To ask how long it will take to die if we do get nuked

Just this really. How quick? I know the warning, if there is one, will only be a few minutes so nowhere near enough time to get to school and be with DC. But when the bombs hit, is it just a flash of light and then oblivion? Or a longer scarier process? Obviously I hope none of this will actually happen.

But what's the point of a warning if we do t know what to do? If I got a text saying you're going to be bombed in about 10 minutes I wouldn't know what to do so it would be pointless knowing. Have to add I'm not actually thinking any of this is going to happen but I find it interesting to think what would happen if...

The joke in the 80s went ...

When you hear the warning ...

  • Stand up straight.
  • Bend your legs, and put your kness apart
  • rest your elbows on your knees
  • put your head between your legs
  • and kiss your arse goodbye
MagicalRealist · 03/09/2017 12:29

nancy75 I guess you could say goodbye to loved ones if they were nearby (phone networks will be shut down, apparently). Or you could say some prayers if you're religious?

I'd rather not know anything about it and would rather be obliterated instantly but it looks as though that's actually an unlikely scenario.

I think from an individual point of view it would be better to die straight away but for the long-term survival of the human race it would be better if some people made it through

I have this hilarious image of 85% of Britain googling 'How to survive a nuclear holocaust' when the warning alarm goes off.

Bit like with the EU referendum results day searching but with more urgency.

I have access to a boat. If I heard the warning, I'd grab my family and animals and head for the boat then go out to sea. I'd start heading north and hope for the best.
