Dutch1e · 20/09/2017 20:44

Should of instead of should have

This, eleventy billionty times

Crowdo · 20/09/2017 20:44

I knew someone once who said I-O-Qua-Shush instead of loquacious.

RainbowPastel · 20/09/2017 20:47

Not getting the sor thing to me sor saw and sore all sound the same.

Ttbb · 20/09/2017 20:48

My DH insists on calling quinoa quin-o-a. Nothing wrong with it per se except I call it keen-wah and always get a little bit confused (I don't write it down much) before it dawns on me. I'm starting to get used to it though. Oh and Paella-how the he'll do you even pronounce that? Pa-yaya sounds a bit conceited (or like you have only just joined the party ten years too late). Pie-Ella is just wrong on so many levels. Pi-yella is my natural inclination but I think that may just be underlying Eastern European mispronounciation.

Triskaidekaphilia · 20/09/2017 20:56

Delia Smith pronouncing balsamic as 'ber-saul-mic'- the letters aren't even in that order! Maybe she misread it as basalmic?

Agree with most of the above esp. 'pacific' and 'expresso'. Also adults who use 'lickle' in seriousness, like when I heard someone mentioning the game 'little big planet' to another adult.

Poshjock · 20/09/2017 20:58

In Scotland we shorten vowels which does sometimes sound like dropping them. cukbuk (cookbook), garrridge, buts (boots) are all regional pronunciations. We also lengthen R and shorten T!

My OH says pedistool instead of pedestal as it "to put some on a ..." It drives me bonkers!

Iamneverfull · 20/09/2017 20:58

Any mis pronaciation of touche eclat (I work next to a tap counter and i cant help it!) The worst being touche clit.. seriously?! That happens a lot!

NotInMyBackYard1 · 20/09/2017 20:58

The absolute worst has got to be 'memay' for meme - cringe!!!

Iamneverfull · 20/09/2017 20:58

Ysl not tap

Hunkle · 20/09/2017 21:00

Today in Sainsburys. 2 women discussing a Gill-it. (Gilet)

Im.100% sure its Gee-lait?

Maybe Im wrong?

Gartenzwerg · 20/09/2017 21:00

Chorizo as “Cho-ritz-oh”. No !!!

nonamehere · 20/09/2017 21:02

creampie I'm not sure if you're in the UK, but 'specialty' is the US version of the English 'speciality' which is used to mean both particular skills and particular items on a menu. The difference isn't what's being described as special - it's English v US.

easterholidays · 20/09/2017 21:02

Another belated plea as to how "aromatherapy" should be pronounced if not "arrow-mer-therapy"!

And creampie I think in that ad the word they want is actually "specialisms", isn't it? Maybe the people in adland think that sounds too complex Wink

easterholidays · 20/09/2017 21:04

Ha sorry, cross-post with noname.

nonamehere · 20/09/2017 21:07

Ha yes easter - I think you're right.

claraschu · 20/09/2017 21:07

I hate "sikth* instead of "sixth" but few people agree with me.

Gartenzwerg · 20/09/2017 21:09

Easterholidays I think the aromatherapy issue is that he correct pronunciation is “ah-row-mah-therapy” with the stress on the “row” syllable rather than just “arrow”

Sallystyle · 20/09/2017 21:13

Two of my children say they can't 're-bothered' instead of be bothered.

cathy87 · 20/09/2017 21:16

Haitch is not a mispronunciation!

anotherprosecco · 20/09/2017 21:17

I have known my OH for 48 years, and he has always said lickle - he is from Manchester.....

deadringer · 20/09/2017 21:21

Ulster instead of ulcer, might be an Irish thing though.

EsmeGNU · 20/09/2017 21:22

I used to work with a teacher who pronounces coin koi-oi-n......... twitches

I'm so glad other people say "sangwich" my DH does and it drive me mental. I thought it was just him. He also "washes" his teeth and regularly suggest I "take over" slower cars while driving. He is a peculiar one though.

MaisieDotes · 20/09/2017 21:22

I agree with you clara - I just came to post "sisth" Angry

Also "fith" for "fifth".

easterholidays · 20/09/2017 21:25

Two of my children say they can't 're-bothered' instead of be bothered

If your children are children (and not, say, in their mid-thirties) then this is adorable Smile

I think I can't "hear" the difference between the two versions of "aromatherapy". Which means I probably say it wrong Blush

shockthemonkey · 20/09/2017 21:26

Not annoying but funny: "advocado", extra comical because the offender is a lawyer
