Nc for this one which will may stick
sil and her kids coming to visit and said she will be here for 11am. So I cooked 2 different meals and have been up since 9 getting housework done.

It's now past 1pm no sign of them and no call either to say they will be late.
Now aibu to just lock up and go out, it's such a lovely day and I promised I will take the kids to the farm later and I still need to get my shopping for the weekend.
I have text but no reply as of yet. That was an hour ago.

Drop off food for them?!

So they didn't come, didn't bother to tell you, and now they get home delivery of free food?

Noooo.

I would send her a message. I've been waiting in for you and had lunch ready. I'm disappointed you didn't think to tell me you'd changed your mind.

FizzyGreenWater · 16/09/2017 14:43

Stay totally calm, eat the food or store, and next time she suggests a plan be all 'yeah yeah sounds good' in as vague as possible a way. Then make damn sure you are out on the day with phone off. Don't tell DH they plan to come either.

'You're pissed off that you wasted a journey? Why? I wasted a fridge full of food last time you didn't bother to let me know you weren't coming. Chill out petal!' said with an infuriating grin.

staycalmandsmile · 16/09/2017 14:46

My dc had the pasta for lunch, leftovers can be for when they get a little peckish. Me and dh will have the steak and I will force a second helping down us for later too. 😁

I'll let the kids choose their toppings for the pizza for dinner tonight.
I can feel an argument brewing if he takes food over there.

existentialmoment · 16/09/2017 14:50

well yeah, I was expecting them so wanted food to be ready. Steak was still cooking and was ready for 1. Why wouldn't I have it ready for lunch time??

hold on, you had guests supposedly coming at 11am, and when they hadn't arrived 2 hours later you started cooking steak and chips? Why would you think that they would suddenly arrive when the food was ready?

staycalmandsmile · 16/09/2017 14:52

I put it on the grill for 11 when they supposed to arrive by. I've never experienced rude guests before so assumed they would be on there way. Not debating my time keeping and hosting skills here. Sorry.

OP posts:
existentialmoment · 16/09/2017 14:54

You put steak on the grill at 11am to eat at 1pm?

I know the point is your rude guests but none of this makes actual sense!

weebarra · 16/09/2017 14:55

Two hours to cook a steak?

Lj8893 · 16/09/2017 14:57

I don't eat steak but I'm fairly certain it doesn't take 2 hours to cook.

Yanbu to be annoyed at your sil though.

InsomniacAnonymous · 16/09/2017 15:00

Surely you cook steak shortly before you're going to eat it, i.e. when everyone's turned up. Confused

ComputerUserNotTrained · 16/09/2017 15:00

I could get a degree of passive aggressive satisfaction from dumping their cold lunch on her doorstep, but I wouldn't actually do it.

Might there have been a genuine reason though, for her no show?

QueenMortificado · 16/09/2017 15:00

2 hours to cook steak....??

category12 · 16/09/2017 15:01

Crikey if your steak takes 2 hrs, maybe it was the idea of eating your cooking that put them off coming. Grin

KAT0779 · 16/09/2017 15:02

I've had similar happen to me, food overcooked because 'friend' decided to go food shopping on her way to mine and arrived over an hour late (I planned to have food ready approx 30 mins after her arrival). She pretty much ate and ran as she had to get her fresh food home!!

Aridane · 16/09/2017 15:04

Category!! Grin

staycalmandsmile · 16/09/2017 15:05

Partially cooked it then would have finished off when they got here. Then kept it warm in oven while I fed baby and put the chips on.
Now ignoring stupid replies in regards to how long it takes to cook food/ why would I cook it before etc... seriously!!

OP posts:
InsomniacAnonymous · 16/09/2017 15:07

A partially cooked, then finished off, then kept warm in oven steak would have been inedible to me. I like my steak medium, not made into leather.

Yorkshirebetty · 16/09/2017 15:10

Ignore the stupid replies, Stay calm. I had a SIL very similar, she once turned up at 4pm for lunch planned for 1. Tell her that you spent all that time prepping and cooking, why couldn't she contact you? YANBU.

staycalmandsmile · 16/09/2017 15:14

Thank you all for all the helpful replies.xx

OP posts:
QueenMortificado · 16/09/2017 15:21

Don't think I've ever seen steak being partially cooked then finished off later. What kind of steak do you do that with? Like, stewing steak or something?

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 16/09/2017 15:22

Why on earth would your DH deliver food that she couldn't be arsed to arrive for?

youarenotkiddingme · 16/09/2017 15:25

I don't think the OP's cooking skills or timings are really the issue here?

existentialmoment · 16/09/2017 15:25

They aren't stupid replies. Did you mean to be so rude?

Since you started it I'll say that your steak sounds like a shoe would taste better.

Oldraver · 16/09/2017 15:26

Have you cooked for her before ? If so she probably didnt want to eat your food. That's a really weird way to cook steak...who starts cooking steak at 11am

WhatToDoAboutThis2017 · 16/09/2017 15:26

Why so rude, OP?

It's understandable you're upset at your SIL, but there's no need to take it out on posters who've put in the time to reply to your thread.
