Fucking Cunting Trolls

MsHooliesCardigan · 03/09/2017 18:42

In the past week, I have posted on threads about someone's 15 year old niece taking their own life and today somebody wanting to give their 4 year old son up for adoption. They both turned out to be trolls. I love Mumsnet, I really do and I have seen many situations where those in genuine need of support have been massively helped. I have PMed a Mumsnetter at 4am asking her to call me if she wanted to talk after she had been assaulted by her DP. She did and we subsequently met up.
I have had a huge amount of support myself from Mumsnet but I am getting really weary of it now.
I work in mental health and it's something I feel really passionate about which is why I was drawn to the threads I've mentioned.
I know that there isn't much anyone can do about it and I think MNHQ do their best as both these threads were taken down pretty quickly.
Just needed to rant Angry

I agree Cock. And personally I think it's someone who has a grudge with HQ.

How many times has it transpired that a troll thread is a PBP?

Fixmylife · 03/09/2017 19:32

Ah the irony, PandorasXbox is trollhunting! You might be kicked out and have to go to Reddit 😉

PandorasXbox · 03/09/2017 19:33

Do you know what troll hunting means Fixmylife? Doesn't look like it.

Gorgosparta · 03/09/2017 19:34

I go to reddit too.

Have been here 7 years. Not a troll. Never been accused. Never had mn ask me to clarify anything etc.

The reddit started because of the way mn were moderating. And the huge to do over the man who posted a go fund me link. That left several Mn'ers exposed.

Trolls have been around a lot bloody longer

PurpleDaisies · 03/09/2017 19:34

Really? There have been trolls like this for ages and on loads of different sites but you think it's someone trying to piss off MNHQ? Hmm

CockacidalManiac · 03/09/2017 19:37

I don't see why MNHQ would actually be that pissed off by trolling; juicy bullshit threads are catnip to the red tops and Mail.
It all leads to a new influx of posters, lots of lovely publicity and advertising revenue.
It's the posters on MN who get pissed off with trolls fucking about.

godconfusion · 03/09/2017 19:37

I just don't understand trolls who post so near to others experiences. How's that a kick?

There was one about a DD who died young and she had quite a following of support including genuinely bereaved posters who's DC actually died... for ages. I don't know how she slept at night tbh

SeaEagleFeather · 03/09/2017 19:37

I used to moderate boards elsewhere and it is incredible how a small minority of people hate being banned. I mean .. incredible. The years of on-off but real effort they went to to destroy those boards were astonishing.

Mumsnet is a piquant forum and some men hate it. Plus some people get their noses out of joint if someone says No to them, ie ban them.

It seems quite likely to me that a handful or three handfuls of people would deliberately target MNHQ ... that's even before the spoiled or sick people who feed off the emotional stuff through trolling.

Just don't give more of yourself than you're willing to lose.

Fixmylife · 03/09/2017 19:39

They are coming from somewhere.... they are coming from the inadequate moderation policy that does nothing to stop them running for months!

PandorasXbox · 03/09/2017 19:39

That's what I'm wondering Sea.

RonSwansonsMoustache · 03/09/2017 19:42

I think giving a total stranger your phone number isn't especially smart, to be honest. A thread having run for 5 months doesn't mean the OP isn't a troll or a safe person to give your mobile number to.

MN has always been full of trolls, but people get far too invested in words on a screen. Take everything with a pinch of salt - you're only seeing what people want you to hear. Nothing on here is going to be 100% accurate and I don't know why people seem to think it is.

Sparklingbrook · 03/09/2017 19:47

I can't understand why PBPs are so desperate to come back. If I was banned from here I wouldn't want to come back. Confused

It's best not to get so invested, it's just chat on the internet.

Gorgosparta · 03/09/2017 19:48

Of course they are coming from somewhere.

Its not going to be the same place. Or all the same person or coupke of people.

Its the internet. Trolling happens. Everywhere.

CockacidalManiac · 03/09/2017 19:52

People do get so over invested. For example, those bullshit neighbour/parking threads where posters invent names for all the participants in the story, each update from the OP develops the story a little more and is always satisfying. Pages upon pages of place-marking and 'any news, OP?'. Continuation threads.

Why do they do it? Can't be very well in the head can they?

Kimlek · 03/09/2017 19:58

healthyheart the one this am about the dilemma of reporting etc has disappeared but that maybe because she'd name changed then unfortunately used her mn name in an additional post. That thread actually sounded legit to me. Especially as she noticed she'd outed herself immediately but carried on anyway. Hope she decided to report.
tobeornottobe1 the adoption one was this evening and an entirely different thread to the 'reporting dilemma' thread healthyheart is talking about.

CockacidalManiac · 03/09/2017 20:00

People get their weird jollies for all kind of reasons; they might get sexual thrills by asking a mainly female site about sex, periods, knickers etc. The aforementioned MRAs too. Then there's the people that just want attention, and any attention will do.

godconfusion · 03/09/2017 20:01

Have to say though I would love to be able to make up one stupid enough that the DM/sun printed it but was obviously untrue enough not to upset MNers.

A revenge April fools type thread

Anyone else ever feel that way?

Ones just been and gone in relationships

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 03/09/2017 20:04

I sat sobbing about the 15 year old girl, and I mean shaking sobbing.
How anyone can lie about something so emotive is incomprehensible, especially. When there are people out there who have actually been through such a tragedy.

Changeschangechangeagain · 03/09/2017 20:05

One of the fake threads that was deleted this week really worried me. I had been affected by similar experiences as a child. It triggered painful memories and I found it hard to stop thinking of the child involved.

The thread got deleted but I still kept thinking about the fake child.

Why make up a fake OP??

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 03/09/2017 20:06

Why do they do it? Can't be very well in the head can they

I don't agree, why do they have to be mentally ill,why can't they just be attention seeking shit stirrers?

endehors · 03/09/2017 20:07

I haven't noticed that there are many more trolls and goady feckers than usual.
Agree Dixie. It's also ridiculous that there are known trolls and known troll threads, quite why they're allowed to stand, and continue...
