It's a lovely wedding celebration outside on a hot day. How much harm could it do?

I'm on the fence and you can talk me out of it if it's really a bad idea!

Even if the risk is minimal, there is risk

No, there isn't.

But if you want to avoid risks, don't eat butter while pregnant. Or fruit. Or bagged salad. Or ice cream. Or many other things, all of which have proveably harmed a developing embryo or foetus, which is not something you can say about one beer.

GahBuggerit · 26/08/2017 17:17

Quite clear that that video is aimed at those who do have a problem with alcohol so not really relevant.

IHaveBrilloHair · 26/08/2017 17:18

I would, and did.

Forheavenssake · 26/08/2017 17:20

Hmmm I think being the development stages probably not a good idea.
My sister was 16 weeks when she found out she had been out drinking and even went to Alton towers!!
And also my mum drank every night whilst pregnant (shock)! And I was premature by a month!
I had a shandy at a birthday doo once whilst pregnant but was almost due.
It's entirely up to you, everyone is different I suppose I'm sure midwives use to tell expectant mothers to drink Guinness to boost iron levels lol!
Have a nice time don't worry about it to much. A shandy should be ok

sparechange · 26/08/2017 17:21

OP, I wouldn't say it's 50/50

Anyone with a moderate understanding of science, statistics or risk is happy to have the occasional drink

Anyone who likes clutching pearls and shrieking 'won't someone think of the children' will tell you it's awful
And their opinions shouldn't get equal weighting to science IMHO

Armadillostoes · 26/08/2017 17:21

I really wouldn't. Why take any risk for something so unnecessary?

RebornSlippy · 26/08/2017 17:22

Jesus, what is wrong with you people? Midwife's advice, abstain. But, please, just do whatever you want. It's completely your choice and it's your baby.

Watch the video I posted by the way. I once thought like you. I changed my mind.

RebornSlippy · 26/08/2017 17:22

@Gah, and you 'clearly' haven't watched the whole video. It's longer than it took you to post.

alltouchedout · 26/08/2017 17:23

I would.
Later in pregnancy with ds2 I really really wanted beer and had to buy the alcohol free ones which I still felt odd drinking!

sparechange · 26/08/2017 17:23

armadillo
So you also think OP should avoid being in a car, walking on a pavement, having sex, eating chicken?
Because they all have risk

Nancy91 · 26/08/2017 17:24

I would have one. I don't think there is any risk from one small one.

GahBuggerit · 26/08/2017 17:24

Tbf op is technically risking her life for something unnecessary........a small beer seems reasonable to me Grin

GahBuggerit · 26/08/2017 17:28

So? I saw a bit and read the overview. I'm not going to watch a 20-odd minute video am I? Pretty easy to deduce who it's target audience are.

ememem84 · 26/08/2017 17:29

armadillo I was told by my midwife to essentially carry on with life as normal. I've continued to exercise 4 times a week, have eaten pretty much what I want - I have avoided shellfish but have had salmon tuna etc and haven't had rare steak but only because I love it rare and to me any other way of cooking it is a complete waste.

I was still riding up until 30 weeks. Again I wouldn't have taken it up once I knew I was pregnant but I've been doing it for years my body is used to it and I'm aware of the risks. I limited jumping once the bump showed for example - too dangerous as you have to physically shift your weight forwards.

I've listened to what my body wants.

I did also discover that the coop sells on alcoholic g&t in a can and found some lovely zero alcohol fruity beers in France which we bought a plenty (grapefruit, orange and pineapple flavour. Mmm).

Good point. GrinGrin

Women must be controlled. End of story.

By midwives, by articles in the press, by men, by anyone.

A small drink now and then won't do any harm at all. But then again WOMEN cannot be trusted to just have a small drink so are brainwashed into abstinence.

Shakes fekkin head.

kaytee87 · 26/08/2017 17:31

A small beer won't do any harm.

I didn't because I was so sick for the first 3 months then by the time the sickness subsided I had heartburn and didn't fancy a drink anymore

Flyinggeese · 26/08/2017 17:31

I would but of it's going to cause you angst or guilt then don't as it just wouldn't be worth it.

GahBuggerit · 26/08/2017 17:32

Rebel those were the words, more or less, from my consultants and 2 X MW lips Grin

RebornSlippy · 26/08/2017 17:33

Well @Gah, if you're not willing to educate yourself by watching a video that specifically deals with low level alcohol consumption in pregnancy using the most up to date evidence, with respect, I would suggest you do not advise others.

grandOlejukeofYork · 26/08/2017 17:34

I really wouldn't. Why take any risk for something so unnecessary?

Because there is no risk.

Jesus, what is wrong with you people?

We have this affliction called logic, and the wanton application of facts to decision making.

kaytee87 · 26/08/2017 17:34

Just remembered at my 8 week appointment which was not long before Christmas my midwife told me to enjoy a glass of bubbly if I wanted one at Christmas.

YellowFlower201 · 26/08/2017 17:37

You're fine. Enjoy

sparechange · 26/08/2017 17:38

Here you go... these are all the peer reviewed studies which concluded that there is no harm from occasional light drinking during pregnancy.

Your move.

rebornslippy that video is produced by nofas-U.K. I wouldn't say they're an organisation without the potential for bias.

This is who they are for anyone taken directly to the video link without explanation of who it was made by...
NOFAS-UK (The National Organisation for Foetal* Alcohol Syndrome-UK) is dedicated to supporting people affected by Foetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD) and their families and communities.
