Evan Rosenfeld
Evan Rosenfeld @Evan_Rosenfeld
BREAKING: South Korean media report North Korean foreign minister has said country may test hydrogen bomb in Pacific.

Caroline O. @RVAwonk
I don't think it's a coincidence that this comes just days after Trump stood in front of the #UNGA and threatened to "destroy" North Korea.
Kim Jong Un tells the North Korean people every day that America wants to destroy them & their country... /1/
Now, Kim Jong Un has POTUS on tape saying exactly that. The regime couldn't have asked for a better soundbite. /2/
Trump didn't even distinguish between Kim Jong Un's regime and the North Korean people when he threatened to "totally destroy" NK. /3/
Kim Jong Un will use this soundbite to show the North Korean people that the threat is real. He doesn't even have to say it - Trump did. /4
The regime tells the North Korean people that America is hostile towards NK, & that they need nuclear weapons to defend themselves. /5/
This is also how the North Korean regime justifies atrocious human rights violations. People starve so they can pay for nuclear weapons. /6/
Trump is helping Kim Jong Un justify why North Korea needs nuclear weapons & giving the regime an excuse to ramp up nuclear development. /7/
Trump has also given North Korea an excuse not to sign a denuclearization deal. Why would they? He doesn't honor international accords. /8/
Trump backed out of Paris climate accord. He wants to back out of the Iran nuclear deal. He's threatening NAFTA. /9/
These actions have consequences. Yes, North Korea is the one threatening a nuclear test. But Trump is the one threatening to kill them.

Trump Supporters Quietly Built A Massive List With The Personal Information Of Thousands Of People

The list began traveling the dark corners of the internet around April as a scattered collection of names, addresses, phone numbers and social media accounts. It's now a massive organized database of thousands of people.

Sorry I have not been contributing much - feeling overwhelmed by it all at the moment.
Here in Australia we are in the middle of a same sex marriage 'survey'. A ridiculous initiative by our PM who is too spineless to just bring the legislation in. As everyone predicted a lot of nastiness is coming out through the process. However here is a cheering photo of a 'no' billboard which has been amended by a local pizza shop.

(1) Ty Cobb tells me re WaPo report:"It would be truly shocking" if true Paul Manafort "tried to monetize his relationship w the president."

I nearly spat my tea at that, Pain!

Wot, only people called Trump are allowed to monetize their relationship with the presidency then?

PerkingFaintly · 22/09/2017 08:27

And thanks for the link about the former head of GCHQ.

It's not that there's anything intrinisically wrong with former civil servants moving on to other jobs, it's that clearly Acoba (the Advisory Commission for Business Appointments) is so toothless that civil servants don't even bother going through the motions.

perking bolsheviks are clearly the thing to be worried about! There's nothing to be concerned with about the rise of nazis (who identify as that so it's not Godwin's law)

Yep, I'm boggling at the Bolshevik obsession.

Robert Jay Lifton was someone (amongst many) who raised the question of Trump's mental state a short while ago. Lifton is no light weight, that's for sure.

I should look at the whole thread Pain.

This BBC article is more than a little worrying.

Ironic that KJU is the only world leader prepared to call Trump deranged.

borntobequiet · 22/09/2017 09:15

My lovely uncle developed dementia, but my family hadn't been told when he and my aunt came to visit. Over the course of the visit I became first puzzled and then concerned about his discourse in general and specific things he was saying - that the people at the bus stop outside his house were stealing his cabbages (no bus stop outside house, he didn't grow cabbages) - is the one that sticks in my mind. However my mother kept the conversation going and responded in kind - "perhaps you miscounted the cabbages" - resulting in a very surreal experience for me.
After the visit I asked my mother if she thought my uncle had been a little odd in what he was saying. She said no, he always talked like that...I realised at that point that if one has decided that someone talks sense, one may well keep thinking that, even if what they are saying is blatantly bonkers. Like Trump.

cozietoesie · 22/09/2017 09:46

Mr Colbert. Smile

cozietoesie · 22/09/2017 10:12

Mr O'Donnell from (I think) last night.

OnTheDarkSideOfTheSpoon · 22/09/2017 10:44

Love a bit of Colbert, although I'm not sure how to feel about him making that gag about crowd size at the emmys. It's mean spirited of me and I know it's a horrible thing to say but making a joke about someone behind their back is one thing - a coping mechanism and a bit of satire - but to do it in spicers presence and include him in the joke normalises it a bit I think and let's him off the hook. It minimises what he's done and doesn't hold him to account. Not sure if that's a fair statement but those are my thoughts atm!

Can I offer up a veritable bouquet of virtual treats for all of you for persisting? It's been such a comfort to be sharing these dark days with you and I've learnt so much WineBrewCakeFlowersGinStar

cozietoesie · 22/09/2017 10:57

There seems to be a general attitude of - almost - fellow feeling with Spicer. In the media as a whole.

lionheart · 22/09/2017 11:46

There was certainly a backlash against that normalisation on social media.

Thank you very much Pain.

I have learnt a lot too and found so many of these threads to provide a great sense of solidarity. Smile
