Last time I bought an item of clothing in there was 2005.I go in there regularly just to have a laugh at their clothes now! EVERYTHING is covered in lace, sequins, buttons, applique or some such shitty garnish.Nothing whatsoever one would want to buy.Cheap crap you could buy in primark for a quarter of the price, flimsy fabrics.Who the hell are their fashion buyers? Are they blind?Even my mother and grandmother think their clothes are frumpy and do not shop there anymore. How much longer do they think they can get away with the garbage they stock? The shops look like ghost towns, staff are unmotivated. They have no idea who they are targeting.Sainsburys Tu,or Tesco F&F have better clothing than they do.They understand their target buyers may not have rake thin toned upper arms, may have big tummys and crepey chests and have clothes to suit. FFS M&S!!!!Get your act together or you will go the same way as BHS,Woolies etc....And you know what?We wouldnt even care!!!

BuzzKillington · 14/09/2017 21:51

I don't like the clothes apart from underwear and school clothes.

I spend about £100 a week in there on food though. And I just bought 3 lovely vases and some bath sheets. I love their towels.

Bloody love M&S for some things.

Olaf4fuxache · 14/09/2017 21:51

I heard Waitrose are bringing out a clothing line soon...

The food is delicious. I am eating my second m and s watermelon and dragon fruit ice lolly. I have stashed the cheese tasters for later. Their 3 for £10 meat deals are good value. Ok. I own up. It must be me keeping them in business. Their fruit is generally far superior to anywhere else too.

BuzzKillington · 14/09/2017 21:51

Oh yes - their jeggings. I buy loads of those.

mogulfield · 14/09/2017 21:51

As others have said it's such a strong brand, so I don't understand how they've managed to fuck up their non-food products. The clothing element of it is so misguided. They need to sack anyone involved with clothes and start again. It's confused about what it is and who it's for.

Food on the other hand is marvellous, if I were rich I would do my weekly shop there. Their goats cheese and beetroot salad is my favourite thing I put in my mouth.

PovertyJetset · 14/09/2017 21:52

Marks and Spencer's is good, well I think so-

Children- great
Women's wear- some guff but I've got some lovely bits
Men's- as above
Food- delicious!
Underwear- not what it used to be sadly.
Homestuff- pretty but too pricey!
Beauty- incredible!! Such good stuff!!

I bought this

They dont even bother mixing something like chicken tikka marsala,Just lumps of dry meat with a bland sauce slopped in the middle.

I do believe that a spoon would be of use to you, there.

phoebemac · 14/09/2017 21:52

saucy jack Grin Grin

ItsNachoCheese · 14/09/2017 21:52

M and s are the only place i found 2-3 vests with poppy studs so a winner for that alone and i like the chicken tomato and basil pasta pot too

BarbaraofSevillle · 14/09/2017 21:54

The outlet store near us is changing to a Simply Food. I like their food but only buy when I have money off/extra points vouchers and get mostly reduced stuff and the meal deals. Last time I was in I paid £31 for what went through the till as £70 due to all the discounts, so it ended up reasonably priced.

I like their work dresses and trousers, jeans and some shoes. All tops are either the wrong shape, wrong colour or both.

AllToadsLeadToHome · 14/09/2017 21:54

I have never been able to find anything to buy in M&S, not in the last 30 years, except recently, knickers and that is only because I couldn't get them anywhere else at the time.

I will never be buying beige pensioner jackets, not there or anywhere else.

Their shoes are awful, so are their boots. Weird sizing.

JKR123 · 14/09/2017 21:54

I agree their clothing range (apart from children's) is awful. I quite like the jeggings though. I love their furniture range. We bought a pair of sofas from M&S about 12 years ago and they have lasted so well. Such a classic design and they still stock it. Also bought a dining table and chairs which is lovely quality and will last us years.

LongWavyHair · 14/09/2017 21:55

I love the children's clothing in there and their food is quite nice. The adult's clothing is not my cup of tea at all.

GoingTo · 14/09/2017 21:55

I bought some feta cheese there the other day - it was so much nicer than Sainsbury's. Though it did cost more!

Re. the fashion side. I was there last week and looked at a few of the clothes and thought - you know - this could grace a high fashion runway. I like it that they are pushing out the envelope a little. Its not all crimplene cardigans or whatever. I often like a lot of the designs but the cut or the quality doesn't always do it for me. But when both are right - bingo. The sales can be excellent.

bouncydog · 14/09/2017 21:55

Cashmere sweaters and skinny jeans. Knickers and the food hall. And their 600 thread count bedding. Can't beat them for that. But even I wouldn't buy a lot of their other stuff and I'm 60!

hippyhippyshake · 14/09/2017 21:55

I really like M and S clothes. Mainly the sale rail for Limited and Per Una though as I think those ranges are overpriced. Got a lovely pair of Per Una bootleg jeans for £12 a couple of weeks ago. Get all my work clothes from there. And the Footglove shoes fit me like a dream. (Not a shareholder honestly Grin)

Crunchymum · 14/09/2017 21:56

Managed to spend £90 there today.

Mainly on kids stuff (the pj's are fab and they have some nice bits for toddler DD). Also like their maternity leggings. Bought a few pairs!!

OnMyShoulders · 14/09/2017 21:58

I ❤️ M&S, especially the underwear, shoes, kids, home and food.

WhiteCaribou · 14/09/2017 21:58

onelittleclara I don't agree their clothes are for over 60s - I'm 63 and I wouldn't be seen dead in the majority of their stuff. It seems to vary between three types of clothes - the sort of stuff my mum wears (she's 93), clothes that channel mid-40s divorcee on the pull (yes Per Una I'm looking at you) or a pathetic attempt at high fashion which fails every time due to getting either the colours just wrong or over emphasising the fashion trend so the garment is just ridiculous rather than trendy. You can honestly walk through any M&S store and point out all the clothes that will be on the sale rail come end of season. Such a shame, I did used to like M&S. The pants are still ok though and some of the men's clothes for my DH are ok.

fullofhope03 · 14/09/2017 21:59

Have to say I do like the food. But agree with you about the clothes. It's only a [very short] matter of time before they go under unless they pull there socks up Grin
Every time I go into any branch of M&S I feel incredibly frustrated and peed off by the (just for starters) appalling layout of the 'fashion' - It's so muddly. And unflattering. And overpriced. Granted, there are a [very] few pieces that are nice. In fact, there's actually 1 that I covet. (Anyone seen the leapord print winter coat lately? I know, I'm finding my inner Bet Lynch at last Grin. But seriously, it actually makes me quite cross. They are being lazy/bloody thick by not getting a bloody grip. I give them a year before it all goes tits up and they only have the food hall. Shame on them. PS - Have had some wine this evening and am ranting but still feel peed off all the same, Blush

ootlander · 14/09/2017 22:00

The best black leggings I've ever found.
Nice thick elastic waistband, washes well

fuck I sound old

RunRabbitRunRabbit · 14/09/2017 22:01

I like their school clothes. Unfortunately they rarely have any of the right size in stock. As if school uniform buying season took their buyers by surprise. Tried ordering out of peak season but almost nothing was in stock. Gave up and bought from JL and Asda. This has happened repeatedly. I guess it's a sign of their good brand that I keep trying to buy from them.

Julia001 · 14/09/2017 22:02

I am going to totally out myself here and say that I belong to an Archers Appreciation FB group, we have spent the summer trying on that pink fuck awful Abigails Party dress, and posting pictures, there is actually something worse than that pink dress, there is a a sunshine yellow one too !

MikeUniformMike · 14/09/2017 22:02

The food is excellent.
Some of the clothes are very good.
Their shoes are ok.
Tights, socks and knickers are excellent.

Men's clothes are generally good.

Women's clothes - if anyone from M&S is out there - please can you put sleeves on dresses, and pockets in skirts and trousers.
