Mine has to be pacific instead of specific

And, more in line with thread and with delicious irony, when people mispronounce 'mis/pronunciation'.

Jedbartletforpresident · 20/09/2017 19:26

Haitch gives me the rage. When my DTs started saying it last year because their teacher did it I might have had some very choice words to say about that teacher Blush

Adding Rs where they don't belong - I know, I know it's an accent thing but it drives me nuts.

My biggest bugbear however isn't even a mispronunciation - it's just a plain old made up word - my MIL says "somewhen" - as in if she calls and you're not free to talk she'll say "I'll talk to you somewhen else"

Just WTF?!

donquixotedelamancha · 20/09/2017 19:26

Also, while I'm here:

People who say eXpresso should be denied the vote. Possibly sterilised just in case.

theymademejoin · 20/09/2017 19:26

Drawer instead of draw (and similar). There is no r in the word.

halfmoonbay · 20/09/2017 19:27

Buying a new Tanktini for holiday👙

theymademejoin · 20/09/2017 19:28

And aitch instead of haitch.

CosyFires · 20/09/2017 19:28

It's Llandudno! Not candudno or chandudno!

EamonnWright · 20/09/2017 19:28

I say Haitch. Hotel instead of 'Otel.

ProfessorCat · 20/09/2017 19:32

Cosyfires

I'm not sure why but I haven't met an English person yet who can pronounce the double L properly. Sure, they think they're doing it right, but they're not.

Everything is Cl. Clandudno, Clanederyn. It's not hard.

mummyofmoomoos · 20/09/2017 19:33

Fil-um for film
Sumbarine for submarine
Chimbley for chimney
Fink for think
Pompadom for popadom
Botato for potato
Fren for friend and my all time pet hate- innit!!!

Treysanatomy · 20/09/2017 19:36

Defiantly is usually an autocorrect that happens when people try to spell definitely as 'definately'.

FinnegansCake · 20/09/2017 19:39

tew-meric for turmeric

adver-TISE-ment for ad-VER-tiss-ment

raaz-bree for raspberry

Gownagain · 20/09/2017 19:39

I say haitch, and I'm a teacher 😜 - It's regional.

Jasmin82 · 20/09/2017 19:40

My mother once said "That Posh Spice looks emancipated."
It didn't matter what me and Dad said, she was adamant that emaciated was pronounced "emancipated".

LivingInMidnight · 20/09/2017 19:40

I'm sitting here going "sor, saw" feeling like when I was a kid and my friends complained that I pronounced one and won the same when they should be different. I'm still baffled about that.

Lucisky · 20/09/2017 19:41

Plump 82, I'm from the south east where it's pronounced gah raage with a long a, rather than gah ridge. It's very difficult writing pronunciation, I don't think I could compile a dictionary!

Plump82 · 20/09/2017 19:44

Ah really!!! I dont think ive heard it said that way. Im from Glasgow and theres a nightclub called The Garage. I dont think itd ever be pronounced anything but garridge!

creampie · 20/09/2017 19:44

There's a heart radio advert at the moment for nursing training. The women says "I love it as I get to try so many different specialities".

It's SPECIALTIES you annoying bint!! Specialities are what you get in a restaurant!! 😡😡😡

{and breathe...}

Sayyouwill · 20/09/2017 19:44

I say Fil-um but I think that is a dialect thing.
It also irks me when people say 'Buk' instead of book. That's definitely just a northern thing however. Can tell when someone hasn't been brought up in Newcastle if they say 'cukbuk' instead of 'cookbook' and actually make the 'oo' noise

OP posts:
Sayyouwill · 20/09/2017 19:47

Also definitely not gar-raage up here, it's garridge

shouldaknownbetter · 20/09/2017 19:48

It took me years to accept that St Pancras station was not St Pancreas station, like the body part. I still say St Pancreas sometimes (blushes) as that's what it sounds like inside my head still.

Manctart · 20/09/2017 19:49

Treysanatomy I hadn't thought of that. Will have to let them off then!

Treysanatomy · 20/09/2017 19:55

Manctart no need to let them off - it's their own fault for spelling it incorrectly!

Gran22 · 20/09/2017 19:59

Slither instead of sliver
Brought - its bought
Prostrate/prostate
Mute point really does my head in, it's moot!

ToEarlyForDecorations · 20/09/2017 20:00

All of those listed as well as:

ung-yun when they mean onion

sang-wich when they mean sandwich
