The wearing of sunglasses.
Takeaway coffee.
Parenting your children in an enthusiastic manner.

Have all recently been decried (by a significant number of posters) on MN as actions undertaken PURELY to 'impress' other people, or to look cool...

Do people REALLY think that sunglasses/coffee/enthusiastic parenting are done for attention... ? Or is it just a bit of summer holiday/silly season boredom kicking in, and people fancy a scrap?

Can't work out if people are on the wind up, or genuine.

I'm 'guilty' of all three - am I to be cast out of Mumsnet forthwith?!

Apols for the TAAT X3!

I honestly feel that all this talk of performance parenting is, to a large extent, social envy. It's a lower middle class thing to complain about. Sad

Did anyone see me with my flat white to go and massive sunglasses, while I chatted to DS in the buggy about David Hockney, whilst wandering around a certain small art gallery in northern England today?

I was absolutely not thinking of you all as I sauntered around giving zero fucks about what other people thought... but when I got home I thought I'd better check if I'd given anyone hives ... Wink

Sunglasses perched atop my head, so as not to spoil my "museum eyes", and could give DS the benefit of all my opinions on contemporary British art, without sullying with a UV filter

There's so much sneering that goes on in society nowadays. Like anyone moderately confident or having a good time is to be pulled down and scorned. Personally I think it says more about the person judging than the target.

I love playing with the kids and we are loud sometimes. Do I give a stuff about what a random stranger thinks - nah. As long as the kids are happy I couldn't give a monkey's.

Plus I wear sunnies, sometimes on my head helps with a bad hair day so I guess I'm another one for public stoning.

Not sure it's a class thing though. But honestly stop caring it's very liberating Grin
