To think I am not fucking 'older'?

I've just spoken to a nurse on the phone about some medication.

She asked if I could be pregnant. But what she said is, technically you're still of an age so is there any chance you are pregnant? I said no, god no, and laughed.

She said 'hah yes that's what most of my older patients say!'

I AM THIRTY SEVEN!!!

Is this it for me? Am I a shrivelled, dried up old hag rather than the young, vital gorgeous creature I am in my head? I thought I'd have at least a few more years of being 'younger'.

It's bad enough that all the doctors, teachers and police officers round here are teenagers. And now this.

Rage, rage against the dying of the light.

Apparently I was a geriatric primigravida at 33, back in 1999. The doctor who used the term was a newly qualified locum who looked about 12!

I had dd when I was 37 through ivf and I knew I was on the older side and time was ticking for ivf to work. This wasn't the first attempt. It stings to be told you're older though, doesn't it?

When i was 38, my GP had a chat with me about "contraception choices for older women" Shock

A 37 year old has been able to get pregnant for more than twenty years but maybe only has 10 years left to get pregnant... so I'd say that that is "older" for getting pregnant. She didn't call you old. Although, tbf, what the fuck is wrong with being old? If we didn't have these prejudices about age it wouldn't be an issue. Especially about women. I'm surprised people would even complain to the poor woman.

I'm 34 when people talk about kids I laugh till my sides hurt because I Am Done With That Shit. I do feel too old and have 0 inclination. Obviously people can get pregnant much older and feel up to it but I know a lot of women my age who just can't be arsed at this point.

I think what she'd observed was women who felt their baby-raising days were over and didn't fancy going back to it. I had mine at 38 and 41. By 44 I couldn't face any of that shit either but if I'd had my first at 41 I might have felt differently.

She might have mistaken that for being older (in pregnancy terms) but I think she's just plain wrong.

Btw I had to have consultant-led treatment too, despite having no complications. Seems ridiculous now. Average age of childbirth where I live also 38.

I think I'd have had a gentle word. Something like "haha older? I'm only 37 hoho. But seriously, that makes me laugh (sort of) but some women might be offended by that, it's not something I'd say. By the way, it's possible to get pregnant up to menopause which is xxx."
