To announce pregnancy to family by giving a baby scan at 16 weeks

My husband thinks it's totally inappropriate and keeps saying 'What if we discover that the baby has problems at the 20 weeks scan'.
I live abroad and I would like to give a little scan to my parents as we don't see each others often.

What do you think? Is it such a bad idea??

.... and sometimes you won't know there are serious issues until after the baby has been born despite all antenatal tests coming back fine (happened to me)

I think if you don't tell them to 20 weeks they might be a bit pissed off you didn't say anything. It's half your pregnancy. I didn't tell anyone until I was 16 weeks and people took the right hump.

Who cares if anyone is annoyed? It's not their pregnancy people need to stop feeling so entitled.

I posted a photo of my 12 week scan on Facebook with both of mine and with my DD I gave my parents a copy of the scan. I know things could be wrong at the 20 week scan, everything could also be fine until the last couple of weeks or everything could be perfect all the way through. If you want to tell your parents and give them a copy of the scan go ahead and do it.

My sister asked to see a scan picture in my last pregnancy (probably out of duty) and I suggested she google it because they all look the same.

There serious anomalies which won't show up till much later, possibly even birth. You can't not tell people on that off chance, as others have said it's when you are most likely to need support.
