So it's my birthday, and if I'm honest it's been pretty sh*t, no cards, gifts or plans with friends. Cuddles from the kids this morning before I walked them to school in the rain was my highlight. But then the happy birthday notifications on facebook start. The first few from friends on messenger which was nice but then throughout the day more notifications pop up to say so and so has posted on your wall, one or two are friends or old work colleagues, but the vast majority are people I barely know, that I happen to be facebook friends with as we have mutual friends, or work in the same area, or our oaths have crossed find other way, and a few I don't even recognise the names. I should be greatful that these people are thinking of me I guess. But they are not really, an app is telling them it's my birthday and asking them if they want to write on my wall, so they are complying, most of them probably have no clue who I am and each notification just serves to remind me about the lack of thought or effort on the part of those that should care. AIBU to wish that people who don't actually know me just didn't bother?
