To say sod it and give them a chip butty for their tea?

My delightful DCs are at a bit of a fussy stage (2 &4). They are much keener on sandwiches and snacks than 'proper food'. Tonight they are supposed to be having pork casserole and baked potatoes with green beans and I know already that that it is going to be vetoed by at least one of them.

We've just been given 2 play sets, a sandwich one and a fish and chips one and they've spent all day making chip butties! WIBU to just make them the real thing for tea?

I am ill and not eating much but i could go a chip butty

Jaxhog · 07/09/2017 17:02

Don't worry! My little Bro lived on poached eggs on toast for most of his childhood (long story). He's now 50 and disgustingly healthy.

WindwardCircle · 07/09/2017 17:04

Can this be mumsnet, the site where I've seen it seriously suggested that children shouldn't have fruit in their lunch boxes because it has too much fruit in, condoning children having chip butties for tea?

.

WindwardCircle · 07/09/2017 17:05

Sugar, not fruit.

Abetes · 07/09/2017 17:07

Chip butties are the food of the Gods.

loveliesbleeding1 · 07/09/2017 17:11

Never thought I'd be jealous of 2 pre-schoolersEnvy.

My son is not a big meat eater and have spent many frustrating evenings trying to get him to eat things like stew, mince etc. In the end I gave up and give him what he will eat.

I was a terrible eater from 5 to 9 and lived on cocopops and tinned meatballs much to my mums distress. She had me at countless dr appointments and was told I would eat when I was hungry and just to give me a multivitamin and let me eat what I wanted.

Im now 31 and love food of all kinds and love trying new things etc

HaudYerWheeshtBawbag · 07/09/2017 17:12

You can't call that a chip butty OP, it's a sin to call that a chip butty Grin

Proper homemade chips, with thick white bread, dripping in butter with lashings of salt and vinegar is a real chip butty Envy

meddie · 07/09/2017 17:14

To be fair HaudYerWeeshtBawbag.. They are toddlers. I think thats a perfectly acceptable gateway butty onto the harder version you mention later in life....

BackInTheRoom · 07/09/2017 17:14

Hell yeah!

PinkHeart5913 · 07/09/2017 17:15

A chip butty now and then won't hurt.

My dc I am lucky with they haven't reached a fussy stage Yet but my friends little boy only really likes sandwiches and I look after him once a week and he normally has a sausage & egg sandwich or you can get away with fishcakes in a sandwich

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 07/09/2017 17:15

We've got the same plates as you, OP. Unbreakable. :)

Witchitywoo · 07/09/2017 17:18

I've given my DC cake and custard for tea when they were little. Nothing else, just cake and custard. And they're still underweight! (Obviously haven't inherited my fat genes) so I say give them what they want. It won't hurt

Fruitbat1980 · 07/09/2017 17:19

Last night my son had weetabix for dinner. I salute you!

upperlimit · 07/09/2017 17:19

I think it is a good idea to get them to at least try them on Haud's buttie Messie otherwise they won't know their limits and when they are left alone as teenagers they'll go wild and order it with a deep fried mars bar and, well, it's a sad day

mirime · 07/09/2017 17:26

DS has a toasted bagel with jam for lunch sometimes, and eats too many waffles and chicken dippers for my liking, but I never wanted to turn food into a battleground.

We had two major breakthroughs during the summer holidays - he's added pasta and ham to the list of foods he'll eat.

When he was first weaned he ate everything.

Have the chip butties.

HaudYerWheeshtBawbag · 07/09/2017 17:26

My kids always had real butties, they've never had oven chips we even added S&V.

Each to there own, nothing wrong with the occasional butty. Ds21 adds a fried egg to his.

upperlimit · 07/09/2017 17:29

Ds21 adds a fried egg to his.

Blasphemy

LancashireTea · 07/09/2017 17:29

Massively jealous.

Nutella on toast is all DD the Dictator will even consider tonight.

oldlaundbooth · 07/09/2017 17:29

Is that a dirty Oddies milk roll OP?

MrsJayy · 07/09/2017 17:38

Husband phoned chip buttie from the chippy no less on route Grin

Antoniacaenis · 07/09/2017 17:46

Now I am jealous mrsjay our pseudo DIY job didn't really cut it. Hmm maybe I need to call DH...

OP posts:
Antoniacaenis · 07/09/2017 17:50

If only oldlaud it's a Warburtons milk roll ( and kept in the freezer for dirty sandwiches when DH isn't here and the only bread in the bread bin is homemade wholemeal Wink). I used to get Oddies custard tarts at my Grandmas for a treat - are you in Lancashire by any chance?
