To wonder why people go on Four in a Bed

If you haven't seen it, it's basically this:

Several b&b owners stay in each others' b&bs, rate each one and pay what they think the night's stay and breakfast is worth.

Every contestant, without fail, becomes extremely upset and offended when their establishment is criticised. There are tears every single time.

It's completely understandable why they get so upset and it's actually quite painful to watch.

Why do they put themselves through it when the winner doesn't even get a great prize? All they win is a crappy plaque!

Millieja did you watch it yesterday by any chance Grin
It was very good!

Halsall · 27/08/2017 09:28

My mother enjoys watching this, so I often see it when I visit her - usually with a face like this Shock throughout.

They are obsessed with sausages. At some point during every breakfast, you can guarantee someone will start chuntering on about them. Then the hosts have to defend the sourcing of their sausages and it all gets very nasty. Hilarious but bizarre.

Millieja · 27/08/2017 09:33

kali I watched bits of it! And that one woman got so upset! I thought, why have you put yourself through this?

And Halsall yes! They are completely obsessed with sausages, they were going on about them last night as usual. You definitely can't get away with serving cheap sausages!

I quite like this program too. It's the general weirdness of it, you know the fact they go looking for dust in all the strange places, and let personality clashes influence their judging decisions.

There is some shockers on there, where you think " fuck me, you probably shouldn't be showing that place on tv" and then there is some lovely ones.

The entertainment bit they should kill, everyone knows they aren't out there doing that crap with their guests. You also don't see other guests or the place running normally, so I think usually they shut down for the program.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 27/08/2017 09:44

I know someone who went on it and then ended up presenting a Channel5 programme assisting wannabe B&B owners. Lovely lady though

She was great and I used to watch that seriesSmile

Floralnomad · 27/08/2017 10:03

The only one where I've seen other guests still using the place is when they went to the dance hotel in Bournemouth , but that was a proper hotel and they just separated the programme people off at breakfast and gave them their own buffet selection .

ArseholesOnToast · 27/08/2017 10:16

I loved the b&b Channel five programme and I remember the lady (Lisa?) on FIAB too.

Does anyone remember the espisode the woman who ran a donkey sanctuary and b&b in Wales? She was obnoxious throughout.

FiveGoMadInDorset · 27/08/2017 10:22

My friend was on it when she had a B&B, took another friend on as she is single, other friend broke the bed in on of the B&B's. She got marked down as she did continental not cooked although she does do cooked if ordered when booking. As you can't see expach others websites the other owners didn't know it. They have all kept in touch and visit each other.

We have had the generic email asking us to go on, every two months or so but we no longer do B8b

Costacoffeeplease · 27/08/2017 10:36

My favourite recently was the father and daughter - he wore a top hat all the time and obviously thought he was a real 'character'

He ordered two kinds of egg at every breakfast, to check their egg poaching skills, then when they hosted last, everyone ordered poached eggs to get him back - and he threw a complete wobbly, saying to his daughter, you know I can't poach bloody eggs. He then went to the other contestants and said 'anything other than fried is off the menu' it was hilarious to watch

Floralnomad · 27/08/2017 10:49

I remember the donkey sanctuary woman , she was really awful and thought she would win because she had a hot tub , and we all know a hot tub makes up for shit rooms . I watched it on a repeat and looked it up on internet and was amazed to find that it's adults only when surely the target market for people wanting to stay at a donkey sanctuary is families .

Spangles1963 · 27/08/2017 13:11

I love this programme as it's completely batshit! I must admit that I'm a bit Hmm about the extremely thorough way in which a lot of the guests check the rooms for cleanliness. I mean, does it really matter if there is a speck the size of a full stop in the toilet bowl? Or a minuscule piece of fluff on the dressing table? Do they really actually care,or is it just 'stirring' to cause trouble?

kali110 · 27/08/2017 14:22

Millieja it was hilarious! She marked people down on the smallest little mark and then got upset when some of her rooms had stained pillows, dusty carpets and an old sock!
She said she something like she didn't clean them like a surgical theatre Confused she really couldnt understand why she was marked down! Ithink the other people were being very fair ( and generous)

DieSchottin93 · 27/08/2017 15:13

I found the Facebook page - its called The 'Four In A Bed' Fan Club, has about 2k members Smile

DM records it and we watch it in the evenings together Grin I always feel sorry for the more "alternative" places, like glamping sites and the like, I feel like they're not really given a fair chance against the other places.

Also the couples who dish out loads of (often unwarranted) criticism but can never take it when they get any really annoy me! Does make for an interesting payment day though Grin

Moanyoldcow · 27/08/2017 15:35

Oh Coffee - the poached eggs - I love how every fucker is a poaching expert on this show.

The payment is what drives me mad. I think something like giving guests a low, average and high price for the area and ask them to pay what they think. When you know how much the room is you can just be a cunt underpay regardless.

Floellabumbags · 27/08/2017 15:43

It's nutso but I love it. I love shit TV like FIAB, Homes Under The Hammer and Come Dine with Me and

Frenchlady14 · 27/08/2017 15:47

Oh yes, the head-shaking; tutting; sadness and complete disgust over a slightly under/overdone poached egg. They get so wounded and take it so personally. A poached egg ffs !!!

EvilDoctorBallerinaDuck · 27/08/2017 21:50

What about the sausage like a severed finger? 😂

paulapantsdown · 28/08/2017 17:06

there is always the pube hunt that results in a close up pointing at the pube shot

HemanOrSheRa · 28/08/2017 17:10

I bloody love Four In A Bed. It's on More 4 right now. We've just had the first Hair Hunt Grin. One of my very favourite things to do of a weekend afternoon is binge watching FIAB and Come Dine With Me on More 4/4 Seven. Love it!

Walnutwhiplash · 28/08/2017 17:53

I've seen a few on four in a bed that have also been on the hotel inspector
The naked man with the microwave dinners was on both!
In one episode there was a very casual B&B run by a very laid-back lady (one of the rooms was accessed by a ladder) and in another episode there was a vair posh castle-type B&B run by a vair posh lady - I'm convinced they're the same personGrin

kali110 · 28/08/2017 18:07

HemanOrSheRa
Me too. I really want pancakes now Grin

HemanOrSheRa · 28/08/2017 18:16

I'm actually watching on More4+1 kali. I want to smack that Martin bloke with the fake bronze statue Grin. And £500+ to cook your own breakfast whilst lecturing everyone else about their business plans/costs etc. Mwahahaha! It's hilarious!

grecian100 · 28/08/2017 19:24

Does anyone remember the one who had a pub style B & B who they claimed was modern and up to date but it had stripey wallpaper which is a side issue but she said at breakfast that you had to have a full english or nothing? She got really upset when someone said no tomatoes and went off crying into the kitchen and her husband came out and started clapping saying "you've really upset her now....well done" Hmm That was the one where a couple brought their own oatmeal and rye bread to every breakfast.

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 28/08/2017 19:27

The Bloke on that show who won went to prison for weapons violations. His B + B was in Braintree. Think he still owns it.

youhavetobekidding · 28/08/2017 19:30

I enjoy the show, but too many of them "play the game" by complaining about the tiniest thing and giving all the others low scores
