Nice selection of cat deterrent gadgets here

Don't know whether any of them work, of course.

runkid · 03/04/2007 22:43

I have to clean up cat poop before i can let my son play in the garden i find it really annoying today it was a dead mouse. If i wanted to clean up poop i would have a pet

susie40 · 03/04/2007 22:44

Get Off My Garden had no effect on my cats when I wanted to stop them using the nice part of the garden (as opposed to the overgrown rear) as a toilet. A friend once told me that water pistols work very well on cats if you mix chilli oil or chilli sauce in with the water, but that seems really cruel to me.

mothballs work quite well and footballs

We looked after my sisters cats for about six months, They used to vomit all over the garden and bring back mutilated mice. I was really glad when they went. I used to LOVE cats before i had babies.

Skribble · 03/04/2007 22:48

I wonder if cat owners ever notice their neighbours out furiously spraying, cleaning, putting out bottles full of water, putting up grip stuff, must be great to be merrily oblivious to the fact their beloved cat is tormenting the neigbourhood and costing other people lots of money and time.

derlor · 03/04/2007 22:48

i'm in the same situation ad you runkid. it really pi**es me off cause i don't even like cats (wouldn't kill one though )
was talking to my neighbour about exactly this earlier today and she suggested glass jars with water in them as cats don't like the reflection they give off - says it works for her so i'll give it a go. tried cat repelant stuff but only keeps them away for a couple of days.

derlor · 03/04/2007 22:50

oh also may allow my children to crap on the cat owners gardens - see how they like that!!!!

2shoesonanegghunt · 03/04/2007 22:52

big water pistol. Shoot them with water. Worth a shot, they might not come back.

CadburyCremeSquonk · 03/04/2007 22:56

Be nice to them.

Generally that really pisses cats off and they will leave to find someone that doesn't want them in their garden

2shoesonanegghunt · 03/04/2007 22:57

maybe when they stare in the widow I should make faces at them so they don't feel welcome

OP posts:
pointydog · 03/04/2007 23:00

stare at them with your eyes really wide. They don;t like that.

pointydog · 03/04/2007 23:00

then run outside and shoot them with your water pistol.

PeachesMcLean · 03/04/2007 23:01

LOL 2shoes at the thought of you pulling faces at cats outside on your window ledge... How about putting some pics of it on your profile? Hmm?

Only problem with the waterpistol idea is that you need to be in the house quite a lot. DH likes to think that works, but his 5 minutes a day looking at the back garden isn't really goind to catch them...

powder28 · 03/04/2007 23:01

When cats come into our garden our security light comes on and scares the sh*t out of me. Sometimes they come to the window, and they go in our binbags.
I thought a cat was in the garden earlier but it was just the pizza delivery girl falling over

Hassled · 03/04/2007 23:02

The only effective way to get other cats out of your garden is to get your own cat. Failing that - squirt them with water (old washing up liquid bottle) - they hate it.

Frizbe · 03/04/2007 23:03

We got one of those expensive cat get rid of things, that makes loud sonar noises at them, but I tell you what, the damn thing is working!!! no cat crap on my grass since I turned it on battery operated, lasts for 2 mths apparently, can also be wired to mains!

2shoesonanegghunt · 03/04/2007 23:03

i will pay ds to do it much more scarey. imagine a teenager giving you evils............

People cant control their cats when they are outdoors! They cant be trained like dogs! There are certain things (chemical / solutions of some kind) that you can put in your garden that deter them There are ones that dont harm the lawn etc.. Oh and dont use poison either! That is against the law! (not that you were thinking that, but just thought I would day )
Also my dad has an ultra sonic cat deterer. It plays a very high pitched noise which is very faint to us but cats hate it!! And it really does work!

PeachesMcLean · 03/04/2007 23:04

Would love a cat but I'm allergic to them. Not worth the benadryl I'd have to buy. And you have to clean up their poo. And wee. No.

runkid · 03/04/2007 23:08

I have to be honest here and say that i actually chuck the cat poop back over the walls into the gardens the cats come from

ucm · 03/04/2007 23:12

You can throw stones at my cats who poo in your garden, I told my neighbour, but she is kind, so doesn't.

Their dog died recently and I have offered to pick up the poo, but what poo. We have cats all over the place. There are ginger ones, black ones, black & white ones, tortoiseshlle ones, tabby ones.

We have an air gun.

dionnelorraine · 03/04/2007 23:22

UCM - er, you do know that is agianst the law to shoot cas with an air gun. And god damn fucking cruel! I am a vet nurse and have seen the damage it can do! A cat is defenceless, try shooting someone your own size! You should be reported!
Discusting!!

ucm · 03/04/2007 23:35

Its only one of them ones which shoot plastic balls, calm down, not to hurt them but to find them, shoot them and tell them never to enter my house and piss again.
