To expect high schools to provide lockers?

My daughter starts year 7 on Thursday in her high school but they don't have lockers so my child had to carry her cost, PE bag, books and folders ect around with her all day. Am I being unreasonable to expect a Locket to be provided so she can at least store her coat? And other things ?

My work colleague lives in Cheshire and her son is at High School too, so it's not an English thing.

The main secondary school in Teignmouth in Devon used to be called a high school too but I think it's an academy now. I was told a high school in England was somewhere between a grammar school and a comprehensive, but I think the person who said that to me was making it up!

Anyway my year 10 ds has a locker this year and is very pleased about it as he's not had one since year 7.

Sorry I meant to say it's not an Scottish-only thing. Doh.

You had to pay for one when I was a school.

Morris I also spent 6 years at BHS...although my last (work) school was in another BHS catchment. It's a thing in Fife I think 😂😂

I was really pleased when DD1 eventually got a locker in Y7 as it meant she wasn't having to carry a bulky musical instrument, school bag and PE kit there and back each day. She usually walks and, being keen on joining lots of sports clubs, needs her PE stuff every day. The school is split across two sites too which means the students tend to keep their coats with them so being able to leave PE kit in a locker has been great.

I do wonder if schools that don't offer somewhere for PE kits to be securely stored, have fewer students taking part in extra-curricular sport when compared to those that do.

It's high school here in the north east. I don't know any called secondary.

We have 3 tier. First, middle and high school so it would be a bit odd to call the third school a secondary Grin

We had lockers! I don't know why they don't either tbh.

I went to a huge high school though and there was lots of dead space outside halls and in corridors, we were also told we could only access them in our time i.e. breaks and lunch or after school, and not during or on way to lessons. Shame for your child because I still remember now the excitement of having a locker. Think I lost my key about 3 days in though. Blush
