I'm absolutely shocked.

That includes food, nappies and wipes.

9-2pm I pay 9€ per day. Smile

DulliDulli · 04/09/2017 21:53

The nursery my DD goes to is £34 per day with all meals and snacks included but not nappies/wipes. North Manchester.

Racingraccoons · 04/09/2017 22:06

I pay £70 (including food) but not including nappies or wipes for an outstanding nursery....which to be honest, I find quite cheap.
I'm in the midlands.

cuckooplusone · 04/09/2017 22:20

I think it sounds very reasonable, I pay more in Hampshire for less time, plus I have to provide nappies and packed lunch (they provide tea and snacks). I can't believe how cheap the rates are elsewhere on this thread, it's such a range. It was £55/day 10 years ago when DD1 went! But then again, a modest 3 bed semi round here is about £500k so local cost of living is pretty high.

Xmasbaby11 · 05/09/2017 16:59

Ours is £50 a day including food. It's average. Cm is quite a bit cheaper but not as good availability.

Sukistjames · 05/09/2017 17:05

I pay £48 a day in the midlands. That includes food but not nappies.

londonrach · 05/09/2017 17:07

Its a couple of pounds more than im getting quoted. Shocking isnt it

singadream · 05/09/2017 17:27

In London that is pretty cheap

ifeellikechickentonight · 05/09/2017 17:32

£86 per day for the same hours here. That's a sure start nursery not even a private one.

Persephone70 · 05/09/2017 17:33

Wow! I paid £43 a day in 2004! I think you are getting a bargain 😊

Katherine2626 · 05/09/2017 17:35

My maths is shaky but that's around £6.25 an hour to look after your child and provide food, nappies and wipes, so the nursery get about £4.50 - £5.00 an hour net. Hardy a rip off, although of course if you are paying that every day then it is an eye watering weekly sum for you. I hope your job is well paid .

Craigie · 05/09/2017 17:37

Less than £6 an hour. Just how low do you value the people you entrust with your child every day?

NannyRed · 05/09/2017 17:40

It's around a fiver an hour. I think that's a bloody bargain, I wouldn't want to change someone else shitty nappy for that.

Shiraznowplease · 05/09/2017 17:52

Cheap I paid that five years ago, not in London or south east although nappies were provided. There were cheaper but think as with most things you pay for what you get. My dc loved it

goodeyebrows · 05/09/2017 17:55

I pay £54.50 for 8-6 not including nappies and wipes

BendydickCuminsnatch · 05/09/2017 17:58

DS is starting in the Surrey countryside, £45 for 8am-3:30 pm. So that sounds about right for round here I think!

SlaaartyBaaardFaaast · 05/09/2017 17:59

I used to pay £38 per day for 1 child 8 years ago in Wales.

Alasdair53 · 05/09/2017 18:02

You're talking 9.5 hours, that's about £6.50/hour. That seems very reasonable for good childcare. Many (possibly most) highly qualified nursery staff are dramatically underpaid. The nursery needs your money to pay for the staff and all the other things -like nappies and wipes and food and equipment and a cleaner and security systems and records systems and loads more so that every child can have the best possible early years' experience.

clarehhh · 05/09/2017 18:07

A bargain 10.5 hours at under £6 an hour for your precious darling, it is £10 an hour for a dog walker!

Decsbetterhalf · 05/09/2017 18:08

£90 a day in London so that's cheap!

PeppaPigTastesLikeBacon · 05/09/2017 18:09

That's what I pay in the south

LaurieMarlow · 05/09/2017 18:09

If it's London, it sounds downright cheap. When we lived there, there was a nursery below our apartment building that charged £100 a day.

WorldofTofuness · 05/09/2017 18:09

Depends where you are in the country really.

This and the age of the child are pretty crucial to the reckoning.

Mine is just under £560pm for an 8-6 day, 2 days a week, inner London. (The hourly rate is actually cheaper the more hours per dayso at 9-5 we seem to be providing a slight subsidy.) Under-2s more expensive to provide for, but not sure if they average the fees across everyone. Everything providedthey have a cloth nappy policy--so we just have to provide 'going home' nappies, which is fair enough. I'm sure I'll be shocked at the cost of the meal when it comes into the reckoning for free hours; but DD apparently scoffs masses of meaty and fishy stuff there which she tends to turn down at home, so on that basis alone I'm not inclined to quibble.

mindutopia · 05/09/2017 18:11

Where we live, which is fairly rurally (not London or another expensive area), we paid £45 plus extra for snacks/hot lunch (so works out to roughly £50 a day) and we brought our own nappies, wipes, other supplies as needed. This was for 9am-5pm. So for the extra 2.5 hours, which includes food, nappies and wipes, I'd say that's pretty reasonable. Our nursery was the cheapest we looked at. The big commercial ones were more than that. Not many do that sort of wraparound care with early mornings and late pick ups so I suspect you're paying for the convenience of having that available.

MarcyMercy · 05/09/2017 18:11

Sorry for butting in, I have no pre schoolers and don't need nursery, I am also outside UK now.

Can I ask if the amount you pay for this is subsidised by Government? In other words do the childcare workers only get 6 quid an hour (or less depending on area) for minding children for such a long day!!

I presume it is subsidised. Even so it is a lot of money to pay for having your children taken care of, especially if you have more than one..
