Feel like canceling friends tonight because of 2 massive zits

I'm meant to be having dinner tonight with a couple of friends. I've been really looking forward to it but I have the most awful two spots on my face right next to each other in a place I don't normally get them.
They're red with white heads, sore and angry.
I feel so self conscious about them it's making me not want to go!
They are good friends but they have great skin and are generally about 20x more attractive than me anyway, I don't feel we can have a laugh about it really. Sad

And I haven't tried yet but I'm pretty sure makeup will make them look worse as they're so raised....

Isn't there something about toothpaste taking the redness out? Or aspirin? I guess mashed up and watered down to make a paste? Worth a try?

cheesydoesit · 01/09/2017 19:31

I would put a warm washcloth over them for a few minutes and then gently squeeze them.

Iloveanimals · 01/09/2017 19:31

I understand but at the same time it seems a shame to cancel over them. Make up might help a lot...maybe try and see?

FizzyFeet · 01/09/2017 19:31

Don't cancel your friends! They won't care (and probably won't notice).

Try an ice cube to take the redness and swelling down. And a tiny dab of ibuprofen gel if you have any, but watch closely for flaking.

derektheladyhamster · 01/09/2017 19:31

Would you care if they had 2 huge spots?
I do know how you feel, but I suffer from acne anyway, so I don't think my friends would even notice!
If you feel up to it, text them and tell them and ask their advice. I bet they'd like to see you, and there won"t be a huge elephant in the room when you meet up

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 01/09/2017 19:32

Squeeze them as pp said then cover with make up and go out!

chancerprancer · 01/09/2017 19:32

I think with half an hour to go I'm reluctant to try fiddling with them as it could make them worse (if that's even possible). I know it seems trivial and I just need to have a word with myself but it's tough when they are SO awful! Normally I'd agree that they look worse to the person than others but these two beauties are really something special. They'll probably put my friends off their food!

Cover them with a plaster and say you've had 'a procedure'

Passmethecrisps · 01/09/2017 19:34

If they were really good friends I would take a picture and send it along with a caption about having room for two extra guests. I do understand you being self-conscious as you are not prone to them but don't let them spoil a potentially good night

Pibplob · 01/09/2017 19:34

Tonight put some toothpaste on them and in the morning they will probably be gone or at least on their way out. I know it doesn't help with tonight but a tip for the future.

chancerprancer · 01/09/2017 19:34

I'll try the ice cube as they really are quite sore. Never had much success with squeezing before and bleeding ones are worse imo. I'll cover as best I can then just try to drink wine and forget about them I guess.

flutterby12 · 01/09/2017 19:34

Squeeze than put some concealer on!

flutterby12 · 01/09/2017 19:35

*then

Passmethecrisps · 01/09/2017 19:35

do you have savlon? That takes the swelling and redness away.

Summergarden · 01/09/2017 19:35

Aw, they will be far more obvious to you than to others.
But try to choose a table with low level lighting and sit in the darkest spot. Evening is the best time to go out with spots at least. I can sympathise as a fellow sufferer.

chancerprancer · 01/09/2017 19:35

I am very prone to them unfortunately but not usually in this place (between mouth and nose) and not often this bad and 2 together.

Theorchard · 01/09/2017 19:36

Warm wash cloth and gentle popping with a sterilised needle will take them down.

Passmethecrisps · 01/09/2017 19:37

Oh sorry, I misread. I'll bet the pain is making you feel like they are much bigger than they are. I hate spots on my cheeks as I feel they look so much worse than the t-zone. That is on me though. I would never notice beyond a cursory glance on anyone else

WineIsMyMainVice · 01/09/2017 19:42

If your friends are truly good friends they won't mind and will make you feel better about them and yourself! Go and have a good evening. You'll probably regret it if you don't.

tangledup123 · 01/09/2017 19:48

Don't squeeze them! Not when you have to leave soon. If I squeeze/pick mine they go all leaky for ages afterwards and any concealer/foundation I put on just slides straight off. Leave them alone and cover with make-up, it will be fine.

SwedishEdith · 01/09/2017 19:49

Perfume will dry them out. Put it on a cotton wool pad.

chancerprancer · 02/09/2017 07:29

Thank you everyone, I went and had a nice time. Makeup made me feel a bit better. Whoever mentioned ibuprofen - thank you - I didn't have gel but took some oral ibuprofen after putting ice on which I think made them less red & inflamed and because they weren't sore I wasn't so aware. I never would have thought of that! My period arrived today so I guess that explains them! I need to go back to doc about my skin really but don't want to go beck on Diannette which is the only thing that's ever helped (apart from low carbing which also really helps but is so damn hard to do long term!)
