to suggest to dh which story to read to the dd's tonight?

Dh is in a huff because tonight as the girls were having a bath I leaved through the story book they are currently reading and suggested stories of titles they could read. He got totally arsey about it and said he wouldn't read it out of principle now, and that I was being a control freak.

FFS I was only making suggestions. Girls got quite upset as well because they were begging him to read the 12 Dancing Princesses or whatever that I had suggested and he said no.

I don't know what got into him, I normally always sort out the stuff he reads to them at night, I got books like the Faraway Tree and stuff for him.

IMO he is being an arse, what does everybody else think.

I often suggest stories to DH. Sometimes he complies other times he doesnt. I dont think you're being unreasonable. I do think your DH was a bit mean to say no to the DDs when then agreed with what they wanted. It sounds like you are worried about your DS and are both a bit stressed. Try and let this one go and concentrate on you for a bit....

I dont know you but you sound frazzled so (((hugs to you))))

there's obviously more going on here than thr OP suggests. Obviously posters can't know exactly what's going on in other people's houses. Sorry you're so upset Emkana

edam · 04/04/2007 20:22

Em, sorry a couple of posters are having a go, I imagine they don't realise how much you have to deal with. FWIW I'd leave dh to get on with stories if it's usually his thing. But yes, out of order for him to suddenly snap. Sounds like you are both stressed and losing patience.

mummytosteven · 04/04/2007 20:22

Agree MrsG. In my house it would be perfectly normal for me to suggest to DH what book to read with DS. Not because I'm a control freak but because DH lacks confidence sometimes with DS so it makes it easier for him if he has my input.

Troutpout · 04/04/2007 20:23

He just sounds like he over-reacted Emkana..particularly if he normally doesn't have a problem with your suggestions.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 04/04/2007 20:25

Absolutely MrsGR. Although I do think, reading the OP, YABU Em.

alas, this is the problem with this topic.....

emkana · 04/04/2007 20:43

Well dh just came home with flowers, so there.

Mrs GR, thank you very much for your post.

I don't expect people to not tell me if I am being unreasonable when/if I am because of my circumstances, but I feel that comments like get a life and get a grip are very unfriendly and unneccessary regardless. Isn't it enough to just write YABU?

Ah that's really nice of him he sounds lovely

SherlockLGJ · 04/04/2007 20:45

Yay for Mr Emkana ,though I strongly suspect he does not answer to that in RL.

elasticbandstand · 04/04/2007 20:46

i dont know anyone's individual story, but in RL would not make such unkind comments, nor on here

Aloha · 04/04/2007 20:48

Aw Emkana, I think he's just as worried as you in his own way, but tries to be strong for you all, being a chap. As it happens, I think you should use bathtime as a break as you need one (we all do, and you more than most atm). Lie on the sofa with a glass of wine and rubbish telly. Let him choose the story with the girls. He loves you really!

emkana · 04/04/2007 20:54

I don't care anyway, I am now eating Milchreis, which is German rice pudding, with sugar and cinammon on top...

the ultimate comfort food, bliss.
