To take a photo of bank balance

madwifenewlife · 18/09/2017 13:39

We have sold our house, the one we are buying is not ready for another 2/3 weeks, so staying with family for a few weeks.

The equity from our house goes into my account on Friday, and I feel like a kid at Christmas! Can not wait till Friday to take a photo of my bank balance, not to show anyone but it's the biggest amount I've had in it so far.
It won't be in there long as we using it for the new house. My bank will wonder what on earth ha!

Am I silly to be so excited for Friday?!

nope, it's less exciting though when it all starts disappearing though!

SnowiestMountain · 18/09/2017 13:42

Not at all, I remember taking a picture of ours when we were moving, it was huge, for 5 minutes!

IHeartDodo · 18/09/2017 13:43

Haha just wait til it goes out again, it's terrifying!
When I bought my house and transferred everything from my account, I think I checked the account number 10 times!

madwifenewlife · 18/09/2017 13:44

Yes 70% of it is a deposit so definitely less exciting that day. Although hopefully new house keys will be as excitingGrin

When we got our mortgage I took a picture of the account once it was set up and had it's nil balance. It didn't stay that way for long...

madwifenewlife · 18/09/2017 13:52

I'm glad I'm not the only one then. My friend said I was silly to take a picture of it. But I've never had that amount before in my account. So I'm super excited to see it. Maybe il frame it and hang it in the new house haha! (Joke)

We moved house when I was 11, my DF gave the cheque from mortgage company to hold, saying it would be the biggest amount of money I would ever hold. The cheque was for two thousand pounds.

BMW6 · 18/09/2017 13:58

Not silly at all! I wish I'd done it when my pension lump sum was paid into my account!

The80sweregreat · 18/09/2017 13:58

It is a lovely feeling , for the days that its just sat there. Then it all disappears all at once.
Such is life eh? ( ponders people whose bank balance is like that, or much more, every single day. Must be nice)

cjt110 · 18/09/2017 14:03

I remember when we picked up a bankers draft for approx 39k. It was like we were holding a sheet of gold!!

ineedamoreadultieradult · 18/09/2017 14:05

Not unreasonable at all. If the new balance is going to come as a huge suprise to your bank it might be best to let them know. I had similar with a very large amount deposited then withdrawn within a few weeks and the bank started to investigate me for money laundering!

madwifenewlife · 18/09/2017 14:06

I remember my grandad doing that with a cheque once when I was little, bless him lol.

Yes very nice for a few weeks i will feel like a rich woman until it's gone with a poof again. To think some people always have these amounts, Indeed what a life. Mine will be bank to - in no time I'm sure Sad

madwifenewlife · 18/09/2017 14:09

Yes I phoned my bank and they have made a note of it, she said big amounts are usually ok if they go in, it's when they get paid out there can be problems. Funny that.

But yes it will mostly be going out again lol

inchyrablue · 18/09/2017 14:09

I wish I'd taken a photo of the bank teller's face when I popped in to pay in some really small cheques the day our house money landed. Shock The usual "is there anything else I can help you with MsBlue" was a little more insistent that normal. Bless him, he backed off as soon as I explained.

RaspberryMousse · 18/09/2017 14:10

I took a photo when my bank account had our house deposit in after I'd transferred it from our savings account before sending to the solicitors. Don't think I'll ever have that much money in there again! Grin

AnnieAnoniMouse · 18/09/2017 14:11

Nah, it's not silly, it's just a bit of fun. It's a photo or screen shot FGS I take them for FAR less interesting things, your friend is being a joyless knob!

petitdonkey · 18/09/2017 14:13

Do it!! As a side note, a friend of mine recently sent a screenshot of her balance to our group chat (she had booked an event for us all)... I think she only intended to send us her account number and sort code but I was Shock as it included her balance which was ££££!!

madwifenewlife · 18/09/2017 14:14

Yes il be getting upgrade account letters and savings account advice I bet. For a few weeks il look like a great customer to have.

Almost wish I was paying a cheque in, instead of a transfer to hold it and see their face. Although think I'd be terrified carrying it to the bank.

BarbaraofSevillle · 18/09/2017 14:15

Go to the cash machine and get a balance statement or two. Leave one in the slot for the next person to go goggle eyed at.

madwifenewlife · 18/09/2017 14:16

Haha I love looking at people's slips when they forget them in the machine Blush

OP posts:
msannabella · 18/09/2017 14:18

barbara I did that when I sold my house. Wish I'd seen the next persons face! I printed one to keep as well and was most annoyed when dh threw all my old receipts away and that was in there too. Angry

madwifenewlife · 18/09/2017 14:19

Not sure why my friend was so annoyed about it, I didn't tell her the amount or anything. I think it will be a nice keep sake to remind us how well we did in the future, and just because it's a lot of money I want to remember it. Maybe il accidentally leave a slip in my jacket pocket she's asked to borrow it Saturday lol!

Your friend is a miserable git, it's just a bit of fun.

We saved up most of the money needed for our house extension with a combination of indecision (we spent about 10 years playing 'move or extend') plus we benefitted hugely from the drop in interest rates, so our mortgage reduced by hundreds of pounds a month.

Just before we started paying for the extension I moved all the money into our current account so we could pay the builder a deposit, buy the kitchen etc and DP went to the bank and they started asking him if he wanted to see the 'investment manager', which flumouxed him a bit because he doesn't really take any much notice of our finances, but he said he didn't know, he'd ask me and he came home and said in hushed tones, 'Barbara, do you know there is nearly £50k in our bank account' Grin.

I had told him as we were planning the extension how much money we had and how we needed to get a loan to top up the amount we had, didn't need to remortgage, etc etc and it clearly went in one ear and out the other Hmm.

madwifenewlife · 18/09/2017 14:30

@petitdonkey oh gosh must be nice. Normally I'd be Blushif anyone saw mine lol

OP posts:
madwifenewlife · 18/09/2017 14:33

@BarbaraofSevillle haha love the fact he said he would ask you. Men are funny bet he was like a deer in headlights. Well done that's great
