To wonder why people are so desperate for perfume at car boot fairs?

I was asked at least nine times on Sunday if I had any perfume for sale. And this is from the traders that invade your personal space before you've unloaded.

What on earth do they want to do with it? Is it some illegal scam I'm completely oblivious to?

How weird. What, they want half used bottles of scent?

Rainybo · 12/09/2017 19:54

Maybe because they sell well on eBay?

mumonashoestring · 12/09/2017 19:56

So many companies change or discontinue perfumes that even the part used ones end up going for crazy money on eBay.

abbsisspartacus · 12/09/2017 19:56

If it's the sellers I would think maybe they wanted to make clothing smell nice

TalkingSheds · 12/09/2017 19:56

I've had this too, it was about 3 years ago, we'd just pulled up and opened the boot and people were asking if we had perfume Confused, that seemed to be the most urgent request.

Babyblues14 · 12/09/2017 19:57

Because they are so expensive to buy, all the good name ones are at least 50 quid. I wouldn't mind getting a used one for a couple of quid if I could. Or someone generous could get me a chanel no5 perfume for Christmas Grin

crazyhairdontcare · 12/09/2017 20:00

yep they want half used / old bottles of perfumes.

weird.

Do they make much on ebay then? (hurries off to look)

AppleBosom · 12/09/2017 20:08

some use the bottle to refill and sell.

Youcanttaketheskyfromme · 12/09/2017 20:11

Because they can te sell on eBay for quite a bit. Some people make a living out of car boots.

SingingMySong · 12/09/2017 20:13

They go well on ebay. Some people used to collect the bottles too, I don't know if that's still a thing.

DorisDangleberry · 12/09/2017 20:15

Empty bottles refilled with cheap shit, and then sell on as the real thing. So yes, a scam of sorts.

Branleuse · 12/09/2017 20:36

People on ebay sell tiny sample bottles of expensive perfumes. It might be for that

Youcanttaketheskyfromme · 12/09/2017 20:52

The people I know sell the real deal just picked up very cheap at car boots. Make decent money but sell other stuff too obviously.

disconnecteddrifter · 12/09/2017 21:00

I've got an opened bottle of Chanel no 5 parfum. Was gonna chuck it!

Vinorosso74 · 12/09/2017 21:47

When I was sharing a flat with a friend we got burgled and they took any perfume we had so I'd be very suspicious of people selling it. People like a bargain and some really don't care how they get it.
I am still amazed who would buy a half used bottle of perfume mind.

Haint · 12/09/2017 22:08

Me too disconnected I don't like it 😷

iklboo · 12/09/2017 22:10

Chuck Chanel No 5???? ShockShockShock

RuggerHug · 12/09/2017 22:12

Good lord don't chuck Chanel!!!! faints at the mere mention of such sacrelig

tigercub50 · 12/09/2017 22:13

I have a cabinet full of Avon perfumes, some barely used. Would they fetch much on E Bay?

Babyblues14 · 12/09/2017 22:15

They are about 100 quid a bottle!!!! How can you chuck it??
Mil has about ten in a glass case that she never uses and hasn't once offered one as a gift Envy
And dh and me don't do gifts so I will ever get one Sad

proplapsingallover · 12/09/2017 22:28

You cant post open perfume via royal mail or my hermes etc. So that limits any eBay market.

grecian100 · 13/09/2017 07:04

I wouldn't mind paying a few quid for a half empty bottle

At the last car boot sale I went to they were selling the perfume by the ml, so if it is £50 new they were selling a half used bottle for £25. I couldn't believe it.

grecian100 · 13/09/2017 07:05

Baby treat yourself. We don't do gifts either so I started gifting myself Grin

Sparklingbrook · 13/09/2017 07:07

Bleurgh, that sounds rank. Half used perfume.

I have never been to a car boot sale but do people really rush over to your car as soon as you pull up? Sad Like vultures.

Pizzaexpressreview · 13/09/2017 07:10

I'm more than happy to have anyone's opened channel 5. I can't afford it normally!!
