Don't know what to do with wedding dress

VivienneWestwoodsKnickers · 15/09/2017 13:08

..AIBU not to have had a plan on place for it before the wedding?

Married 3 weeks ago. Dress was £600, £100 alterations.

A huge part of me wants to wear it every day and veg on the sofa in it like that Friends episode, just enjoying the most expensive item of clothing I'll ever wear.

Another part says donate it to a charitable cause.

Another part says recoup what money I can, and pay off the disastrous due to Hurricane Irma honeymoon credit card. But where to sell it, and do I have it dry cleaned first?

I'm so torn!

I still haven't done my wedding album either. That's under the bed with photos still in paper waiting to be placed in album!

Aderyn17 · 15/09/2017 14:48

You look beautiful.
I vote for wearing it everday while you watch telly Smile

penguinpurple · 15/09/2017 14:50

I donated mine to an oxfam wedding dress shop.

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 15/09/2017 15:11

Don't Oxfam have outlets specifically for wedding dresses?

BeachyKeen · 15/09/2017 15:20

I gave my dress to DD to use as part of a Halloween costume one year. She was a zombie bride. She loved it! She was allowed to tear it and "blood stain" it , and had an absolute blast!

hettie · 15/09/2017 15:26

I still have mine... But then I got married in a silver and blue Prada cocktail dress Grin. Dunno that is keep a dress that I couldn't wear again unless it could be dyed/altered to be a formal dress

GreenPetal94 · 15/09/2017 15:31

My granny made hers into a white evening gown (appropriate in the 1930s) and then remade it again into a long nightdress. She wore this nightdress right into her 90s - it was very good silk you know.

Mine however is in a box in my parent's attic. And I know it got muddy and I've never had it cleaned. (Dec wedding)

Winteriscomingneedmorewood · 15/09/2017 15:31

Mine has hung on the side of my wardrobe for over 2 years. . Part of the fixtures and fittings now!

thecolonelbumminganugget · 15/09/2017 15:31

I agree with silverforest i have an agreement with friends to occasionally hold a wedding dress party, wear your own or get one from eBay if you don't have one can't fit in yours still Good excuse for a party!

amibeingprecious · 15/09/2017 15:34

I sold mine for £600 and put it into ds savings account when he was born (was pregnant when I sold it)

RhiWrites · 15/09/2017 16:12

Even nicer standing. 😄

This is the link to donate your dress for someone else to wear:

Beautiful dress and flowers 😍

toomanydicksonthedancefloor1 · 15/09/2017 17:21

Beautiful dress! You should keep it, it looks like it was made for you! And congratulations! X

VivienneWestwoodsKnickers · 15/09/2017 17:24

Ah you're all lovely, and I'm feeling very smiley through a migraine, so thank you!

Christmas my friend and I made my bouquet and her maid of honour bouquet the night before ☺️

Keep it. I try mine on every ten years!

Mittens1969 · 15/09/2017 17:27

That's such a gorgeous dress, OP, and the flowers are lovely. Donating a wedding dress sounds like a very good idea. I've kept my wedding dress since our special day (14 years ago), maybe I'll look into selling mine now.

I can't wear mine because I was a lot slimmer in those days. Grin

FlyingGiraffeBox · 15/09/2017 17:31

My mum kept hers for years even after she divorced in case I wanted it- course, by the time I was married the dress was too small, terribly dated and would've cost more to alter than to get a new one. So I got a lovely dress from a charity shop and donated it back afterwards.

kshaw · 15/09/2017 17:33

There's a wonderful charity (I follow it on fb but sure can find it elsewhere) called gift of a wedding and it gifts last minute weddings to people with terminal illnesses, always wanting donations of all kinds xx

CheeseToastie123 · 15/09/2017 17:58

I gave mine to my ex husband's second wife, for her theatre company to use as they wish.

Donate it to this charity

GrumpyOldBag · 15/09/2017 18:08

Our local Oxfam specialises in wedding dresses. People come from miles around to buy.

Why not donate it?

Sadly I can't do anything with mine as i dropped a smoked salmon canapés on it and the grease stain did not come out even with the very expensive specialist dry cleaning.

And I'm afraid to get it out of the box as it will remind me how I am not slim any more ...

emsmum79 · 15/09/2017 18:11

@VivienneWestwoodsKnickers, off-topic but we needed icsi for same reason - we had lots of genetic tests on nhs to establish whether there would be issues. We had no idea that that was the purpose of the tests. Also check out www.eevatest.com

bigbadshewolf · 15/09/2017 19:18

Oxfam online do a great range of wedding dresses - donate it to them? www.oxfam.org.uk/shop/bridal/wedding-dresses

Izzabellasasperella · 15/09/2017 19:41

I have mine on display! It's on a tailors dummy in the corner of my bedroom along with my wedding boots and necklace. I just like looking at it😀
