Fucking Cunting Trolls

In the past week, I have posted on threads about someone's 15 year old niece taking their own life and today somebody wanting to give their 4 year old son up for adoption. They both turned out to be trolls. I love Mumsnet, I really do and I have seen many situations where those in genuine need of support have been massively helped. I have PMed a Mumsnetter at 4am asking her to call me if she wanted to talk after she had been assaulted by her DP. She did and we subsequently met up.
I have had a huge amount of support myself from Mumsnet but I am getting really weary of it now.
I work in mental health and it's something I feel really passionate about which is why I was drawn to the threads I've mentioned.
I know that there isn't much anyone can do about it and I think MNHQ do their best as both these threads were taken down pretty quickly.
Just needed to rant Angry

Sorry to be thick but what is Reddit?

Was the thread about the poster whose friend was having an affair and dumped her DS on the OP, then transferred the small amount of £16k to the OPs bank account real? (About 2 days ago)

Here's another one picked up by the http://www.mirror.co.uk/lifestyle/family/mums-fury-childminder-who-sleep-11105113?ICID=FBmirrorr_main

I've seen the adoption troll before on here. Last time was quite recently - a few months.

I think the ones with the same story that post over and over are probably mentally ill and can't be helped. They are a bit like Marla Singer, aren't they.

But other trolls, honestly, the only way to get them to give up is to perfect the art of the invisible dogpile. (This will never ever happen on MN! Grin)

Sparklingbrook · 03/09/2017 21:12

Can you imagine if that was posted now Weebo, we would all be 'yeah right of course this is happening'.

It's the Internet. I am quite aged and cynical and have been on a few meet ups via MN and also via spring off FB groups over the years. I have met some lovely people. I have also met someone who was not who she purported to be at all. This "friendship " lasted a couple of years. I had no reason to doubt her but it all ended very badly. I read most stuff with the view that it's not true these days if it involves being horrendously skint or outlandish relationship threads played out on line etc.

Do you think that makes us wise or cynical?

Or both?

VeryCunningStunt · 03/09/2017 21:18

There is an obvious troll who has been posting about a fairly dramatic situation in her family and other unbelievable posts . She has about 6 or more threads, each involving an increasingly unbelievable scenario. I pointed out on one of the posts that her life was certainly dramatic

I know EXACTLY who you mean! Grin

CockacidalManiac · 03/09/2017 21:18

The reason trolling can't be reported is because of all the knicker twisting narrow minded twats who report anybody as a troll as soon as they beat their argument.

That escalated quickly.

Sparklingbrook · 03/09/2017 21:19

Just educated Weebo. Grin

Trolling can be reported then? Confused It's up to MNHQ what happens after that.

Demander · 03/09/2017 21:25

Yeah. What is Reddit?

Well that would be ok Demander if the majority of people were better at spotting them, obviously lots of posters arnt and it's unfair that they are taken in by them
Maybe I'm just not looking at this the same way as others but what harm does it do?

Demander · 03/09/2017 21:29

It's another forum

Is it a secret society? 😊

Is it a secret society?

It's like Hogwarts, only with people that are simultaneously trolls AND Troll hunters.

Sparklingbrook · 03/09/2017 21:32

Just Google it Demander.

MagicalRealist · 03/09/2017 21:33

I don't how anyone can summon the emotional energy it must take to create and maintain these elaborate narratives. It must be quite hard work.

PandorasXbox · 03/09/2017 21:35

Apparently Demander you're my sockie.

TooManyBigFatLies · 03/09/2017 21:40

I spend a lot of time on Mumsnet and have been a member for a good few yews. I believe that there has been a significant increase in the number of troll threads recently. I think a lot of genuine posters have been put off posting so the percentage of troll posts seems even worse.

It's really putting me off the site and I'm not sure that there is anything MNHQ can do about it. The trolls are winning Sad

PandorasXbox · 03/09/2017 21:41

I could say the same about those on Reddit who keep scouring MN then posting about what they've seen.

Very strange.
