Which are the words of a selfish idiot, kerrymum?

Hilllary · 04/04/2007 00:32

I dont think you can keep a cat in a house even though i'm not a cat person, I think this rather cruel, I dont like them in my garden but have found my own method in keeping them out. Nobody likes cats pooing on their property.

hunkermunker · 04/04/2007 00:34

A neighbouring cat used to crap on our doorstep.

I posted it to Spain.

Nah, I didn't - I put down some pellety thing - green, got it in the garden centre, not poison, just smelly stuff - citrony?

Worked a treat. No more cat crap.

SparklyGothKat · 04/04/2007 00:34

I keep my cats indoors!!!! I didn't used to as I didn't think someone would shot him.. another cat was also shot a few weeks after mine, the pellet ricoshaded (sp) inside its bladder and pierced it 8 times.
I still have to pick up cat poo, even though its not my cats doing it.

dionnelorraine · 04/04/2007 00:35

Km - you have no sodding idea what you are talking about! I suggest you look thins up on the internet or something.
Cats are a domesticated wild animals, some will stay inside and some will not be happy being kept inside. its a fact of life, its nature. Cats have been roaming streets for hundreds of yeras as I have said. You are asking the impossible!

dionnelorraine · 04/04/2007 00:38

It is YOUR responsibility to find a humane way to keep cats out of your garden. Everyone else does it, so why shouldnt you? Its not that difficult. Of course you could post a letter through everyones door in your area that has a cat asking them to keep them inside. Im sure the response wont be so polite a mumsnet!

ladymariner · 04/04/2007 00:43

Not wanting to get into this argument particularly, could I just say that usually cats do try to bury their mess. Could it be fox poo that you have found on your grass? They really are filthy, smelly creatures who will just crap anywhere.
(ducks to avoid tirade from fox-loving anti-hunting brigade!)

Hilllary · 04/04/2007 00:44

dionnelorraine there's not need to be so uptight, us non can owners just get mighty annoyed when next doors cat comes into our garden every day to relieve itself. We didn't buy a cat, we didn't want a cat so we dont see why the hell we have to clean up after it. I see it from your view too that you cant keep a cat in but thats not our problem, I dont take my dog next door to relieve itself.

Surely you must be able to see this from both sides?

runkid · 04/04/2007 00:45

My auntys cat uses a litter tray to do its business i think that is a good solution

Hilllary · 04/04/2007 00:46

yes I agree

SparklyGothKat · 04/04/2007 00:49

its not the fact that KM is moaning about ctas crapping in the garden its the fact that she thinks its ok for an animal to be hurt, thats annoyed me. My cat might have crapped in someone's garden, but he didn't deserve to have his leg shattered to pieces, he was in lots of pain, and is still having effects from it, nearly a year on. His leg gives way, he can't jump properably, he falls off things when he tries to jump.

dionnelorraine · 04/04/2007 00:49

Hillary - Ok yes, i do understand your view to a certain extent. Your polite though and dont come out with ridiculous jargon! Anyway it is impossible for cat owners to train their cats to poo in certain places. it is truly impossible. What do you actually expect cat owners to do? (my cat stays in) Frustrating as it maybe people should just find a way of detering cats from their gardens in a humane way rather than shooting them (my original argument) Its jsut an unrealistic view that all cats should be kept in or trained to poo in certain places.

Km, ok you dont think a cat should be hurt thats good to know, but about the other rubbish you come up with? Any realistic solutions to your problem like finding a natural deterant for your garden and the problem is solved maybe??

runkid · 04/04/2007 00:53

DL- cats are trained to go in litter trays i used to have a cat who did and my aunt does now i think its a good solution for everyone even the poor cat

I understand what you mean but it would be nice for a cat owner to try and minimise the amount of poo done elseware (eg. my garden) to encourage a cat to use an area of your garden or litter tray. I'm not sure if you have seen how much these deterrants cost, sprays cost about £5 a go and only last a couple of days, the electric sonic deterrants cost about £60, it all adds up, its expensive keeping cats out of your garden.

dionnelorraine · 04/04/2007 00:56

Ah, yes my cat goes in a litter tray. But you cant let a cat out, especially one thats out for most of the day and tell him " now, you cant poo in mrs smiths garden or Mr Jones, you must on ly do it in ours" Cats just dont understand that! Litter trays, yes, but that doesnt always work for out door cats.

SparklyGothKat · 04/04/2007 00:57

ok KM, I admit you said that, but you also said that maybe the person who shot my cat maybe didn't do it for fun, that maybe they were driven demented by the thing. People shouldn't shot or hurt animals.
I also will say again that my cats are indoor cats now, luckily my cat that was shot adjusted well to the change, but then again he was caged for 3 months. He is netured, and mircochipped, as are my other cats, even though they don;t go out now.

dionnelorraine · 04/04/2007 00:59

KM - yes pretty much what Im saying. My cat is indoors anyway so I dont have that problem and I agree that cats could be trained to poo in their own garden. Now if that worked all the tme everyone would be doing it! Cats will be cats. Thats just the way it is. Im sorry but you cant keep all cats indoors. like I have said over and over again, you are asking the impossible!

Hilllary · 04/04/2007 01:01

Sparkly, I'm sorry to hear about your cat, hurting any animal is not acceptable.

SparklyGothKat · 04/04/2007 01:01

when I was growing up, we had a cat named billy, he was never in the house, he wasn't an indoor cat at all. He ran away after about a year and we used to see him living wild. Some cats just can't be kept indoors.

hunkermunker · 04/04/2007 01:01

The pellets I've used have lasted yonks and were't that expensive. Have loads left too.
