fucking duvet cover

I don't generally iron stuff, as I'm quite lazy. However, today just did a deep-clean of our bedroom and realised once I was finished that my creased bed linen was ruining the effect of the otherwise lovely clean room. Hmm I thought, maybe this once it would be worth making the effort to iron the duvet cover and pillow cases and enjoy at least a few hours of a beautiful neat room before it turns back into usual pit of despair.

Well, what a fucking waste of time that was.

It took SO LONG. King size duvet cover. I think it took me almost half an hour, is that normal? And then the complete pisser, it didn't really get out the creases!!!! I mean it looked better, I think, but it didn't look hotel-beautiful or like when my MIL does it. We have a decent iron (as far as I know, DH manages to make his shirts look nice). What went wrong? Do people actually do this on a regular basis, and if so are you the same people who wash your sheets like three times a week, and if so how do you ever get anything else done?! And how do you get the actual sodding creases out????

So as well as my questions above, AIBU to never iron a duvet cover again, as it doesn't work and no one needs to know or care about my wrinkly bed?

I never iron my bedding seems a waste just to get in it and crease it.
But if I did ever consider it I would do it the insane way they do it on obsessive compulsive cleaners. Put the bedding on the bed and then iron it within an inch of its life while it is on there.
Somehow I don't see it happening in my house though Grin

I have a friend who cleans holiday lets. She washed and irons about fifteen sets of bedding every week. I think you just need a bit of practice. Grin

hamsterdance · 07/09/2017 00:07

MsAdorabelle... not a chance, although I suppose I could maybe also make friends with someone who does holiday lets? I must have some skills I can trade in return.

Babyblues - I have never seen this show, but surely that must be for sheets not a duvet cover? Or do they iron the cover on the bed but before putting the duvet in it? Maybe I should start watching this programme...

*washes Blush

I couldn't do it either. I'm pretty sure I've never actually ironed a duvet cover in my entire life.

hamsterdance · 07/09/2017 00:11

I did watch some vintage Buffy while I ironed, so it wasn't a total waste of time I suppose. Plus, I'll know from now on I can ignore that nagging voice telling me to adult better by having freshly ironed sheets, because I know now that the voice is talking shit.

Iron it when its already on the bed!

bear28 · 07/09/2017 00:17

I iron our super king cover when it's already on the bed but turn the heat down. Usually changing the bed makes me almost cry it's such a challenge!!

HemanOrSheRa · 07/09/2017 00:17

We decorated our bedroom last year so I bought very expensive new bedding. I thought that now I am a grown up with a beautiful bedroom that doesn't look like a jumble sale has exploded in it, I must iron the bedding. I got about a quarter of the way through the kingsize duvet cover and wept in temper. It was so difficult Confused. Fuck that. Now I just do the pillowcases to show willing.

FriedEggs1 · 07/09/2017 00:18

Iron it when it's still damp

Babyblues14 · 07/09/2017 00:21

They iron the duvet cover while it is on the duvet. It baffles me but does look pristine

HemanOrSheRa · 07/09/2017 00:24

Doesn't ironing the cover when it's on the bed damage the duvet?

Hotheadwheresthecoldbath · 07/09/2017 00:24

My Creasy duvet covers lurk in that bottom of a cupboard and I use only the ones that don't crease.

Babyblues14 · 07/09/2017 00:25

I think they do it on the lowest setting Heman

nigelsbigface · 07/09/2017 00:25

My mum irons duvet covers with seemingly little effort. (All the more odd because the rest of her house is filthy Shock). I don't know How she achieves it but her beds are pristine.( I wish she would apply this effort to the rest of the house!)

jollyjester · 07/09/2017 00:28

Either tumble dry and iron it soon after or fold it up and iron when it's in quarters.

Or do as my mum does and put it in a trouser press!Grin

EatsFartsAndLeaves · 07/09/2017 00:29

Wash bedding, hang it up as soon as the machine is finished and make an effort to get it flat at that point, either on the line outside or on the big overhead airer thing in the kitchen. Doesn't need ironing if its been dried flat. Don't tumble dry. Have more than one set in case it doesn't dry in a day.

DrumrollCheese · 07/09/2017 00:32

I take in ironing.
Steam generator iron, fold it in half twice lengthways. Iron the panels. Takes me about 10 mins.

BenLui · 07/09/2017 00:34

Tumble dry the duvet cover and take it out and fold it very neatly when it is still warm and very slightly damp.

Iron it in quarters with a hot iron and steam, bearing down hard on the board. Finally unfold it by quarters and remove the fold creases.

Potato25 · 07/09/2017 00:35

I have never heard of ironing a duvet cover before

HemanOrSheRa · 07/09/2017 00:37

Ooh. I might live a little and give it a go when I next change the bedding Baby. It'll give an added frisson of fear to a task that makes me irrationally angry Grin. But if it melts my hideously expense wool duvet I shall sue C4.

storynanny · 07/09/2017 00:37

Its too hard to iron if it is pure cotton, easier if poly cotton.
I once threw away in a great rage a duvet cover used and washed once because It was absolutely impissible to get awful creases out.
Sanderson covers from bedeck never need ironing and still look great after years if use.

storynanny · 07/09/2017 00:39

Impossible not impissible ( keep hitting i instead of o, even missed a delivery today as apparently i had typed wrong postcode, i not o)

Fluffyears · 07/09/2017 00:41

When I was selling my last house I put on ew bedding and the creases looked terrible. I just ironed the bed and it looked like a hotel bed. Didn't use a low setting just kept iron moving.

JWrecks · 07/09/2017 00:43

I'm clearly a lazy slattern as I've never ironed a single sheet nor even pillow case in all my life, much less a duvet cover! Folding it and doing it in panels as @Drumroll said actually has me a bit curious, though. Sounds like it would work and be fairly easy.

SomeOtherFuckers · 07/09/2017 00:45

(I've never ironed anything in my life ... shhhh) BlushBlush
