To think that in the age of the sugar tax, WHSmith should not be trying to trick-sell chocolate

I've just had another chocolate-pushimg encounter at WHSmith and am struck that once a nice polite shop is now actively pushing highcalory low food value items to EVERY SINGLE CUSTOMER. Surely this is against the idea of the sugar tax.
Weren't WHSmith the M&S of stationery at one time?

in that both WHSmith and M&S are over priced, poorly staffed, outdated, losing customers, tragically trailing modern competitors. etc etc?

the sugar tax doesn't exist yet? at least 2018 according to the chancellor...

Not to be too facetious but really? if you don't like it, don't bloody shop there!

Bumdishcloths · 25/08/2017 20:01

If this is genuinely the most you have to worry about, good for you.

YABU. And WH Smith is the last refuge of the damned.

KingJoffreysRestingCuntface · 25/08/2017 20:03

Just don't go in there again.

It used to be quite nice, I bought all of my Sweet Valley High and Point Horror books in there. And they used to have really cool stationary.

Now it's just a cluttered newsagent with a rank carpet.

QueenMortificado · 25/08/2017 20:04

How are they "tricking selling" it to you? They ask if you want to buy it > you say no thanks.

I see no trickery or witchcraft there

AnneLovesGilbert · 25/08/2017 20:05

I avoid Smiths wherever possible and when I do have to go in one I find a "no thank you" does the job just fine.

MrsJayy · 25/08/2017 20:07

It isn't trickery they are asking if you want some oh no thank you its all about personal responsibility.

Migraleve · 25/08/2017 20:10

So far I have managed to avoid buying chocolate in WHSmiths. Perhaps I am a witch or similar and this is how I have superpowers to avoid their tricks

MrsJayy · 25/08/2017 20:10

And there is no sugar tax yet and when there is the wh smith chocolate wil be that bit dearer but they will still try and flog it.

MrsJayy · 25/08/2017 20:12

Maybe they have started hiding waffer-thin chocolate in between the pages of the magazines and charging you extra for it at the tills.

Fluffypinkpyjamas · 25/08/2017 20:19

how are they tricking you? are they pretending it is an apple?

Grin That made me cackle out loud like a witch
