To ask you all what I should have for dinner? What are you having?

I've been skint for ages and had a range of boring, shit choices for dinner (if any) but things are looking up money wise (god bless student loans and new jobs).

Big Ocado shop came today (£30 off voucher so feeling very posh - I'm an Aldi gal) and now I'm spoilt for choice!

I have

Pizza express American hot/ sloppy Giuseppe pizza

Potatoes

Oven chips

Steak burgers (and buns, onions, burger cheese etc)

Mince

Part baked baguettes

Rump steak

Is it called antipasti? Salami, chorizo etc in a pack

Cheddar cheese

Goats cheese

Parmesan

Fresh pasta

Carrots

Sweetcorn

Cous cous, rice, noodles, bacon, yogurt, cream, delicious president butter, stock, garlic, herbs and spices, Nando's sauce, cream, eggs etc etc

Etc.

What should I have for dinner?!

I'm swaying towards baguette, antipasti, cheese, grapes, crisps etc but had this for lunch (was delish though)

Or shall I cook myself a lovely fat burger and chips?

Or pizza?

Or go the whole hog and cook steak/ spag Bol? Spag Bol takes too long if you're cooking a good one doesn't it, and I'm starving 🐷 carbonara?

What's the verdict? I want something really easy and quick to cook. But unbelievably yummy. Not fussed about calories today or any day if truth be told. Too chuffed at having a full fridge for the first time in forever Grin

Started on some new antidepressants since leaving abusive exP and can really feel them working and am trying to feel gratitude in little moments so after DD goes to bed I'm going to scoff and drink wine and watch TV/ read my new library book and feel bloody grateful for it all Grin have lovely chocolate and sweeties for after of course!

Feel free to tell me what you're having/ had for dinner for future inspo!

It all sounds delicious - lucky you! I'm really glad you sound as if you're in a good place and taking a moment to feel luxurious. In our house we would always go for the cheeses/bread/salami picky-picky option (which inevitably goes on all evening and means you end up with MASSES of calories!), so I feel you can't go wrong with that.

HOWEVER, if you've already had that once today I'd be inclined towards the steak and chips. Quick, simple, satisfying and has an air of celebration. Go for that!

This evening, we're having homemade keema curry with rice and mini samosas/pakoras/bhajis. Have a lovely evening! PS what exactly are the chocolate and sweeties for pud?

BreakfastAtStephanies · 19/09/2017 19:03

We're having spaghetti carbonara here with salad and olives.

I want your anti-pasti pack of salamis and such, though. Coveting that, it'd go nicely with our dinner.

From your lovely food shop I'd probably do a burger or something with the goat's cheese ( goat cheese risotto ?) . Needs to be done and out of the way before GBBO and Dr. Foster both on TV tonight.

Well done on leaving the ex, hope your life continues to improve.

elephantoverthehill · 19/09/2017 19:08

I am debating between pesto pasta with crispy bacon and courgette or baked cambert.

CottonEyedJoe · 19/09/2017 19:16

I am swaying towards steak and chips. I make the most unbelievable sauce with butter, flour, red wine, onions, beef stock and juices 😋

Goats cheese risotto sounds so yummy too! I've never thought about cooking something like that.

I have a box of Lindt chocolates. And a bar of green and blacks almond. Pick and mix from this amazing sweet shop in town. Grin

Your dinners both sound delicious. You can have my antipasti, I overdid it at lunch to tell you the truth Blush

And I love curry. I've never attempted making a real one. Maybe next week!

And thanks for all the kind comments. I've felt so depressed and so anxious for so long that I forgot what it was like to feel content. Been through the ropes this past couple of months with the abuse increasing, court cases, money worries, job worries, uni worries, massive mental health difficulties etc.

But my DD is a little treasure, just happily skipped off to bed. My cats are merrily stoned on the catnip I bought them to convince them to go into their carrier for the vets. I have a lovely home and my tenancy's just been renewed. Nice enough job. Looking forward to going back to uni next week after a terrible year grade wise last year. I'm convinced I can bring it back this year now my mental health's improved. Have a little leeway to do some internet shopping for the home/ DD tonight (which I love to do!) Driving lessons going well. Off to see my lovely family tomorrow. My best friends managed to fall pregnant after some difficulties.

Life is good Grin first time I've been able to say/ feel that in such a long time.

Now I just need to decide what to have for dinner!

Oh I was tempted to get Camembert! I'm shit at cooking it though Blush

And pesto pasta with bacon is a fave of mine - lots of sweetcorn and grated cheese too!

Yes I definitely have to be done in time for doctor foster Grin

I'd go steak baguette with slow cooked onions.

We had pork meatloaf with spaghetti sauce - a Jamie recipe and a big fave with the fam. Also made a lemon poppyseed ring cake - and it didn't stick to the ring for the first time ever! [smug]

Millybingbong · 19/09/2017 19:28

Lovely thread.

I'm feeling exceptionally greedy and considering making a coffee cake for pudding.

Pasta and leftovers for supper.

Keepingupwiththejonesys · 19/09/2017 19:33

Ooh, I'd do a nice burger with all the extras, onions, mushrooms and allllll the cheese.

I had chicken curry, jacket spud and salad...weigh day eve

elephantoverthehill · 19/09/2017 19:33

Cotton I've gone for the pasta option tonight. I'm going to save the camembert for Friday, or may be I'll get some steak for Friday. Google Nigel Slater's baked camembert recipe, only I drizzle honey on top rather than wine. It's lovely to hear a positive outcome. Enjoy the time with your family.

PomonaPalace · 19/09/2017 19:42

I am ill with a horrible virus and bribed my 12yo to make me toast and marmite but your shopping sounds AMAZING, OP. I would go for the steak and chips and your nice sauce.

BreakfastAtStephanies · 19/09/2017 19:43

I bought a paella pan from Lidl the other week, mainly for DH to cook paella in. It's a very large flat skillet.

Turns out there is almost nothing you can't cook in it. I find myself going all Zen gravel-garden-raking with chopped onions, stirring them about over a large area. It's quite restful. I may retire my wok and frying pan.

oldlaundbooth · 19/09/2017 19:46

I don't know what to tell you but I liked reading your posts Grin

EamonnWright · 19/09/2017 19:47

Chicken chips salad and 4 rounds of white bread and butter.

WritingHome · 19/09/2017 19:51

Your shopping sounds incredible! I would have a steak baguette with oven chips!

We are having sticky lime, paprika and honey glazed chicken beasts with rice and greens. It is tastier then it sounds and healthy too after Sunday's blow out where having discovered Aldi's specially select crinkle cut fries I had genius for lunch AND dinner (with a fried egg!)

Enjoy it whatever you decide. It's lovely to read a nice thread like this...

quercuscircus · 19/09/2017 19:52

its lovely to read your posts and hear how your life is on the up :) made me feel all warm and fuzzy! :)

I'd go with steak burgers with all the trimmings. Yum! I'd love big fat burger with blue cheese and bacon!

I had a chicken sandwich earlier and am still hungry but no energy tonight so might have cheese on toast!

Enjoy OP :)

ShowMePotatoSalad · 19/09/2017 19:54

I've recently swapped to Ocado and so long as I meal plan carefully my weekly shop is coming out cheaper or the same price as before. I love the service, I am getting free deliveries at the moment due to a new customer offer, and I get 5p refund for every carrier bag I give back at the next delivery. I would do a burger and chips tonight if I were you. Yum Smile

ShowMePotatoSalad · 19/09/2017 19:56

Eww I sounded like an advert then. I feel like I've been waiting forever for Ocado to start delivering round my way so I've gone a bit evangelical!

CottonEyedJoe · 19/09/2017 20:24

Thanks everyone. I had steak and chips with carrot and swede mash and sweetcorn. Tasted unbelievable - much better than it looks Blush

Hope all your dinners were delicious, and you're enjoying your evenings. I certainly am Grin you're all lovely!

To ask you all what I should have for dinner? What are you having?
OP posts:
elephantoverthehill · 19/09/2017 20:43

Yes why didn't you smear the mash on the plate and stack the chips? Maybe you should have served it on a trowel. No imagination! And where are the micro herbs FFS! Grin
It looks like a very tasty meal to me.

HaudYerWheeshtBawbag · 19/09/2017 20:50

I had bacon and brie baguette with homemade red onion chutney, I crisped the part baked bagutte in the oven with garlic butter, was delicious.

Ds and dh has gammon with fried egg/garlic butter, brocolli, leak and cauliflower cheese bake.

Urubu · 19/09/2017 20:53

I am having Waitrose cherry pie with wipping cream for dinner. That's it. This is how good it is.

WritingHome · 20/09/2017 15:49

Looks delicious! What are you having tonight?
We're having BBC Good Food 'healthy egg & chips' which is an old Favourite of ours. You par boil some cubed potato, drizzle with a small bit of oil and roast for about 20 mins then add sliced mushroom, chopped smoked bacon and oregano to thud tray and roast for another 15 mins till the bacon is crisping up, make 4 wells in the mix, crack an egg into each and bake for about 6mins or until the eggs are cooked to your liking. Serve with baked beans!
It's easy and delicious

WritingHome · 20/09/2017 15:50

Oops - forgot that you add a diced red onion at the same time as he mushrooms and bacon

JenNtonic · 20/09/2017 16:24
