bottle of piss! Aergggh!!! I've just gone a bit mad with the vinegar. Opened the window as wide as it will go and closed the door. Hopefully it will smell better in the morning.

GrowThroughWhatYouGoThrough · 21/09/2017 20:06

Make sure it's all dry before you hoover! Or you'll be paying for a new one of them 🙈

thesqueezedlemon · 22/09/2017 18:50

All smells are gone! I cannot put into words how relieved I am! Thanks everyone for your advice Grin
