Delivery was due today but it's been returned to the shop and put back. Money will be back in DH's account in 3-5 days.

How can they get away with that? On a fucking Sunday too. Will have to find and borrow money to get us through.

Never again.

I'm bloody starving and so are the DC and we've got nothing.

I hate Tesco.

I have read quite a few people this has happened to in the last few weeks. If you look on Tesco Facebook page you will see a lot of people with the same problem. Can't you demand another delivery first thing tonorrow ?

rjay123 · 03/09/2017 18:26

www.tesco.com/help/contact/

Give them a call. Open until 10pm tonight

AlmostAJillSandwich · 03/09/2017 18:27

1st said driver in hospital, 4th said that was a lie? How have you ended up talking to 4 different people?

maras2 · 03/09/2017 18:28

pleaseleave
My Tesco takes money anything up to 5 days after delivery.
God knows why.
Bloody shoddy treatment though OP.
Hope you manage to borrow enough to tide you over.

Maplestaple · 03/09/2017 18:28

Didn't realise but I had twitter. I've tweeted. No idea if it's right though.

The 3 days thing is a system security issue which is why it's the same for the vast majority of organisations.

When this happened with us, our local store topped up a gift card free of charge and we shopped in store instead (though this was before the refund was issued)

Have you tried calling the actual store and asking to speak to the service desk? The individual store will have a vested interest in keeping your custom, particularly if you're a regular.

Maplestaple · 03/09/2017 18:32

Because I rang 3 times almostAJill

I use Tesco home delivery once sometimes twice a week and no money leaves my account until after it's been successfully delivered (once I've signed for it and taken the goods)?!
It can however show on your account as a "pending transaction" which you can cancel.
Or for some reason if they have taken it before delivery just call your bank and tell them it's a fraudulent transaction as you didn't receive the goods and they can get it back in your account very quickly

Flymetothemoon1234 · 03/09/2017 18:36

I had a similar situation with Asda. Delivery didn't happen and they charged me 'in error'. Apparently they normally only make the charge after delivery is made to avoid this problem. Took 3-5 days to process a refund. Meanwhile they kindly delivered my shopping the next day instead but I had to pay again (despite still not being refunded). I actually think they should be reported to some sort of trading authority about this. Banks process payments instantly so this 3-5 days delay is totally unnecessary. And to top it off they offered me a voucher to apologise but the voucher never arrived. Arseholes!

MarcyMercy · 03/09/2017 18:38

Sorry this has happened to you.

But having NOTHING to eat is a bit silly.

Eggs, baked beans, bread, cheese, anything?

PinguForPresident · 03/09/2017 18:42

I've had the same happen a few weeks ago. Utter fuckers. I complained and they gave me a whopping £10 back.

Fluffycloudland77 · 03/09/2017 18:44

Email their CEO, detail everything & see what they come up with as compo.

coolaschmoola · 03/09/2017 18:44

'having nothing to eat is a bit silly...'

SILLY?!?!?!

People who struggle to make ends meet in a country where even workers regularly need food banks is not 'silly' - it's a bloody travesty!

Just because you may not have been in that situation doesn't mean it isn't a reality for others.

'Silly'?? Yes, you are. Hmm

ShitOrBust · 03/09/2017 18:44

Twitter that shit. That'll put a fire under them.

Augustwashout · 03/09/2017 18:48

how bizarre! I was told a few weeks ago a late delivery ie 9 pm would be about three hours late by Ocado.

I was in constant contact with brilliant chat on line person who kept me up to date and when I said midnight was too late Grin they told me not to worry and a new diver was brought in to help the one behind and I got sent 20 voucher for my troubles. Got it about 11pm in the end but they did everything they could to keep me informed and to keep me happy. Always I feel when things go wrong is exactly when you get a feel for the mettle of a company

MarcyMercy · 03/09/2017 18:48

It is very silly not to have any food in the house at all.

If a person is relying on a delivery service that can be erratic, surely a family can put something by for an emergency like this.

But I don't mind you having a go at the sensible thing to do.

I was not referring to those who need food banks. That is tragic and very different to OP.

Maplestaple · 03/09/2017 18:49

How Is it silly? I was expecting a weeks shop to be delivered. We've been using up all the cupboard and freezer stuff over the last few weeks so I can re stock and eat healthier.

Plus we've had an expensive few weeks with several hundred on uniforms and car repairs.

LuLuuuuuuu · 03/09/2017 18:50

ODFO with your "having nothing to eat is a bit silly" .

Loads have NOTHING in .. I have had Mondays where I've had to go without so my DCs can eat

Not everyone lives a fucking food full life !

LuLuuuuuuu · 03/09/2017 18:51

Well said Coolas

Maplestaple · 03/09/2017 18:52

It's payday for the month tomorrow so it's not like we are broke for long.

That's not the point anyway. The point is Tesco are shit.

OP posts:
Marble2302 · 03/09/2017 18:55

Everyone is ranting about how they are twats for keeping the money... it's the banking process that holds the money up same for all retailers.

SimplyNigella · 03/09/2017 18:55

Ocado have a great system of authorising £0.01 on your card and not taking full payment until after your order is delivered to avoid this. Sorry this has happened to you OP.

MarcyMercy · 03/09/2017 19:00

Just get a few tins of baked beans and a few half cooked baguettes, and a block of cheese. Freeze the baguettes and the cheese, great in an emergency and doesn't cost much.

Believe me, I was that person. Still am, will always have something in like that, even if it is cheap frozen pizza whatever.

Perhaps that is why I am a bit annoyed at those having absolutely no food in the house at all. Sorry if I offended anyone. But the truth hurts sometimes.

coolaschmoola · 03/09/2017 19:02

'...surely a family can put something by for an emergency like this.'

No, not 'surely'. Not everyone can do that.

'But I don't mind you having a go at the sensible thing to do.'

Oh don't be so smug. Yes it's 'sensible' - but knowing that, and having the money to actually do it, are two VERY different things. There are plenty of people who don't.

'I was not referring to those who need food banks. That is tragic and very different to OP.'

Did you read the op? The poster has NO food and NO money. Not sure how that is 'very different' from other working people forced to use food banks.

You sound ridiculously out of touch.
