Mother nature's wrath

Jlaw was ridiculed for saying hurricanes and earthquake are mother nature's wrath against how messed up the world is. But it's so rare for a cat 5 to make landfall, between 1962 - 2016 only two made landfall and now we have two within a few weeks. Plus earthquakes and floods.

Aibu to think she might be on to something?

Nature - Mother or not - will win in the end anyway once the next ice age comes. We're at the end of the interglacial period now so living on borrowed time. People will really be crying into their coffee once this happens.

This short video on Youtube is - if genuinely representative of the facts - rather worrying. No hurricanes west of the USA before about 1950, then suddenly, quite a lot of them.

Sorry forgot the link!

Isn't 100 years basically nothing in the grand scheme of the world?

Ok maybe it's not mother nature, but something does feel very off and wrong with the world right now Sad

I'm not sure how complete our data is pre 1960 anyway to be honest lego - there's bugger all out there, so no witness statements. Until we started watching the globe with satellites we surely missed an awful lot of events.

The climate is changing, it's always changing and that is partly a natural occurrence and partly down to man. Some hurricane seasons are more active than others.

68% isn't great in my book

68 is pretty good, anyway the RT summary is "Critic Consensus: There's no denying that mother! is the thought-provoking product of a singularly ambitious artistic vision, though it may be too unwieldy for mainstream tastes"

It's just not a very mainstream movie.

Yes, I agree, the world does feel very off and wrong in 2017. Nature is not determined by people's feelings, however.

And can I take this moment in this thread to address all the people that like to whinge about British weather (myself included Blush) that we should consider ourselves very lucky that we don't experience in our country life changing extremities in weather that nature can cause

...(actually just before posting this, I remembered we do get quite a lot of flooding in this country that can cause devastation to people's homes and livelihoods)

OfaFrenchmind2 · 20/09/2017 22:14

Jennifer Lawrence is a lovely, clever person and actress. That said, could she and you please explain how climate change is influencing earthquakes?

Also, mothet Earth, while often stupendous and bountiful, is also sometimes a cunt, and did not wait for man made climate changes to regularly (on a geological timeline) dump on her inhabitants. So maybe we could cool down the sensationalism?
