Ceebeebies is rubbish

maxiflump1 · 16/09/2017 09:48

Just got back from a weeks holiday in the UK with nearly 3 yo DS. Normally at home if the TVs goes on it's nick Jnr and his favourites include paw patrol, rusty rivers and blaze (the latter 2 quite educational imo!!) as well as princess Nella.

Being in a caravan we had no sky so one rainy afternoon we put on ceebeebees for a bit of a distraction and what a load of tosh!!! Can't believe teletubbies are still going and what the hell sort of trip is in the night garden all about? And don't get me started on the bloody Justin/Mr Tumble monopoly.... the man gives me the creeps!!

Am I the only one that finds it all insipid and twee......

CBeebies trumps any advert-laden, Sky channel any day! It's educational and doesn't rely on far too fast paced cartoons that are known to be detrimental to young children's brain development.

EdmundCleverClogs · 16/09/2017 10:12

Lovingmybear2, everything stops in this house for Hey Duggee, it's amazing Grin.

Topsy and Tim give me the rage, however it gives the Hurrah for Gin blogger excellent material!

greendale17 · 16/09/2017 10:14

YABU- Hey Duggee, Bing, Postman Pat all great shows

jaseyraex · 16/09/2017 10:14

Absolutely cannot stand Paw Patrol and am so glad my toddler doesnt like it! YABU because Hey Duggee redeems the whole cbeebies channel. It does have it's rubbish like most channels but in terms of educational ones I think it has the best of the bunch.

Yerroblemom1923 · 16/09/2017 10:15

I hardly think having Sky is a "stealth boast" considering the general stereotypes one associates with the brand...

dobbyclub · 16/09/2017 10:16

I love cbeebies. Tried Paw Patrol and it was awful, just edited too 'quickly' so it flashes by really fast, like an advert, for tiny attention spans.
ITNG is gentle and probably for the younger ones, at nearly 3 I think mine's outgrown it a bit although it's nice and reassuring for him.

I don't like Mr Tumble who, granted, does seem to ALWAYS be on in some shape or another but the programmes about 'real' kids (even Topsy and Tim, although they're a bit pukey) have really educated my son.

His favourite is still Thomas on Ch5 though!

Remember what we adults may like isn't the same as what's beneficial to little kids. I hate repetition so ITNG grates my nerves but I do see its benefits.

maxiflump1 · 16/09/2017 10:17

Edmund umm no not a stealth boast. Basically only have sky to satisfy my Game of thrones and walking dead obsessions! The kids to is just a bonus! Come to think of it the only thing I've watched on BBC recently is celebrity masterchef so maybe I have a thing about the BBC in general!

That's why I said 'weird' stealth boast. It reads like the op is bemoaning her poor child having to put up with terrestrial tv, rather that the overly bright, advert laden amazingness of Sky.

Blankiefan · 16/09/2017 10:18

Sarah And Duck is amazing.

And we love Do You Know - great STEM grounding and both DH and I have learnt things too!

Ktown · 16/09/2017 10:19

I think CBeebies is worth the license fee alone.
My kid also doesn't hound me in shops due to her general lack of knowledge of adverts.
It is an all round win situation.

DistractedByIrrelevance · 16/09/2017 10:19

they don't even make any grammatical sense

And my toddler does?!

Jupitertomars · 16/09/2017 10:19

I think cbeebies has far more educational tv than the sky channels.

As for teletubbies, my DD1 absolutely loves teletubbies. She won't bother with any other t.v. but when teletubbies come on she screams with excitement.

WindyScales · 16/09/2017 10:21

We don't have sky and won't be getting it. Between CBeebies, milkshake, tiny pop and Netflix that is enough telly for any child.
I prefer CBeebies as there are no adverts and it's a gentle pace as well as being educational. If the kids have to watch telly at least they could be learning something.

DistractedByIrrelevance · 16/09/2017 10:21

And yes, Sarah and Duck is brilliant. And Hey Duggee. And no adverts. What's not to love?

officerjudyhopps · 16/09/2017 10:23

YABU

CBeebies is marvellous and an absolute necessity in this house. Much prefer it over the advert laden nonsense on other channels. It reflects a great deal of the Early Years curriculum as well so don't need to feel too guilty about frequent viewing!

Plus I'm a little bit in love with all the presenters - would like to have a night in the pub with them!

Completely agree that Grandpa in my Pocket is utter tosh though - I cannot stand it and cringe for James Bolam whenever it is on.

maxiflump1 · 16/09/2017 10:28

Ok lots of love for Hey Duggee so will give it another go!

Although I still find the sky programs quite educational: DS was just explaining to DH what an angle was after seeing it on Blaze and the monster machines. But then he is obsessed by racing cars and rockets: I blame his engineer grandad!

IPlayer, the Tadpole Badge. If you don't laugh at that, you have no sense of humour...

lastofthewintergin · 16/09/2017 10:32

In general I think it's pretty good but I don't understand why it gets so crap and babyish around bedtime. My DS loves the bedtime story but having to sit through clangers and in the night garden is just too much! We usually end up missing the live story and watching one off iplayer instead.

Pizzaexpressreview · 16/09/2017 10:38

There are a lot of proper sciencey programmes on cbeebies. The various Nina and the neurons series .

Sky etc is programming designed for commercial gain - either adverts or all the associated crap to buy.

Cbeebies on the whole is really educational and well designed as they don't have to produce for profit!

We actually only had CBeebies (and then cbbc) as we don't like adverts and can see a huge difference in lack of pestering!!!

SimplyNigella · 16/09/2017 10:38

Hey Duggee is so brilliant I've been known to watch it without DS.

Pizzaexpressreview · 16/09/2017 10:39

To be fair mine don't watch itng or teletubbies! They're older.

The one that irritated me was waybuloo.

Lovingmybear2 · 16/09/2017 10:40

Love the voice over, it's the butler from Downton isn't it?

SquatBetty · 16/09/2017 10:45

No the Hey Duggee narrator is Alexander Armstrong I think?

Love the educational aspect of Cbeebies here which is good as DS watches far too much of it

MsJuniper · 16/09/2017 10:46

Do You Know? is one of the greatest programmes on television today. DS (4) will call DH and I to come and watch if there's a new one. And when he broke his arm, it helped so much that he'd seen Maddie get a cast put on.

Kpo58 · 16/09/2017 10:47

Why didn't you watch Milkshake (channel 5) in the mornings? That has paw patrol, rusty rivets and blaze on it.
