Bloody tesco

Maplestaple · 03/09/2017 18:02

Delivery was due today but it's been returned to the shop and put back. Money will be back in DH's account in 3-5 days.

How can they get away with that? On a fucking Sunday too. Will have to find and borrow money to get us through.

Never again.

I'm bloody starving and so are the DC and we've got nothing.

I hate Tesco.

'Just get a few tins of baked beans and a few half cooked baguettes, and a block of cheese. Freeze the baguettes and the cheese, great in an emergency and doesn't cost much.'

Again, MarcyMercy, did you read the op?

The op doesn't have any money. With what should she buy the above? Buttons?

As for 'truth hurts' - I'm not hurt, I'm fortunate enough to have full cupboards and shop when I want. I'm still able to empathize. Yet you claim to have been there and all you can do is pick...

LooksBetterWithAFilter · 03/09/2017 19:15

Try calling your bank. It takes a few days for the card payment to process and completely leave your account. The bank can't stop the payment exactly but they can drop it back in to your account although they will tell you that if Tesco finish processing the payment the money will leave your account.
Alternatively the bank can give you the transaction number and you can contact Tesco and give this to them and request they stop the payment and don't continue processing it.

MarcyMercy · 03/09/2017 19:16

Buy the emergency stash in a previous or current delivery. Have it on hand in case of emergency. A couple of pounds will provide a meal.

I have been there as I said.

It is easy to do. No way would I have NOTHING at all in the house to eat.

I think the question to be asked here is why OP has no money and DH cannot or will not help out with lack of food. Red flag for me, but I don't know the full story.

Emergency stash, running away money, food in the cupboard. Basic stuff really.

Notreallyarsed · 03/09/2017 19:25

Really? I'm better off now than I used to be, but I fully remember struggling week to week and going hungry because I couldn't afford to feed DS1 and myself properly. There are people starving in modern day Britain because people cannot comprehend the realities that many people are facing. It is far from unusual where I live for people to live payday to payday, we were doing it until recently.

MarcyMercy · 03/09/2017 19:32

Notreallyarsed.

I just made the point that a couple of tins of baked beans and a few baguettes as an emergency would be fine.

I also went through tough times, and I now know how to avoid the empty cubpoard/fridge thing forever more. Doesn't have to cost very much really.

Anyway. How come DH could not go down the local shop and buy a few bits to keep them all from starving?

Seems to me the OP is reliant on DH card for food. Fair enough the delivery went wrong, but surely he would have stepped in and bought a few frozen pizzas and a carton of milk or something.

Sounds very odd to me to have absolutely nothing to eat in the house, yet DH is the one with the card that could solve the problem in a moment.

4691IrradiatedHaggis · 03/09/2017 19:37

Seems to me the OP is reliant on DH card for food.

Eh?? Have I missed something, where do you get that from?! Confused
How come OP says Tesco have taken the money out of her account, they've failed to deliver but not given her her money back, and it's all her fault and a red flag DH? Hmm Grin
Honestly, only on MN.
You seriously can't see that someone can do their shopping the day or so before payday with what they have left in their account and not have a stash of running away and emergency money left?
Lucky you with your reserve cash, but not everyone has that.

MarcyMercy · 03/09/2017 19:38

DH paid for the delivery according to op.

OP has no funds at all, and absolutely nothing in the house for food.

RED FLAGS. maybe.

MarcyMercy · 03/09/2017 19:40

From OP...

Delivery was due today but it's been returned to the shop and put back. Money will be back in DH's account in 3-5 days.

RedBlu · 03/09/2017 19:45

Your tesco has an odd set up.

My DP works for Tesco as a driver, they take payment on the morning of delivery and the only times they would not deliver and return it to the shop floor is if the money couldn't be taken.

If there was a reason they couldn't deliver, it would be sent out on the next drop or the next day.

I know when drivers have been sick, short staffed etc even the managers will go out to ensure deliveries are made.

Why didn't they offer you another delivery slot today or tomorrow?

Cruciatus · 03/09/2017 19:50

I ordered from M&S (asked for delivery to my local shop) then had a family crisis (involving hospital) and couldn't collect the delivery in the allocated 4/5 days. They sent it back and it took SIX WEEKS for the money to be refunded to my account. Despite many phone calls and emails. I will never order from M&S again.

3/5 days is shit but not the worst!

OhtoblazeswithElvira · 03/09/2017 19:58

Our Tesco also takes the money after you sign for delivery. If I refuse any products from the delivery (for example, short-dated stuff) they are refunded on the day.

I have been using Tesco weekly for almost 15 years and never had a delivery cancelled . You have been very unlucky OP, I hope you get to the bottom of it and hopefully Tesco can refund you faster.

ChocolateWombat · 03/09/2017 20:03

I don't feel we are quite getting the full story here.

There were 4 phone calls? Why?
What exactly was said in each call by both the OP and by Tesco?
I find it hard to believe that no compensation/vouchers/big sucking up apologies were offered or very early delivery next day?
Did the conversation on the phone descend into a slanging match or argument, resulting in Tesco person becoming less helpful or hanging up?
Did Op say that they had no food in house?
Is it possible there was an issue in taking the money or they are black listed due to previous issues?

I would email them tonight saying you are very disappointed, without money and without food and require an immediate call in the morning and a delivery of your order. Be polite but firm.

Follow up by ringing in the morning and insisitininsist on speaking to a manager. Be clear that you are without money or food and Tesco have caused this. Ask how they are going to ensure your family can eat, when they have taken your money, preventing you from shopping elsewhere.

Or has the relationship with Tesco broken down and a comment about you being rude/aggressive likely to be logged on your account?

Regardless of the answers to all these questions, I hope you get some food.

Can you phone a friend for a couple of cans of beans of slices of bread? If not, you sound totally isolated and if you are without cash you are in a very vulnerable position and this kind of thing could happen again. Is could be a bigger issue than Tesco has failed to deliver an order.

RudeDog · 03/09/2017 20:04

Social media is your friend here - complain on there (and get mumsnetters to like your post)

I don't see why it's not being resent out tomorrow though!

MarcyMercy · 03/09/2017 20:05

Tesco will refund the DH you mean.

Seems his card paid for it, and no food at all in the OP house after delivery cancelled.

Despicable situation. I cannot understand why OP did not ask DH to buy food somewhere else for them all.

Or have I missed something important.

yumyumpizza · 03/09/2017 20:09

I had this. Delivery booked for evening didn't arrive. Couldn't get a satisfactory answer til the next morning when they said they'd be short staff so just cancelled it!!

That was about 3 years ago, I'd never order from them for delivery ever again. No one I spoke to gave a fig, they made me feel unreasonable for querying where the food I'd paid for was (took payment before the delivery time) Angry

Maplestaple.

You were short with the facts you have just mentioned. And therefore it is inevitable that posters will say things.

You did mention in your op that you had NO FOOD, nothing.

Now there is a different story.

By all means rant about Tesco, but you gave out information aswell.

Anyway, glad you have means to feed your folk now that it is all solved. Apart from the Tesco delivery. I would not use them again, but you know that anyway.

1981trouble · 03/09/2017 20:45

Op check Ocado for delivery dates - around us I can order now and have it delivered first thing tomorrow most days and you can pay by PayPal so it would be mid week before it leaves your account

ItsNachoCheese · 03/09/2017 20:46

When i get my tesco deliveries the money is taken once its delivered

Maplestaple · 03/09/2017 20:47

But it was nothing to do with anything. It was a rant about Tesco and the shit service.

I shouldn't have to explain why we are skint for a day. Actually if I'd checked my savings account properly I'd have seen that we aren't actually skint Blush

Anyhoo kebab is on the way and the kids had dominos earlier so all is well apart from Tesco are still shit!

OP posts:
Maplestaple · 03/09/2017 20:48

I wonder why it is different with some Tesco deliveries, makes more sense to charge once it's been delivered. Saves all the drama and inconvenience that way.

Maplestaple,

I meant no harm. But you know what this place is like!

Only going on info supplied. As we all do. Such is mn..

Enjoy the grub.

Slightlyperturbedowlagain · 03/09/2017 20:59

We had this with Tesco last week when we were on holiday. I don't normally use them but they are the major supermarket in the area we were staying. They claimed first they would be late and then a bit later left a message that the delivery had to be cancelled as the van had broken down, and told me to phone to rearrange delivery. I'd missed the original call due to rubbish phone reception where we were staying. I tried for an hour and couldn't get through. Ok these things happen but what annoyed me was that my account showed the order as 'delivered'. I didn't want to waste more of our holiday so I sent an annoyed email which took them 48hrs to answer and it said they would refund the money in 3-5 days. So they had the money for potentially 7 days before refund. Never again. Luckily we were able to afford to buy food elsewhere anyway, but DH & I agreed there would be many who would find that a problem and it shouldn't happen.

PixieBigShoes · 03/09/2017 21:06

The van broke down once when I was due a delivery. Turned out he was only round the corner so I went to collect. I think I took the driver a sandwich and a cup of tea!

TitaniasCloset · 03/09/2017 21:09

Oh please stop posting Marcy you are winding me up. Currently at a friends house having dinner because I'm broke and have gone through the last of my food. She has given me bits from her cupboard and next week when I get paid I will help her out. Many people are in the same situation.
