To 'ground' DH because of Broadchurch?

We live in the US and only use streaming for watching TV, and I know that we're WAY behind the curve here, but ...

Started watching Broadchurch last weekend. I love a good whodunnit, and Broadchurch is making me all nostalgic for dear old Blighty.

We've got 2 episodes of season 1 left & I'm hooked. It's a 3 day weekend here and I reckoned that DH and I could watch them both tonight with a bottle of wine. Perfect.

Then he tells me that friends have invited him over to theirs to play a collaborative computer game thingy that they do every so often.

AIBU to ground him and NOT let him out to play because I can't wait until Monday night to watch the last 2 episodes?

NB - Don't any of you DARE to give me any spoilers!!!
(and this is, btw, light-fucking-hearted).

If he is going to be so unreasonable and actually go, I'd watch without him and give him the spoilers when he gets home 😀

vlooby · 03/09/2017 14:37

Sod it! Watch it on your own and get some good food in too! :)

ElephantsYeah · 03/09/2017 14:37

Watch it by yourself. With popcorn, chocolate and ice cream.

jelliebelly · 03/09/2017 14:38

Watch it by yourself - his choice!

Butterymuffin · 03/09/2017 14:38

Tell him he can go if he wants but you'll be watching the last two episodes by yourself then.

Plainlycrackers · 03/09/2017 14:39

Nah let him go and watch it on your own... 2 benefits...more wine for you and the joy of tormenting him all the next day with threats of spoilers Grin cackles evilly

KickAssAngel · 03/09/2017 14:40

I did tell him I'd watch it by myself, and he did say "OK" but then he'll want to watch it on Mon night, and I'll want to start on Season 2.

I should just watch it, tell him who it was and say, "suck it up, Buttercup", right?

(Don't bother with Season Two, it's shit).

KickAssAngel · 03/09/2017 14:43

Actually, he's out playing golf right now. I could watch it now and not even wait until this evening. I wanted to stay up last night to finish the series (2 am bedtime if we'd done that) but he had to get up early for golf so was sensible!

In case it's relevant: he turns 50 on Wednesday, so this is meant to be 'his' weekend of treats (we don't do many presents). I can over-rule the birthday weekend fun just to get my own way on this, can't I?

mirren3 · 03/09/2017 14:44

Definitely watch it yourself, promise not to mention how it ends and then casually drop in to conversation you can't believe it was "x" and "y" happened.... You're welcome 😉

KickAssAngel · 03/09/2017 14:46

I'm REALLY good at not giving away spoilers, I could never claim it was an accident. He'd know.

OP posts:
EnidButton · 03/09/2017 14:52

Watch it. The longer you leave it, there's more at risk of spoilers.

You can't over-rule the Birthday Weekend rule. Especially when it's a big one. So just stay up late tonight and watch them whilst he's out. Just because he has his priorities wrong, doesn't mean you can't get yours straight. Grin

TidyDancer · 03/09/2017 14:54

Watch it on your own, I couldn't wait. I binged watched the entire series in one day as I didn't see it when it was on tv.

Series 2 isn't as good but it's definitely worth watching. Series 3 is brilliant.

I'm not going to spoil anything for you OP, but do you have any theories?

PoppyPopcorn · 03/09/2017 14:55

Watch it and tell whodunnit.

Agree season 2 isn't great but season 3 was much better.

mirren3 · 03/09/2017 15:04

Oh oh, and then start watching Luther from the beginning if you haven't already seen it, and Line of Duty. They are both excellent, especially Adrian Dunbar as Ted in LoD.

toldmywrath · 03/09/2017 15:07

Broadchurch Season one is the best. Wish I could watch again without knowing what I know. I love a good whodunnit!

Watch it by yourself, your DH's choice to go and play with his friends.

StatueInTheSky · 03/09/2017 15:11

just watch it and then watch again with him but give fake spoilers....a good nudge and a head nod when someone gets in a car, or makes a cup of tea. "ooooh this bit....very significant!" and then suck your breath in at some totally irrelevant comment.
Go "ahhhh- hhhhhaaaaaaaaaaaaaa" as if something just fell into place at nothing in particular.

Mess with his mind!

KurriKurri · 03/09/2017 15:15

Collaberative computer game ? - how is that featuring in his choices? Forget his birthday - it's wednesday not all week Grin

Watch it without him, drink all the wine, give false spoilers (eg 'the baby did it') then clap your hand to your mouth and say 'Oh my God - sorry - I've ruined it for you, what a pity you had to play a "collaberative computer game thingy" instead of watching it with me. Never mind there's always season two.'
(which is a bit crap btw, but season 3 picks up again)

KickAssAngel · 03/09/2017 15:37

you're all evil, and not helping my resolve.

But, yeah, I think I will watch it while he's out. DD (unlike me) couldn't hold water. If she just happens to be around while I watch, and just happens to let something slip, it would totally not be my fault.

We don't have Season 3 on Netflix here. Might be worth waiting until that's here, then do 2 & 3 together. The lure of season 3 might be enough to get us through 2.

GabsAlot · 03/09/2017 15:46

watch it i got it but loads never saw it coming

sod him!

Allthebestnamesareused · 03/09/2017 16:05

Season 2 is sort of connected to series one but 3 is more standalone so don't wait to do 2 & 3 together

EnidButton · 03/09/2017 17:02

This thread is proper risky btw. You're a braver woman than me. Grin One tiny hint might be all it takes.

KickAssAngel · 03/09/2017 19:27

So - he's home from golf and IS going out tonight. I've bought champagne and made him do the laundry as his penance.
