fucking duvet cover

I don't generally iron stuff, as I'm quite lazy. However, today just did a deep-clean of our bedroom and realised once I was finished that my creased bed linen was ruining the effect of the otherwise lovely clean room. Hmm I thought, maybe this once it would be worth making the effort to iron the duvet cover and pillow cases and enjoy at least a few hours of a beautiful neat room before it turns back into usual pit of despair.

Well, what a fucking waste of time that was.

It took SO LONG. King size duvet cover. I think it took me almost half an hour, is that normal? And then the complete pisser, it didn't really get out the creases!!!! I mean it looked better, I think, but it didn't look hotel-beautiful or like when my MIL does it. We have a decent iron (as far as I know, DH manages to make his shirts look nice). What went wrong? Do people actually do this on a regular basis, and if so are you the same people who wash your sheets like three times a week, and if so how do you ever get anything else done?! And how do you get the actual sodding creases out????

So as well as my questions above, AIBU to never iron a duvet cover again, as it doesn't work and no one needs to know or care about my wrinkly bed?

I suppose it depends on the lay out of your house. I like to leave the door to the bedroom open and I don't want people looking at my unmade bed on their way to the loo. I don't t feel tidy unless it's made and it takes 2 minutes.

Ours is 600 tc. You are right Auntie it gets really creased. I'm still not convinced about ironing bedding though! I actually about to make our bed up (after some procrastination and EastEnders). I reckon I can get away with it Grin.

I Iron my bedding for the same reason I make my bed every day and keep the room tidy...

It makes me happy.

stardust18 · 07/09/2017 19:47

I quite like ironing my husbands shirts and my girls little dresses and even there bedding a cot bed duvet cover and a single bed duvet cover, but my king king size
NO WAY!! What a pain in the arse that is no thank you

I do a variation on Auntiedahlia's idea. Hang it at full length off the balcony and let gravity pull the creases out.
Also works for long curtains. Long sheer curtains get hung back up still wet with a bowl underneath.
Works a treat anything to avoid ironing.

I never iron duvet covers; what I DO do is to start by actually folding them (loosely, with the side that's been against your body inwards) BEFORE putting them into the washing machine. Don't overfill the drum and your cover will be - reasonably - uncreased when washed.
Now hang on line stretched flat (fold neatly in half if using a rotary dryer). Bingo - one cover that needs no ironing Grin

I once ironed the spare room duvet cover. Once. I now send them to the laundrette for PERFECT pressing. It's my one extravagant luxury in life and I only do it when I have guests, I don't bother with my own.

Ignore the poster that advised polycotton for ease of ironing; polycotton is offensively hideous

PollytheDolly · 07/09/2017 20:07

Iron it when its already on the bed!

I did that once and melted the duvet so the cover stuck to it.

Beerwench · 07/09/2017 20:08

Avoiding ironing duvet covers and pillow cases is exactly why I have a bed spread that goes over the whole lot! It was expensive but worth it's weight in gold, it's sort of silky feel and a little quilted and gets folded back to the bottom of the bed. No ironing, but tidy bed!
After working in a hotel and care homes and ironing a gazillion of the damned things, a large roller iron is the best at getting 'hotel' ironed bedding, either sprayed with water or slightly damp and then hung afterwards to dry completely.
Water spray or damp ironing (then hanging over a radiator) works with a domestic iron but is tedious for me.

PollytheDolly · 07/09/2017 20:11

I iron mine (not on the bed any more). It's not perfect but you can see there's been a bit of effort. Flat bits and folds as I iron, fold, iron, fold and only the top side. Pillows cases are immaculate though Grin

poisonedbypen · 07/09/2017 20:12

50/50 shouldn't really crease at all. Ours are 100% cotton & they crease like crazy (White Company). I've bought the kids 50/50 ones to take to uni.

custardcreamplease · 07/09/2017 20:44

It's a load of shite isn't it? I never iron, and this is why. Waste of my life

KnightsofCydonia70 · 07/09/2017 20:51

Iron it when its already on the bed!

This. I only ever iron mine when my MIL is coming to stay though.

YetAnotherNC2017 · 07/09/2017 21:20

I have a super king duvet.

I ironed it, once. Took 45 minutes and still looked fucking shit.

Haven't bothered since.
