To be furious that I've been sent a £100 parking fine from KFC?

We very rarely eat there but one Saturday afternoon the children and i were hungry and I've always had a weird love for their chicken burgers. Went in. Ordered food, ate food, went to loo, had ice cream went to loo again (two DC both seem to need loo moment food arrives). Went home.

Now get £100 fine as it took us 62 minutes to eat. Now i know these are to discourage people from parking and then going off and doing their shopping but we truly didn't!!!

I got one from McDonalds. Complained to the CEO and got it waved.

flownthecoopkiwi · 16/09/2017 10:33

I paid by card but as it was a Saturday it's on my account but for the Monday. God I'm annoyed!!!

Saw this happen to a couple during my first visit to KFC. I've never been since and will never go again. If everyone stopped going they'd either (i) change there inflexible parking or (ii) go bankrupt

MrsHathaway · 16/09/2017 10:39

DH got one from McDonald's when his car wouldn't start after he and DC2 had eaten. By the time the AA rocked up it was after the hour.

Fortunately said AA van was in the photo so it was easy to challenge. They didn't argue.

How did you spend over an hour in kfc, by the way? I scoff mine much faster Blush

TheMaddHugger · 16/09/2017 10:43

Where the heck do you live [shocked] ... erm no don't answer that.

80sMum · 16/09/2017 10:44

They expect you to have ordered, eaten and left within less than an hour. It's not an unreasonable time frame for a fast food outlet, I think. The problem is that they have no way of knowing where you were during the time you were parked in the car park. Write to them, or phone, and explain. I would expect that in that case they would almost certainly waive the charge.

Penny4UrThoughts · 16/09/2017 10:48

Write and complain. You were two minutes over.

BuggerLumpsAnnoyed · 16/09/2017 10:55

Complain but also I don't even think you legally have to pay and parking tickets that haven't been issued by the council

diddl · 16/09/2017 10:55

I agree that it's not odd on their part to want you to be gone within an hr-but then that's essentially £100 for 2mins parking!

Are there signs to explain this?

I'm sure when travelling when the kids were young we would have spent longer at McDs as the kids would play outside!

BarbaraofSevillle · 16/09/2017 10:56

62 minutes is an awful long time to spend in KFC without extenuating circumstances but if you write to KFC politely asking them to get the ticket cancelled, didn't realise etc they probably will. Don't bother appealing to the parking company, they're a shower of shit that don't give a damn and just want your money.

TittyGolightly · 16/09/2017 10:58

Complain but also I don't even think you legally have to pay and parking tickets that haven't been issued by the council

Law has changed and many are now being taken to court if/when they don't pay.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 16/09/2017 11:06

Remind me never to go there.
I didn't even know the hour limit was a thing. Its a restaurant not a borstal

expatinscotland · 16/09/2017 11:06

Definitely complain! And never patronise a place that has a car park like this again.

KAT0779 · 16/09/2017 11:10

I would tweet them, politely but straight to the point. You should get a quick and hopefully positive response x

Sirzy · 16/09/2017 11:11

Legally do they not need to have a 10 min window after the time before ticketing? (I may be wrong but I am sure that came in last year or so!) so if it was an hour allowed and you stayed 2 mins over then it wouldn't be valid?

Whisky2014 · 16/09/2017 11:12

If it's a private company I think you can ignore these. Certainly in scotland you can. I got one from mcdonalds and ignored as per martin Lewis. Nothing ever came of it.

Littlebelina · 16/09/2017 11:13

It is not a parking fine unless it is from the council but an invoice from a company the land owner has employed to run the parking on their land. You "entered a contract" parking on their land saying you would park for 1hr only, (guessing there are signs up to say 1hr parking only?) and they are invoicing you for the time over that. Don't ignore it (as PP says they are taking folks to court now) but definitely challenge it as the charges still have to reasonable (being charged for 2mins over the limit seems unreasonable). Also the signage has to be clear. Look on moneysavingexpert for advice on how to challenge.

It does seem ridiculous that places with restaurants have a 1hr limit but our kfc is the same and I have heard of folks being caught out

CarolinePenvenen · 16/09/2017 11:16

This FB group is fab for info about what tickets etc you can and can’t pay. Lots of knowledge and advice here.

Andrewofgg · 16/09/2017 11:20

If you don't pay and they sue (which is unlikely) defend it - it will be moved to your local court and if they win the only costs they get is the court fee of a few pounds - and the amount is too small for the register of CCJs - and the debt is practically unenforceable.

So they won't pursue it.

Subtlecheese · 16/09/2017 11:21

Your best chance is to challenge the parking fine. First of all look up the "conditions" it may well be 1 hour or longer in certain cases. For example there's a shopping centre near me you can park for 2 hours or 4 if you spent £50 at the various shops.
Challenge it, receipts and proof of purchase are handy. Also challenge the justification for 2 mins over. I am not sure that is reasonable as you could have not been able to park or exit the car park because of other cars 1 min each.

Don't threaten them with not returning emphasise that as a family you're disappointed by this experience having eaten there previously.

Subtlecheese · 16/09/2017 11:23

Look up order notices vs fines as well. It is very easy for these dodgy companies to register to make it legitimate but some of them don't.

strawberrisc · 16/09/2017 11:27

I wrote a long rant on the Aldi Facebook page when it happened to me and it was waived. Plus you don't have to pay it anyway.

GabsAlot · 16/09/2017 11:30

appeal it dont ignore but theyre very unlikely to take it to court-i appeald a ncp ticket got denied but dint take it to court

ShellyBoobs · 16/09/2017 11:37

Plus you don't have to pay it anyway.

OP - do not listen to people saying this.
