My waters have just gone - AIBU to try and go back to sleep?!

DC2 is due today. I woke up at 00.55, felt a tiny pop before I felt a trickle of fluid. Waddled to the bathroom, got myself cleaned up, laid bed mats and towel on bed before getting back in. By 1.30 I was back in the bathroom changing pad etc from trickle no 2.

Absolutely no contractions so far. AIBU to try to go back to sleep and wait to call hospital tomorrow morning?? With DD1 my waters didn't go until I'd already got to the hospital

Can you go for a nice walk around the hospital? I couldn't believe it when they suggested I do that with dc1 but it worked.

LentilBaby · 20/09/2017 22:06

Ahhh......bless you OP! Keep strong and keep focussed!! You can do this 👏🏼🌷💐🌸🌺🌻

A1Sharon · 20/09/2017 22:06

OP I'm not a midwife (nurse though) and obv you need to make informed decision s and listen to staff.
But with my 3rd DC I had pessaries to induce for 2-3 days. Absolutely nada.
I was so hacked off! Stressed and fed up.
I discharged myself. Went home and had a gorgeous bath, relaxed on my bed-and pop waters went naturally, and baby born (back at hosp!) 2 hours later.
I just needed to get home to relax.
Discuss with the staff if you could go home tonight and come back in tomorrow for monitoring?
Really feel for you.

Tinks15 · 20/09/2017 22:08

Thinking of you OP - you can do this!! Sending you a big hug. Flowers

WitchDancer · 20/09/2017 22:10

I hope things get moving for you soon. Maybe being in the wrong place has set you back a bit and it will all start again when you're able to relax a bit.

MytToeHurtsBetty · 20/09/2017 22:12

Hope things ramp up a bit for you overnight and you have a brand new squish to squish in the morning@

My DH and mum are here with me at the moment. I'm going to try and get some sleep now my obs have been done.

Too tired to keep walking or standing right now. I've had about 1 hrs sleep since 7am yesterday.

Doubtful that they're even going to do anything at 1am / early tomorrow as apparently there is nowhere to put me. Hospital is so busy they have had to call in the community midwives. If they are that busy why did they not send me home at 12 after I'd been examined and baby monitored for a bit?? It's not like they've been doing anything with me. Obs have been taken twice and they had to be asked to do that.

Just spoken to midwife on night shift. She's advised that if baby delivers more than 24hrs after waters have gone we have to stay in for at least 12 hours for observation.

I always say this on induction threads but can you get hold of an electric breast pump?

It really does work to strengthen contractions. Good luck! Flowers

ColdFeetWarmHeart · 20/09/2017 22:26

I have one at home. I doubt I'll be able to get one here. Can't seem to find any staff!!

With my first, my waters broke, or rather, trickled, but no contractions. They told me to come in and that if there were no contractions naturally by a certain time they'd have to induce. Otherwise there is a risk of infection to the baby.

When DD was born they had to give her penicillin against Strep B.

My advice is stay in hospital. I hated being induced but it's a means to a - very worthwhile! - end. Hope you get to cuddle your newborn very soon.

BlueSuffragette · 20/09/2017 22:30

Good luck. Sending you lots of hugs and best wishes.

DrHarleenFrancesQuinzel · 20/09/2017 22:36

My waters broke with DD2 before labour. I spent the day (after having a check up at the hospital) sat with towels round me like a nappy.

She was born 28 hours after my waters broke so we had to stay in.

She will be 6 on Friday so shares a birthday with your little girl.

Hope baby comes soon

seafoodeatit · 20/09/2017 22:36

Good luck! I hope you're able to get some much needed rest tonight.

Newoneforthis · 20/09/2017 22:37

Good luck OP! Flowers

My LO was given antibiotics as she was delivered more than 24 hours after waters broke.

ILoveMyCatss · 20/09/2017 22:49

Hope your baby is here soon and you can get home!! Thinking of you Flowers

SprogletsMum · 20/09/2017 23:06

Hopefully you're well on your way to having your baby now op but if they do if have to kick start you with the drip it's not all bad.
My 4th dc had loads of meconium in his waters and labour hadn't started so they made me have the drip. I was dreading it but actually I chilled out on the bed for about 3 or 4 hours while they kept turning the drip up and up. No contractions at all then boom 20 minutes of contractions and he flew out across the bed into the midwives arms.

Fitzsimmons · 20/09/2017 23:15

Good luck OP. Hope you get some rest tonight.

kaykay72 · 20/09/2017 23:31

Good Luck OP x

If you're feeling restless, try going up and down stairs. Ex midwife - there's something about the motion of walking on the stairs that brings the head down onto the cervix and helps move things along x

HoorayForBoobies · 20/09/2017 23:37

Thinking of you! I loved meeting my babies for the first time. So precious.

StarlitTrees · 20/09/2017 23:50

Thinking of you. Frustrating but exciting times.
As tough as it is now, just think you WILL soon be holding your little baby!
You're doing great!

BertieBotts · 21/09/2017 00:13

I had a baby early October (Nine years ago now...) and they had no beds then either. They put me on antenatal after I had him and rather hurriedly got me to agree to a Domino (Domiciliary in n out, ie, they chuck you out ASAP!) - DS was born at 7.35 Sunday morning and I was home by 4pm. Very very surreal considering I'd only gone in there at about 10 on Saturday night after labouring since the Friday morning at home. I did totally avoid any manic Bounty ladies though. :)

allegretto · 21/09/2017 05:32

How are you? Hope things are progressing well.

ColdFeetWarmHeart · 21/09/2017 06:09

I had a baby girl at 2.26 this morning. I shall take a picture of her squishyness for you all tomorrow (daddy has already discovered that she doesn't appreciate the flash!!)

I am super super tired. Have slept about 1hr in the past 48!! Will update more late zzzzzzzzzzzz
