Shaking with fear of induction

I'm about to be induced at 37+4 due to medicinal needs and I am terrified.
My DH is making everything worse fannying about and being a nervous wreck. Someone please help me stay calm.

I refused induction. Had c section. They can't do anything against your will. Hope all goes well xx

peachandplum · 12/09/2017 21:59

Hi xx
Had the hormone tampon and they don't check your bits for 24 hours after. I've had lots of cramping and pressure so I'm sure it's working.

I've calmed down alot now that i feel like we're moving forward. I must admit I feel like I'm leaking tiny bits of fluid quite often? I slept through most of the pain today.

Thank you everyone for being
So kind.

If anyone wants to share their stories I'd love to read them.

Hi OP

I was induced on my due date after my waters went without labour starting.

I had the pessary and then drip - was 13 hours from time of arriving at the hospital but about 5hours of intense contractions and 45 minutes pushing.

I wasnt allowed any drug pain relief so had gas and air but dont be afraid to ask if your in pain. Its not the middle ages - science is amazing and you shouldnt have to suffer.

Just concentrate on your breathing and not worry about everything going on around you. Your body is designed for this and it sounds like and old wives tale but you really will forget the pain of labour once youve had the baby.

Good luck and hope your havinf snuggly newborn cuddles soon.

Good work, OP, it is quite frightening when you don't know what to expect but it sounds like you are in a better mindset now.

peachandplum · 12/09/2017 22:43

So much pressure in my foof, I can barely breathe!

I was induced at 37 weeks last Monday. I've had a previous section so couldn't have the 24 hour pessary but had 2 x 6 hour pessaries of a different drug and after those I was dilated enough for them to break my waters. I didn't go into labour within the timeframe they allow after that so they put me on the hormone drip - I had an epidural sited at the same time which I very much recommend. You can rest with epidural in and you can control the dose so I could still move my legs/feel contractions until I chose not to.

I started the drip at 3.15am and DS3 popped out at 10.28am

Try and stay calm, your baby will be here soon

thecatsarecrazy · 12/09/2017 22:49

I was induced with my third using the tampon thing. Once contractions started things got moving quickly. Hope you are doing ok

YouStoleTheBowlFromTheRoom · 12/09/2017 22:57

Sending good wishes and good luck, OP. You're going to meet your baby soon! ❤️

kaytee87 · 13/09/2017 07:13

Hope you're ok today op. It's scary but you're doing really well and will be holding your baby soon Bear

ZuzuMyLittleGingersnap · 13/09/2017 07:22

Been thinking of you, OP. Flowers

Hope all's going as smoothly as possible.

I was induced at 37 weeks as my waters broke but Labour didn't start. I had just the drip, and then had an incredibly quickly labour, with under an hour of pushing before the baby was out. I'm now sitting here with my lovely snuggly 5 week old little boy. The whole experience was really positive and I would have now qualms about being induced again (and I was extremely reluctant beforehand!) I hope all is going well and you get to meet your gorgeous baby soon.

user1498549192 · 13/09/2017 07:33

That's supposed to say NO qualms, obviously Grin

flumpybear · 13/09/2017 07:58

So pleased your less stressed, hoping perhaps your baby has arrived now as it's nearly 11 hours since you last wrote ❤️

peachandplum · 13/09/2017 08:18

Hi everyone. Thanks for your lovely posts.

It's been 22 hours with the hormone tampon. Lots of pressure and a little bit of pain. They will check me in 2 hours.
I think being left 24 hours without an examination is quite bizarre!

If my cervix is 'ripened' we'll start the next step but if it's not ready ill be left with another 24 hour tampon.

Has anyone had two 24 hour tampons?

Being left 24 hours without an examination with the pessary is quite normal op. An examination before hand won't tell anybody a lot unless you were having regular, moderate-strong contractions.

I'm surprised they would let you go another 24 hours with the pessary without a 24 hour rest period but that's not to say that's wrong.

SaneAsABoxOfFrogs · 13/09/2017 08:38

Hi OP, I was induced 4 weeks ago now. When I first had the propess my cervix wasn't favourable at all, but after 24 hours things had changed, they were able to break my waters and that triggered labour for me. My lovely boy was born a few hours later in the pool. I had to be continuously monitored, but I stopped noticing that pretty quickly. I know everyone's induction is different, but lots of us have positive induction stories to share. Good luck xx

Becles · 13/09/2017 08:57

OP you say that the consultant told you that they'd not been coming in as frequently because you'd asked to be left alone, but clearly didn't find it helpful that they took your words seriously.

Is there anyway to remind your oh to actively seek information or staff contact at the times you change your mind?

peachandplum · 13/09/2017 09:03

Sorry I didn't mean it like that.

They leave you 24 hours with the pessary to give it chance to work that's why they don't examine you. I just thought 24 hours was long!
Midwife said she will have a look in a couple of hours and either try to break my waters or give me a stronger induction gel.

I feel much calmer.

My breasts are absolutely killing me with pain. They feel huge, rock hard and so tender. I think it might be a reaction to the hormones? They hurt far more than the cramping.

eatabagofdicks · 13/09/2017 09:08

Hope you're ok OP.

Re your boobs. That's how my boobs felt when my milk was coming in.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 13/09/2017 09:37

Well, you're well on your way now Peach, labour can be a long road though ! Every hour, is an hour nearer. Thinking of you 🙋🏼

mogulfield · 13/09/2017 09:42

I was in labour for 44 hours (not induced), so I feel your pain! You feel like it will last forever, and you and eat or sleep which seriously impacts on your mental resilience.
A lot of woman have long labours and know what you're going through Flowers
At least you're on the right track now and baby will be here soon (one way or another!).
Try and rest if you're not having contractions/in too much pain and get excited to meet your baby!

Dreams16 · 13/09/2017 09:50

Ohh op I feel for you I was in the same boat when I had to be induced I was overdue though 42 weeks had the tampon thing didn't work had the tablets inserted didn't work
Waters broken and then the drip eventually my DS arrived I feel and no your pain I was in hospital for a week waiting and felt I was losing my mind with the worry of what if something happens to my baby and why are they taking so long etc
All I can say is if your DH is in hospital with you go for as many walks as you can to try take your mind off it all walking helps along with fresh air
Have you got music or book or magazine just do anything and everything to distract your thoughts
You'll be fine and you'll soon have your DC

Hello!
Haven't RTFT, but thought I'd share my story.
Had a difficult pregnancy (Felt ill and sick ALL the time) culminating with being diagnosed with high blood pressure at 31 weeks, then Pre-eclampsia at 35 weeks.
Managed to make it 37 weeks, then induced. Had a (painful!) sweep at 37+ 0, no effect.
Had 2 x pessaries in hospital. Lost my mucus plug and a bit of cramping, but not much else.
Was told they were considering a c-section, so I asked to see a doctor. Doctor xamined me, told me she thought they could break my waters even though I was only 2cm dilated. So booked to go down to labour ward the next day.
Taken down at 5am (!) and had waters broken. Had tohave gas and air as quite painful. Then the drip started about 9am. Things progressed quickly. At about 2pm asked for an epidural as had really bad pain in my back (told baby was back to back). Had epidural and...nothing happened, it hadn't worked. But whilst I was sitting forward to have it, the pain in my back got better (think the baby turned).Whilst they were discussing, I felt like I needed a massive poo. Toldthe midwife, who was (kindly) skeptical, as I had only been 4cm 30 mins before. She checked and the baby's head was almost out!
My beautiful daughter was born at 17:10. Ended up having NO pain relief at all. Painful but fine, I wouldn't worry about it. Had a 2nd degree tear that was stitched up - absolutley no problems now.

I had high blood pressure throughout birth, and ended up staying in 5 days post birth, which was horrendous, but the safest thing to do.

My daughter was on the 8th centile, so small for gestational age. They said the placenta was probably starting to fail, so early induction was 100% the right thing to do.

So that's my story! If you're being induced for pre-eclampsia, you might have quite a quick birth. My midwife said that in PE, the body wants the baby out ASAP! Be prepared to stay in for a few days after birth while your BP settles.
Good luck OP! Let us know how it goes. It's so magical when you get to see your baby, makes you forget all the suffering!

Lj8893 · 13/09/2017 11:54

How are you going op?
