To think cats can't "stand"?!

NC as I will show this to DH to vindicate my rightness Grin

I just asked DH where the cat was - "she's standing at the front gate" apparently Hmm

Is it just me, or can cats not actually stand? Only people with two legs can stand, surely. Cats can't stand. DH is clearly BU.

What would we say instead of standing, though?

Don't let me down MNers. Cats can't stand. Or can they?

Could you... use name changing to start a thread and then post lots of replies which agree with you and then show that to DH?

By the way I would normally say a cat can stand (on 2,3 or 4 legs) but I don't like DH being right so I don't think cats do stand. I think they lurk!

Jesus.

Are you high OP?

shouldwestayorshouldwego · 19/09/2017 21:58

They never just stand there still on all 4s! They do if you put a harness on them. Subverts the natural order if a human tries to be in charge of where a cat walks. They just freeze!

One of my D-Cats used to stand on 2 legs, merekat style, but not in last few yrs. I wonder why not any more?

TizzyDongue · 19/09/2017 22:20

Well cats ARE the superior species!! Lol x

thebewilderness · 23/09/2017 18:49

Cats are capable of many things. They lurk and they leap, they loaf and they sleep, they waggle they butt when they chatter they teeth. It is possible that they may stand on all four paws at once, though I have never witnessed cat do such a mundane thing as stand down when they could be standing up. Where is the evil plan? Where the nefarious plot?
OP is correct. Cats do not just stand at the gate. If a gate is involved the cat must be lurking.

1NeedPampering · 23/09/2017 19:40

Cats never just stand. They always pose🐾

ratspeaker · 23/09/2017 20:18

Of course cats don't stand. They hover millimeters above the ground. They adjust gravity to suit.
How else would a small fluffy object feel so heavy on your vital organs in the middle of the night?
When they knock stuff off the shelves or bedside cabinet its them calculating how much to increase the mass of the planet.

SabineUndine · 23/09/2017 20:52

My cat mostly lies about waiting for his next meal.

Sarahrellyboo1987 · 24/09/2017 16:05

Erm....yeah, cats definitely stand!

Toddlerteaplease · 24/09/2017 17:53

Rats. Your comment made me laugh out loud. Presumably that's also why one of mine walks round the house sounding like a heard of elephants, while her sister is quieter.
