to think that Paul Bowhill (bailiff) should be Knighted!

Paul Bowhill of Can't Pay We'll Take it Away fame is so kind!
He always goes out of his way to help the evictees; giving his own number, making arrangements for them.
He doesn't just evict and go. He should be Sir Paul!

It's a horrific program and I can't bear to watch it, people I love have been in that kind of difficulty due to mental illness or isolation, really vulnerable people with no one to turn to for help, and I don't think it should be televised :( Really just emphasises this anti-poor, anti-benefit culture that is growing.

Jellybean85 · 16/09/2017 21:29

I agree that a lot are probably
Different off camera however I think Paul actually comes across really genuine,
You can't fake the emotion he clearly sometimes feels .

Theconifers25 · 16/09/2017 21:31

Yup he's the man! I always think 'yeah, Paul's got this'. I like the yellow tinge to the top of his hair as well. Reminds me of melted ice cream

An episode the other day involved a guy with terrible mental health problems. Steve Pinner (Paul Bowhill's colleague) really helped him. He talked him down, gave him his personal mobile number, and helped to sort him out.

Sir Paul and Steve OBE!

Does he fuck!! He give incorrect advice!! He just says anything to get them moving and get on with the job!

He tells people evicted for rent arrears that they will be re homed by the council when the council will tell them they are to blame for being evicted due to not paying their rent! He tells them they have children so they have to be housed, where the council will really tell them that SS will take their kids and they can sleep on the streets!

This is all part of the government's policy to encourage people to believe that the 'lower classes are indeed well taken care of', but it is all bullshit!

I luffs him. He really is a fabulous human being.

Shockedshell · 16/09/2017 21:35

*Do you really and honestly think bailiffs are like that when the cameras are not on them?

They make a living based on how much money they get back or how many people they evict*

I'm a Local Authority Housing Officer and have to attend evictions and I can honestly say the Bailiffs I work with treat everybody with kindness and respect (as do I) and we have no TV cameras filming us.

DP said that if he was ever evicted, he'd like it to be dealt with by Paul Bowhill. Grin

I'd rather Paul Bowhill be knighted than some washed-up 'entertainer'.

I have met him and Steve Pinner (not on my own doorstep thankfully!). They were both really lovely!

We had our house repossessed when my husband was diagnosed with MS and we couldn't afford the mortgage any more.
Stupidly when he was first diagnosed, we borrowed loads on the mortgage in the hope that he'd be able to get back to work one day.

He got worse, that never happened and we lost our house. Bailifffs do a job, but believe me they don't give a fuck what happens to the people they evict.

A lot of the people they evict are people who seem to make careers out of not paying rent. They get the rent in their benefits but don't pass it on to their landlord. Often when they're evicted they come out with bags full of designer gear. Meanwhile the landlord struggles to pay the mortgage. As hard faced as they come some of the people evicted.

Papafran · 16/09/2017 21:42

A bit sick that (presumably quite well off) people watch the most vulnerable in society being dispossessed of their homes and belongings for 'entertainment'.

He is lovely, I meet him personally at an exhibition a few months back. He is very friendly, he gave me a hug and a photo! Really nice guy.

Theconifers25 · 16/09/2017 21:46

Actually he's correct to a very large extent MammaTJ: if you present to your council as homeless on the night the council has a duty to make enquiries into your homeless situation ( including whether you are intentionally homeless) and are required to accommodate whilst they make such enquiries if they have reason to believe u are in prority need (so vulnerable such as ill health or dependent children amongst other things ).

Local council are so stretched that is unlikely enquiries into homeless applications have been completed by the time the homeless client needs accommodation, that's assuming the person has even sought help before the day of eviction.

To be fair to Paul I've never seen him give the 'go to council for housing ' advice to someone I would doubt who would not be in the priority need catergory.

Papafran · 16/09/2017 21:46

MamaTJ is that really true? So he's giving incorrect advice?

What MamaTJ says upthread is true, yeah. Eviction for rent arrears counts as intentional homelessness and there is no duty to rehouse. Local authority owes a duty to children, not intentionally homeless adults, and could legitimately put kids in foster accommodation without the parent (but will sometimes house the parent as well under their duty to act in the child's welfare).

CaptainHammer · 16/09/2017 21:47

Paul Bohill is the main reason I watch the show!

ToeKneeChestNut · 16/09/2017 21:47

Of course it's not poverty porn! Half of the jobs are at businesses and some of the people seem very well off!

So the poster upthread who mentioned people who were being made homeless with dependent children was referring to something else? Because I can't see anything remotely entertaining about that...
