Ceebeebies is rubbish

maxiflump1 · 16/09/2017 09:48

Just got back from a weeks holiday in the UK with nearly 3 yo DS. Normally at home if the TVs goes on it's nick Jnr and his favourites include paw patrol, rusty rivers and blaze (the latter 2 quite educational imo!!) as well as princess Nella.

Being in a caravan we had no sky so one rainy afternoon we put on ceebeebees for a bit of a distraction and what a load of tosh!!! Can't believe teletubbies are still going and what the hell sort of trip is in the night garden all about? And don't get me started on the bloody Justin/Mr Tumble monopoly.... the man gives me the creeps!!

Am I the only one that finds it all insipid and twee......

Kpo we did watch a bit of c5 in the morning which was what we would put on in the mornings at home (if we have time). It was only because one day it was pouring it down all afternoon and just needed something for him to chill out too (after a busy couple of days) and whilst I cooked and DH went for a run.

I'm amazed anyone thinks Nick Jr is better than CBeebies!

Pizzaexpressreview · 16/09/2017 10:56

Do you know is good.

And what's the hospital one with the twins ? That has done wonders for preparing my kids for various things. And in their understanding.

Love a bit of blue peter from cbbc too.

Pizzaexpressreview · 16/09/2017 10:57

Me too My. We avoided it!!

daisypond · 16/09/2017 10:58

I think CBeebies is really good - a lot better than other channels. Their programmes are designed for a particular age range and they're in general thought through and well done and often educational, even if you don't like everything. It's not wall-to-wall cartoons. CBBC is also really good for the older children.

formerbabe · 16/09/2017 11:01

I loved cbeebies when my DC were younger. Now they're a bit older, they watch CBBC, which is excellent and has some great shows.

SleepingStandingUp · 16/09/2017 11:01

Paw Patrol etc is basically product placement filler between ad breaks. 2 yo DS loves it but I doubt he's learning much from it.

My only issue with cbeebies is the age range is weird so I imagine when he's a little old Do You Know etc will be great but Bing will be too babyish.

Number Blacks and Alpha Blocks is good old school educational.

Something Special / Mr Tumble is great for Makaton and inclusivity

Octonauts and Go Jetters is basically georgrpahy class.

Bing is behaviour.

Hey Dugee I'm warming to since Tadpoles. It always has a nice message about team work and working together.

Mr Bloom and the oneaboit insects in the tree house- Natural Sciences.

We recorded Small Potatoes as it soothes DS web he's upset.

Patchwork Pals is sweet and again team work, thinking creatively.

Magic Door - well DS loves music, dancing and Cat. Enough said. We need a new series.

Dinopaws I love the old school animation feel.

Magic Hands - poetry and BSL- also recorded and one of my favorites.

Gosh i need to watch more adult tally haha

DollyPartonsBeard · 16/09/2017 11:02

I've been captivated by the Clangers this week (as has the three year old I was watching with); I'm always a bit dubious about old shows being 'reinvented' but it's spot on. Do You Know? is another favourite, really informative and a great lead in to How It's Made videos on youtube.

2ducks2ducklings · 16/09/2017 11:04

Our third child is due in November and there will be quite a large age gap between him and the other two children. I can deal with the nappy changes and sleepless nights all over again but what I'm really, really not looking forward to is bloody CBeebies!

Tawdrylocalbrouhaha · 16/09/2017 11:19

I think CBeebies is great! DS(2) loves Bing, Hey Duggee and Something Special. We only have Freeview but whenever we are in someone else's house and they have Nickelodeon on it seems to be 50% ads (mostly for utter shite).

SaneAsABoxOfFrogs · 16/09/2017 11:22

YABU - Andy's dinosaur adventures contains a lot of accurate factual information (even if the premise is a bit silly), and Sarah and Duck is such a lovely, gentle show.

daisypond · 16/09/2017 11:26

You're not going to get a programme like Something Special on many (any) other channels. It's designed for, and stars, children with disabilities, usually learning disabled, while appealing to all sorts of children.

Lovingmybear2 · 16/09/2017 11:28

2Ducks

We had a 9 and 10 year old when our twins were born.

We bribed them to watch CBeebies with their sisters.

Try that Wink

Pizzaexpressreview · 16/09/2017 11:31

Loved Sarah and Duck!

whoopitywhoopitywhoop · 16/09/2017 12:04

Some shows are suitable for diffenet ages. At nearly 4 INTG is not popular, but do you is too old but some are spot on. But Dr Ranj as helped us through the many medical appointments and operations so much and I will always be grateful for that.

Sunshinegirl82 · 16/09/2017 12:23

Paw Patrol drives me round the bend! I don't mind Peppa in smallish doses and I quite like Ben and Holly but the constant adverts for total crap put me off massively.

I quite like CBeebies! It's gentle and educational. DS loves Something Special, my pet and me, teletubbies and Waybuloo. He's transfixed by in the night garden! Completely adores it! Given that no kids tv is going to be super enjoyable for an adult I think CBeebies is probably as good as it gets!

mirime · 16/09/2017 12:37

Won't watch the commercial children's channels DS is good enough at finding things he wants without exposing him to a load of adverts. DS watched cbeebies a fair bit though and it was fine, a good mix of educational and entertaining. He loved the Clangers.

All he wants to watch now is Lego related stuff. Which I don't mind because I'm happy to buy him Lego.

JeffVaderneedsatray · 16/09/2017 12:52

DD is nearly 10 but has an ASC. She still watches Cbeebies as it is safe and gentle! She loves ( as do I!) Hey Duggeee! (Oh Maaaan!) and, sadly, Topsy and Tim but also adore the Go Jetters and Sarah and Duck.
I think DD likes the predictability of it.

She will watch more 'age appropriate' films but can take 3 or 4 watches to watch the whole thing and then, if she likes them, she'll watch the same film for weeks!
Mr Tumble gets up my nose sideways, as does Justin, although the fact that the show features children with disabilities and is designed for them is a good thing.

RagamuffinAndFidget · 16/09/2017 13:21

I miss CBeebies! Mine are onto Netflix now (Horrid Henry galore! Confused) and I do miss the lovely gentle (and often educational) programmes on CBeebies.

My DS1 had a very sweet little crush on Katie Morag for a while when he was about 5 or 6, it was lovely. And I am a terrible parent so fully credit the Numberjacks and Alphablocks with my kids' abilities to read/write/count Wink

YABtotallyU OP, I'd take CBeebies over Nick JR any day!

IskraTG · 16/09/2017 14:06

I prefer CBeebies stuff. It's not overly loud, for one, and no product commercials. The shows are carefully designed to be educational and not just some cheap dashed-off animation which only exists to sell toys (like Paw Patrol). The frenetic high-speed animation/frame changes in cheaper shows have been shown to contribute to attention span issues (children enjoy the 'fast' shows where the scenes are constantly changing and the characters speak quickly) and therefore don't watch 'slow' shows which are at a more normal speed.

You sneer at parents who choose CBeebies for their children, and CBeebies parents will sneer at those who choose extended TV commercials with no depth or value designed to rile your kid up into a shrieking mess that demands toys.

liquidrevolution · 16/09/2017 14:25

We are a CBeebies only house. Its great and the few annoying programmes are easily avoided. Duggee is obviously genius. The ballets are brilliant. Just sitting with DD watching the tortoise and the hare for the billionth time.

For those still confused about itng. Its not supposed to make sense its supposed to create a sophoric mood which is why only on before bedtime. Because its the bedtime hour. Works for us - DD is a dream sleeper.

And besides i bet sky channels and c5 don't have Tom Hardy reading bedtime stories Grin.

DeadButDelicious · 16/09/2017 14:42

I love The Clangers. And abney and teal. Just the night hour really, that go to sleep song by tee and mo had in my hormonal floods of tears the other week. In the night garden may make no sense but it captures her 10 month old attention long enough for me to make the bedtime bottle and have a quick tidy round. She bloody loves Upsy Daisy.

I cannot stand Topsy and Tim. And 64 Zoo Lane can bugger off and all. And Charlie and bloody Lola.

TheNumberfaker · 16/09/2017 14:45

Dr Ranj alone is worth our licence fee...
Numberjacks is where my username comes from, even though DD1 was scared shitless by Spooky Spoon!
We loved ITNG, we used to dance around the room with DD1 when the alarm went off for the dancing. Getting quite emotional now as DD1 is now 9 and into The Next Step...

SleepingStandingUp · 16/09/2017 19:18

Adore Abney and Teal
