To say sod it and give them a chip butty for their tea?

My delightful DCs are at a bit of a fussy stage (2 &4). They are much keener on sandwiches and snacks than 'proper food'. Tonight they are supposed to be having pork casserole and baked potatoes with green beans and I know already that that it is going to be vetoed by at least one of them.

We've just been given 2 play sets, a sandwich one and a fish and chips one and they've spent all day making chip butties! WIBU to just make them the real thing for tea?

Do it!

It won't do any harm once in a while.

Phillipa12 · 07/09/2017 16:22

Add fishfingers and it will be perfect!

sourpatchkid · 07/09/2017 16:24

That sounds yummy, can I come round?

DramaAlpaca · 07/09/2017 16:24

They'll love it, do it.

NapQueen · 07/09/2017 16:24

Just do it. Life is too short. Dd (5) is a fusspot. Ds (2) eats anything. He had a fillet of salmon and fresh veg for lunch, dd has the dinner ladies wrapped around her finger and ate her only meal at school - jacket pot with butter.

For tea theyve got a plate each with :- ham sarnie, ready salted crisps, cucmber slices, a yoghurt pot and a cheese string.

I know dd wont entertain the chilli, so im leaving it til after their bedtime. Ds will have the leftovers for lunch tomorrow.

I wouldnt care but I did the whole BLW Bangwaggon with dd and spoon fed ds. I feel like raising a formal complaint on the weaning board for what was clearly a faulty promise. (Kidding)

Can I come round? Haven't had a chip butty for years! Grin

God I'm craving one now.

LouHotel · 07/09/2017 16:24

If your casserole will keep for another day then do it.

Maybe attempt the green beans. Ha

bullyingadvice2017 · 07/09/2017 16:26

Do it! We sometimes have fish finger buttys, or crisp buttys. Sometimes it's nice to just eat without the I don't want this noises!

VladmirsPoutine · 07/09/2017 16:27

Just do it. There's no need to make dinner times a war-ground. They'll be fine.

My niece spent her first 7 years on earth eating only tuna sandwiches and on the odd occasion when she wanted to 'experiment' went for a bit of cheese and boiled egg. She's now a very well put together 15 yr old.

FlopIsMyParentingGuru · 07/09/2017 16:28

Do it. It's a treat. They will love it and you'll have a relaxed tea and make happy memories. As long as it's part of a more balanced wider picture it's fine!

CalmanOnSpeeddial · 07/09/2017 16:29

Damn you! I now neeeed a chip butty. Last one I had was at Pete's Eats at the bottom of Snowdon

upperlimit · 07/09/2017 16:29

I love chip butties. I'm on a low carb diet

Eat one for me.

CalmanOnSpeeddial · 07/09/2017 16:32

I'm meant to be starting 5:2 diet next week, which is all very well but will never work if I remember the existence of chip butties on my non-fast days.

Antoniacaenis · 07/09/2017 16:33

Chips are in the oven, milk role is defrosting! I'm going to have one too. Thank you mumsnet conscience Grin

Omg chip butties....Envy that IS envy

EdmundCleverClogs · 07/09/2017 16:34

I'd do something similar for my 2 year old, but he seems to have put himself on the Atkins diet Hmm. Won't eat bread (unless toast), pasta or rice. Will nibble potatoes and vegetables. Was quite happy to eat a bit of granny's keema nan the other day though, which was a great help in trying to push through healthy, unsalted food agenda (even more Hmm). I give up, probably be fish fingers tonight....

MilkTwoSugarsThanks · 07/09/2017 16:36

I've got a lovely casserole for my daughter dinner - but now I want a chip butty instead Sad

Purplemac · 07/09/2017 16:37

Life's too short - a chip butty for their tea on occasion won't hurt them and they'll love it!

MilkTwoSugarsThanks · 07/09/2017 16:37

I have no idea how "daughter" got in there. I don't have a daughter!

Blondielongie · 07/09/2017 16:39

my 6 year old favorite meal is fish fingers and petit pois. He has it almost every night. Life's too short.

MycatsaPirate · 07/09/2017 16:50

We often have a chip butty and there is nothing nicer than the butter melting down your chin while you eat it!!

MrsJayy · 07/09/2017 16:52

PortiaCastis · 07/09/2017 16:53
