To ask about the awful jewellry I keep seeing these bright young things wearing?

I'm 45 and out of touch admittedly but I keep seeing teens and early 20s young women, wearing the terrible crystal jewellry that was about in the 90s!

I'm old now aren't I?

If this is "back" then that's it...it's so frigging UGLY!

Back when I was hip and all that, I wore original 60s jewellry...so that's all they're doing isn't it??

Wearing the stuff I wore when I was young! Shock

Just checking...what are your teens and young women dds wearing?

Well if we're talking about trends I've noticed lads wearing leggings. I asked about it, apparently you need a space of leg between your trouser and sock for it to be right. In the 90s trousers needed to cover your entire foot, so it's not a 90s thing. Definitely a mish mash of all the decades happening.

Oldraver · 18/09/2017 11:14

@limitedperiodonly

We all did this when we were young. It's when you get older that it looks sad. I saw someone in her 40s wearing lots of silver coloured rings with colourless crystals on both hands. I think they were her teenage daughter's. To make it even sadder she'd put them on her thumbs and forefingers. It looked desperate.

What a spiteful cunty thing to say

thecatfromjapan · 18/09/2017 11:15

I just had a massive clear-out and passed on some of my old costume jewellery to my dd.

She refused a lot of the crystal stuff (and I had some real corkers!!) but did accept a little amethyst bracelet, which she wears amongst all of her other bangles and friendship thingies. It felt really nice - like a little bond through time. I wish I'd managed to off-load more of the hippie stuff on her, and the items that were vintage when I acquired them - but they're off to a charity shop, where I hope they'll make someone else happy.

LemonSalad · 18/09/2017 11:15

Is this the type of necklace you mean?

Agate / geode / druzy jewellery has been back in fashion for at least two or three years now. I personally love it, so much nicer and longer lasting than most cheap fashion jewellery.
I'm not a hippie type dresser at all by the way, mostly wear very clean lines, COS / Scandi architect kind of stuff and also hate 90s fashion.

TheClaws · 18/09/2017 11:18

Pardon? Isn't the point of jewellery you wear what makes you happy? I couldn't care less what anyone else thought about my jewellery. It's very personal to me.

misskatamari · 18/09/2017 11:23

I just saw an Etsy shop the other day selling lovely crystal jewellery like that Lemonsalad. I used to love things like that as a teenager and plan on getting some again. I really like crystals though. My mum was a geographer and had a huge love of rocks and crystals so they always remind me of her

SardinesAreSwimming · 18/09/2017 11:23

I hate it when people sneer at older people taking care over what they wear.

What are we supposed to do? One day just decide to stop enjoying clothes, making an effort and slip into a twinset?

Genuine question.

SistersOfPercy · 18/09/2017 11:25

I wear silver rings on my forefingers and thumbs, they hold my hyper mobile joints in place. And yes, you can have them made with crystals if you choose.

I am desperate. Desperate not to be pushing my joints back into place throughout the day.

limitedperiodonly · 18/09/2017 11:27

What can I say OldRaver? I'm a 50 year old cunt and rings that would look good on her 15 year old look bad on her.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 18/09/2017 11:28

Agree, Sardines although I'd widen that to 'other people' rather than just specify 'older people'.

Some women are just pointlessly bitchy and that's the truth of it. Not happy unless they're pulling somebody apart for stuff that really doesn't matter, as if their opinion actually matters. Urgh.

SardinesAreSwimming · 18/09/2017 11:30

Good point lyingwitch. I enjoy what others people wear.

Why rip into someone for daring to wear a ring on her (gasp) thumb.?

Floisme · 18/09/2017 11:30

I also agree with you Sardines - except regarding twinsets which I think are pretty cool Smile

What exactly is the problem with older women enjoying fashion?

guilty100 · 18/09/2017 11:32

I have no idea what you are talking about, I NEED PICTURES

chirpyburbycheapsheep · 18/09/2017 11:35

Oh yes the 90s are back. I could have bought the entire shop's worth of Zara the last two seasons, now suddenly I don't want a thing. Lots of plastic pearls attached to jumpers.

Don't get the comment about the older woman wearing rings. People should wear what they want. I personally love it that many more 'older' people are still interested in fashion. I saw a woman in her 70s the other day wearing a paper-bag waisted orange skirt and super cool sunglasses. She look amazing. But I'm in London and you can wear what you want here, no one bats an eyelid.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 18/09/2017 11:37

Indeed Sardines but that poster is seemingly always like that.

I love looking at what other people are wearing and how they're wearing it. That's the basis of fashion, I thought? I see so many stylish and confident people (of all ages) who defy the 'norm' and I think to myself, "Good for them!".

LemonSalad · 18/09/2017 11:39

misskatamari, if you don't mind the longer shipping times, I can highly recommend Aliexpress for crystal jewellery. The pic is a screenshot of my Ali jewellery Pinterest board, all much cheaper than Etsy and a lot more choice.

SistersOfPercy · 18/09/2017 11:43

Not my photo as my rings are plain, but if you happen to see someone wearing rings like these rather that judging them try being bloody thankful you don't have the condition they do.

Sisters what are those rings for?

MrsOverTheRoad · 18/09/2017 11:49

Lemon is shopping on Aliexpress easy? I find it very confusing when I go there...but I often see things I'd like.

I wear silver rings on both thumbs for no reason other than I like it Grin Could not give a fuck what anyone else thinks about it. HTH

MarthaArthur · 18/09/2017 11:53

sisters are they for elher danlos rings?

SistersOfPercy · 18/09/2017 11:57

They are EDS/Hypermobility rings yes.

They hold the joint in place to stop the finger/thumb popping out of place. My joints are much worse in cold weather so I tend to wear them in winter mostly, although a flare up can happen anytime.

They look like unusual bits of jewellery but are there to serve a purpose.

MarthaArthur · 18/09/2017 11:58

Wow! Didnt know that. I have mild EDS and my finger are crooked and almost backwards. I may look into these. Thanks for sharing x

abbsisspartacus · 18/09/2017 12:04

I've wore a thumb ring for around 20 years my cat gave it to me (He liked shiny things) I've wore it since

RhiannonOHara · 18/09/2017 12:04

I'm over 40 and wear rings on thumbs and forefingers because I like it. Call me desperate if you like.
