This guy is playing piano in public to show his ex how much he 'loves' her.

Gorgosparta Your DH thought about you and your feeelings. This piano chap is only thinking of his feelings, and that's the difference.

Dont really follow. I was responding to a poster that asked if anyone could think of a gesture that was romantic and not controlling. That was my example of a gesture that is romantic and not controlling.

I agree this guy is creepy as fuck and its all all about him.

Films like "Say Anything" have a lot to answer for.

She should be easy to track down, what with the hair...

Keep an eye out for any towers in the Bristol area.

I was just thinking of that final scene of The Graduate - when Ben had made his Grand Gesture at the church and Elaine had run out of her wedding and they're sat at the back of the bus, but they don't seem to be able to meet each others eyes... Almost as if they're thinking 'shit, what've we done?'

Was this a movie actually taking The Grand Gesture to it's logical conclusion?

I'm probably reaching.

BoysofMelody · 10/09/2017 16:53

Ohgod

I hadn't seen that nuance and I'd watched the graduate loads of times, but you're right, the very last shot when after the excitement of running away, the uncertainty washes over their faces. I just watched it on YouTube and couldn't believe I'd seen it before.

There's an alternative cut that makes it

Is he still playing the piano? Has he done a 💩 yet?

Mittens1969 · 10/09/2017 23:21

I think it's more sad and pathetic than dangerous. He reminds me of a lot of people who end up on the Jeremy Kyle show. Or the Romeo character from the Dire Straits song 'Romeo and Juliet'.

I don't blame his ex for giving him the elbow, though.
