What was he doing?

I went to the local petrol station this morning and filled up the car. I use this garage quite often and most of the time it's maned by a creepy cashier.
I can't really describe why I find him creepy, but he likes to stare at you but not saying anything. Basically, I have to use this garage as the next one is over 10 miles away.
Oh, and he never smiles at anyone.
So, I gave him my card for contactless and said 'tap it'. His machine was nowhere near the front of the counter.
He then taps furiously on the machine. Not on the buttons or the screen.
Then he taps my card all the while staring at me. Had to almost make him give me a receipt as he wasn't going to at first. He could have taken loads of payments for all I know.
Is he just a nutter? Or just a creep?

So, I gave him my card for contactless and said 'tap it' wtf? If you spoke to me like that I would be smiling at you either tbh

Is he a nutter? again wtf? What are you calling a "nutter" anyway? Maybe he just doesn't like his job? Maybe he just doesn't like you being rude?

His probably thinking your the odd ball tbh....

Witsender · 15/09/2017 16:44

You sound quite rude, unless there is something you're leaving out?

InsomniacAnonymous · 15/09/2017 16:45

EamonnWright "It's contactless..."

You only quoted the second part of that post! The first part said:-
"if this card reader is inaccessible to customers, how do they pay by card if it isn't contactless?"

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 15/09/2017 16:45

Is he just a nutter?

Hmm nice

BellyDancer124 · 15/09/2017 16:50

You just handed him a card and said 'tap it'? That sounds really rude of you to be honest.

Exactly what I'm thinking! As someone who has worked in a shop I used to hate being grunted at and told what to do by customers. Sounds like you're the one with the lack of manners OP!

Orchardgreen · 15/09/2017 16:52

You could go back to the dark ages and pay cash. Have it ready before you go to pay, take the receipt than leave.
He may be working in that low paid job because he has social difficulties. Just give him the cash and smile pleasantly.
Be kind.

GotToGetMyFingerOut · 15/09/2017 16:58

He doesn't sound creepy to me at all. Also don't believe the machines too far for customers to use as people who are paying more than thirty pounds need access to it to input their pin. He maybe thought you were massively rude handing him the card and instructing him to "tap it" so tapped it profusely to highlight he was doing as you demanded.

isadoradancing123 · 15/09/2017 17:11

It doesn't make it any less creepy that the person staring at you may have a s d or mental health issues, it's all relative

MrLovebucket · 15/09/2017 17:47

Thank you Insomniac - selective reading seems to be a 'thing' with some posters.

My contactless only covers me up to £30. Over that I have to enter my PIN the good old fashioned way.
