To ask how long it been since you've used public transport?

After a thread on here over change from bus fares got very heated, a couple of people said they'd not used buses (and possibly other forms of public transport) for over 10 years.

I find it fairly incredible that you can go so long without going on a bus or use other forms - okay I get that it may be months if you commute by car/bike or walk, but surely most people will make an occasional trip by bus or train across the course of a year for a night out or on a day trip or whatever?

I use a train maybe three times a year, to go to exhibitions or shows. I haven't been on a bus in over 25 years, I hate them.

I use the bus every day

Tilapia · 20/09/2017 13:57

I drive to work and we live quite rurally so drive to most other places too. Occasionally get the train into the city (say three times a year) but haven't been on a bus for years.

Sunday - we used buses in London.

I get around by walking, running, car, bus, overground, train, tube.

I use it all - whatever best suite.

The new 1 hour transfer window on London buses is fantastic and we make more use of buses now because of it. Thanks Sadiq!

When I met DP my this was my day:

Bus into town - 25 minutes
Bus to next town -30-45 minutes
Bus from town to Work - 20 minutes

Repeat on the way home.

Thankfully I can now drive.

I always wonder why there is such stigma about traveling by bus, there's that Thatcher quote (although I suspect it is apocryphal) about a man who finds himself on a bus after the age of 30 can consider himself a failure. I'm over 30 and use buses pretty regularly and on the route I use they're clean, quiet newish hybrid buses with free wi-fi. Far better appointed than my car.

10+ years for a bus - about a year for the train/tube.

HazelBite · 20/09/2017 18:38

I used the bus today.
I find driving stressful and much prefer to use public transport.

Was it buses or jungle canyon rope bridges?

I always use public transport, daily! I live Newcastle so the metro is ridiculously handy and most of the time very reliable!busses I use too but not as often as less room for the buggy and takes twice as long! I don't drive though, will be re-starting lessons on maternity leave as having two children I think it'll be easier to drive! DH never uses public transport, even tho it would be easier for him to get to work!

TansyVioletta · 24/09/2017 12:16

Thatcher probably made that comment before people started getting more environmentally aware.

Wanderlust1984 · 24/09/2017 12:21

I don't use public transport locally (rural area and public transport is naff), but usually get the train from nearest city if we're going away for the weekend, also always use it when in London. I get a hire car through work if I'm away on business. Would love to have better public transport links locally!

Wanderlust1984 · 24/09/2017 12:23

I'm lying! Just remembered I use the bus service at work of it's raining. I work on a very large site which you can't easily get your car onto so I quiet often use that rather than have to walk for miles round the site

Scoleah · 24/09/2017 12:31

Took the train to London for a hospital appointment in May and 6 months before that in the November.

Don’t think I’d been on any public transport in at least 5 years before that!
