To wonder why people go on Four in a Bed

If you haven't seen it, it's basically this:

Several b&b owners stay in each others' b&bs, rate each one and pay what they think the night's stay and breakfast is worth.

Every contestant, without fail, becomes extremely upset and offended when their establishment is criticised. There are tears every single time.

It's completely understandable why they get so upset and it's actually quite painful to watch.

Why do they put themselves through it when the winner doesn't even get a great prize? All they win is a crappy plaque!

The most Jeremy Kyle episode was the chap from the stag party place in Cornwall ( Newquay I think) , he got arrested after kicking off at dinner on someone else's night . The ones that are most unfair are when they have 3 normal B&Bs and a camping place .

IndianaMoleWoman · 26/08/2017 20:55

Also I find the "entertainment" segment completely bizarre. Who goes clay pigeon shooting/glass blowing/surfing with the owner of a B&B?!

Millieja · 26/08/2017 20:55

Yeah the camping places! They all get marked down for lack of facilities Confused

Did the Cornwall guy not paint the tiles in the shower and it washed off as soon as the shower was switched on?

AssignedPerfectAtBirth · 26/08/2017 20:59

I love it. It's my secret shitty TV programme. Better than Big brother and all other impersonators on the nature of human beings

VelvetSpoon · 26/08/2017 21:00

I'm always shocked at how expensive some are. I'd never pay more than £80 a night for a B&B, however nice it was. I've seen ones on there that were £150-250, the other week I saw one that was £400 Shock We paid that to stay in the Shard. I certainly wouldn't spend that kind of money on a B&B.

Millieja · 26/08/2017 21:01

Incidentally, what differentiates a hotel from a B&B?

It's been shown here in Sweden. Two a day Monday to Friday. I love it, especially when they are best friends until someone finds a short and curly and then its all over.

Behindthedoor · 26/08/2017 21:02

The bad feelings fester all week and come to the boil on payment day, which is the only episode I watch - I love a good row me.

FiveStarService · 26/08/2017 21:07

There was the weird guy who lived on a boat and had a toilet fetish. I didn't really understand what he meant until he went to the first property and washed his hands and face in the toilet Shock

LottieDoubtie · 26/08/2017 21:07

If I watch a whole weeks worth I'm usually ill and then the showdown one at the end I always regret watching the ones before, all you need really is the last one so much is recapped 😃

ClashCityRocker · 26/08/2017 21:07

I do get mildly outraged at preordered breakfasts though.

Sparklingbrook · 26/08/2017 21:09

I don't understand why they pitch such wildly differing B&Bs against each other. It's hardly a level playing field.

They should lump them together by star rating.

There's always one idiot on it though. Breakfast is always tense with them ordering something not on the menu and it not being right. Hmm

Plus the falseness of when they first arrive, trying to guess what the place will be like as if they hadn't had a good Google before they went.

FiveStarService · 26/08/2017 21:09

what differentiates a hotel from a B&B?

More bedrooms and facilities(Hotel has restaurantand bar etc). The cost is usually higher in a Hotel.

WipsGlitter · 26/08/2017 21:10

It's great. Like someone up thread said there's always a couple who are bonkers.

I saw one with a dad and stepdaughter once. They were horrible.

doowapwap · 26/08/2017 21:10

I have found my people!! Love FIAB. My husband just doesn't get it.

I remember the Newquay guy - we go to Newquay often and we would drive past it and I'd always point it out (to a very uninterested DH).

It really winds me up on payment day when there's always that one couple that knock off £10 for a bit of dust. Some are total game players. One I caught the end off the other day, they knocked off £40 of someone's price!

Sparklingbrook · 26/08/2017 21:11

Did anyone see the one where Charlotte Church's Mum was on it. Cringe.

OnlyRose · 26/08/2017 21:11

It's one of my favourite programmes! I used to work with a bloke whose relatives were on it once, way back when it was Three in a Bed. They got marked down by their competitors because they didn't do breakfast, just left out cereal and croissants etc for people to help themselves. Sounded OK to me!

WindyWednesday · 26/08/2017 21:15

I love it. Usually forget to watch it. Know someone who was on it and she was hilarious on it.

lilbaby · 26/08/2017 21:16

My 11 year old dd loves this programme. She gets completely irate at the nitpickers and loves to see them get their comeuppance in the final day. She also talks to the tv the whole time it is on. I watch it just to watch her reaction very time.

LazyDailyMailJournos · 26/08/2017 21:17

Breakfast is always where it kicks off. Did anyone else see the utterly bonkers one where the woman had CCTV cameras rigged up all over her dining room, so that she could watch the guests from the kitchen and know when to bring in food and when to clear? She genuinely couldn't understand why the others were uncomfortable with finding a camera lens next to the branflakes...

SkylarFalls · 26/08/2017 21:22

OOooo I love FIAB!

I know several small business owners who are always looking for the next marketing trick/quick fix! So much so that they neglect the basics and then wonder why their regulars are leaving… I could see them being up for it!

I have stayed in one of the places that's been on the show - with it's arsey new owner who made all the staff quit: he ran the place down during his time there. He came across as an arse on the show

viques · 26/08/2017 21:29

FIAB is wonderful TV. I can never get over how spotlessly clean by my standards even the ones with hairs on the bed are. clearly I am not cut out for landlady status. I am afraid I do fist punching in the air if the snotty couple who I have hated from day one lose to the cosy couple they slated for having outdated decor, which happens surprisingly often.........

The last B and B I stayed in would never have won on tasteful decor grounds, though it was very clean and the landlady was so sweet. The room was so laden with extra goodies ( fresh fruit, home made cake,a bottle of water, sweeties,a carton of juice etc etc) that I don't see how she made any profit at all. and her breakfasts were magic.....

Floralnomad · 26/08/2017 21:36

Totally agree about Charlotte Church's parents , very cringy . Another classic was the snooty woman from Cheshire who was writing a book on running a B&B , spent all week criticising and then when they got to hers it had filthy pillows , dirty towels in the bottom of a drawer and a dirty sock under one of the beds . In the morning she made such a hash of breakfast that one of the others got up and cooked it for her.

Millieja · 26/08/2017 21:37

Floral that was the one on tonight!
