Why risk it? Why not go early in the summer, when the risk is lower?

Florida is cheaper beginning of Sept according to my friend who always goes then. She says it's because American schools are back. I wonder if it's because of hurricanes.

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 11/09/2017 07:52

Its cheaper basically

And im not sure of how often a devastating (to tourists) hurricane happens sotourists may be willing to take the risk of nothing happening or a miserable few days

RonSwansonsMoustache · 11/09/2017 07:53

Because it's less than half the price, and most years there's never any storms that even come close to what's happening this year.

Rufustherenegadereindeer1 · 11/09/2017 07:53

Bloody hell

By miserable few days i mean a hurricane that is smaller or doesn't affect the area much

Not belittling a hurricanes effects before anyone jumps in

ClaudiaWankleman · 11/09/2017 08:01

Because a hurricane making landfall isn't guaranteed every year, and the areas are beautiful the rest of the year.

School holidays!

CamperVamp · 11/09/2017 08:15

Because many people don't research the weather or know about such things.

Florida is hot, end of.

WotOnEarth · 11/09/2017 08:19

We were out in Florida this exact time last year and the weather was largely glorious. I think if everyone avoided Florida etc for the whole of the hurricane season this would be fairly bad for the tourist industry and probably the economy in general.

I think it's all about assessing the risk and deciding whether they risk is likely to happen.

Disneyland closed yesterday/today for the 6th time in its history. Those are pretty good odds if you are looking for a cheap (relatively) holiday there.

The temperature become somewhat bearable from September. Hurricanes like Irma are very rare.
