Not to want to see Christmas stuff in the shops at the beginning of September??

We had a look around The Range this morning and I was surprised to see that they were setting up their Christmas displays

Surely they can hang off until at least October....

And I love Christmas but please let me enjoy the Indian summer we have been promised yet again

I agree I'm fed up off Xmas by December coz everything is up to early.
I can't believe people are Xmas shopping already too!!

I'm trying to sort out the presents now and book things etc - only 3 more paydays and all that.
But I'm not ready for decorations yet. I'm out in the sun today feeling like it's summer.

However.. I work in retail and my Christmas things are all out. We do offers throughout September and give away free gifts etc and it goes down well every year.

Also, everything in retail is planned well in advance - I've already placed orders for my spring/summer items! So the companies send out the Christmas things early to make room in their warehouses, and I have to get it straight out, as I'm a little shop and have no room to store everything.

It's not ideal but it drives me mad when people come in and complain - I'm sorry but it happens every year! If the shops didn't sell stuff so early it wouldn't go out but we do

The main downside for me is that by the time I come to getting my own Christmas things out at home (late Nov/early Dec) I'm sick of the sight of it! I make DH put the tree up as I've already decorated 3 or 4 by that time.

Goldolddays I feel for you! I couldn't imagine working in that environment! Do people actually buy Christmas stuff in September?

I'm already done with Xmas projects at my work. We are currently working on Valentine's Day! It takes the shine off things tbh as I get bored with occasions by the time they come round.

It's the same every year. I'm always surprised that people are taken by surprise

Almost as annoying as those people who say in September oh I've bought and wrapped every gift already.

I love Xmas but it's only September ffs! It really spoils the whole 'once a year' thing when it's on your face for months.
I want to see Halloween stuff first please. Need more severed limbs for this year's outside decorations 😀

There were Christmas puddings in Sainsburys this morning.......

I have a shop which is tourist based and have been selling Christmas stuff for over a month. It's one of my best sellers. By October my income will have dropped down to pretty much zero so there would be no point bringing it out then.

Yep @HellYeh we sell lots! Candles, gift sets, jewellery etc. I have some people who come in September for my offers and that's their finishing off 😮 mad I know. I do sometimes feel inspired when it first goes out but then I'm rarely that organised (although I keep reminding myself that the one year I was organised and had everything bought and wrapped by November was the best Christmas we've ever had)

Christmas should happen in December only.

I do feel sorry for people who have to deal with it beforehand - hospitality, retail etc.

Buying a few things early to help spread the cost is fine (and I bought something yesterday because I saw it and knew it would be a good present) but keep it quiet.

I love Christmas but think it should be confined to December. If it starts too early then everyone is already Christmased out by the start of advent.

You can ignore it.

I don't drink alcohol or eat meat/fish/chicken but the supermarkets are full of it 52 weeks of the year.

I just bypass it.....

I saw it in Debenhams yesterday, they are selling xmas cards etc for 70%off

Last Oct half term we went to Tenerife.....they had full on Christmas trees, Christmas lights, 20' Father Christmas ornaments in the shopping arcades.

I admit it did seem wrong to be in that heat looking at a bauble but , ok.

I work in retail and so far we've got tins of chocolate and mince pies. I can ignore it but wish I had a pound for every customer that says "ooh you've started early". I really want to say " I hadn't noticed", but obviously have to keep smiling and agreeing.

It's exactly the same as people not wanting to see Christmas threads in AIBU before Advent Sunday.

The last couple of years that MN tradition was really well observed. This year already looks like it's going to be the nadir.
